Storylines

Washington Spirit: Rose Lavelle and Ashley Hatch led the way on opening night for the Spirit, as they both scored goals to give the team a win over Chicago. The team injury report has no new additions from the previous starting eleven. Andi Sullivan was key component to the Spirit midfield on Saturday and she will be a player to watch as she will be tasked with trying to disrupt North Carolina's midfield core.

North Carolina Courage: The Courage continued their dominance on opening day with a 2-1 win over Portland Thorns FC. The goals came later in the game for the Courage, from Debinha and Lynn Williams. North Carolina's injury report now includes 2020 draft pick Ally Watt, who suffered an ACL tear in her rookie debut. Look for Brazilian international Debinha to have another impactful game against Washington.

Game prediction

Washington Spirit came to compete this tournament, but experience and viciousness will have North Carolina Courage on top, 3-1.
