Rumor: Atletico Madrid's David Villa close to signing with NYCFC
Spanish striker David Villa may be close to signing with NYC FC of the MLS, according to a Spanish radio station.
Spanish striker David Villa, 32, could be close to signing with New York City FC of the MLS, according to a report from Spanish radio station Cadena COPE.
The station reported that Villa was expected to sign a three-year-deal with the franchise, set to begin MLS play in 2015. NYC FC, primarily owned by Manchester City of the Premier League and the New York Yankees, will play its home games next season at Yankee Stadium.
A striker for Atletico Madrid, Villa’s coming off a season where he netted 13 goals for his club. He was also named to Vicente Del Bosque’s squad for this summer’s World Cup, where his attacking will be even more crucial given the injury news to Spanish striker Diego Costa.
