Here's more about the Champions League draw.

What teams are left in the Champions League?

Twelve teams are left standing in the competition, which has been halted since March due to the coronavirus pandemic. However, that list will be cut to eight teams after the remaining Round of 16 second legs are completed on Aug. 7-8. Here's a look at where things stand in those Round of 16 games:

  • Bayern Munich vs. Chelsea (Bayern won first leg, 3-0)
  • Barcelona vs. Napoli (First leg was a draw, 1-1)
  • Lyon vs. Juventus (Lyon won first leg, 1-0)
  • Manchester City vs. Real Madrid (Manchester City won first leg, 2-1)

And here are the four teams that have already qualified for the quarterfinals:

  • Paris Saint-Germain
  • Atletico Madrid
  • RB Leipzig
  • Atalanta

Liverpool, the reigning UCL champion, is notably absent from the list. The Premier League-winning Reds were bounced from the competition by Atletico Madrid on the final day of games before the league shut down in March. Tottenham, the Champions League runner-up in 2019, also crashed out in the Round of 16 at the hands of RB Leipzig.

When does the Champions League return?

The competition is back in less than a month when the remaining Round of 16 second legs are played. The quarterfinals begin shortly after that. The quarterfinals and semifinal will both be single-leg ties this season due to the unique circumstances, and the final three rounds (quarterfinals, semifinals, final) will all be played in Lisbon, Portugal.

Here are the key dates:

  • Aug. 7-8: Round of 16 second legs
  • Aug. 12-15: Quarterfinals
  • Aug. 18-19: Semifinals
  • Aug. 23: Final (at Estádio da Luz)
