Spain and Sweden played out a goalless draw in their first 2020 UEFA European Championship Group E fixture in Seville on Monday.
Alvaro Morata and Marcus Berg were guilty of missing key chances for either side at Estadio de la Cartuja, but there was no breakthrough to be had.
While Luis Enrique's Spaniards dominated the ball, there was little end product and Robin Olsen was alert to deny Dani Olmo when the hosts did create something clear.
Alexander Isak, who plies his trade in Spain with Real Sociedad, impressed for the Swedes and did brilliantly to set Berg up for a bad miss.
Like Morata for Spain, he was unable to find the back of the net and the Scandinavians pulled off an otherwise impressive defensive effort to silence La Roja.
Next up for the Spanish will be a desperate Poland while Sweden can now concentrate on a Slovakia outfit that they will feel they can beat.
After the first round of games, the Slovaks have a surprise lead with the Poles bringing up the rear as Robert Lewandowski's international tournament woes continue.
