WATCH: Chicago Fire fans chant 'U.S. Reject' to Landon Donovan

While the U.S. men’s national team was facing Turkey in its second pre-World Cup friendly on Sunday, Landon Donovan, who was unceremoniously left off the roster late last month, was on the road with his LA Galaxy teammates taking on the Chicago Fire.

Donovan was taking a Galaxy corner kick when he was greeted by a group of Chicago fans chanting, “U.S. reject,” over and over.

Chicago fans are harsh, but that’s just moronic. Donovan is the all-time leading scorer in national team history, and depending on the perspective (in this case mine), probably deserved to be included with the final 23. Sure, Jurgen Klinsmann opted for youth, but soccer powers Germany and Portugal could very conceivably embarrass the U.S. in group play, and with experience lacking, one has to wonder whether Donovan's cut rankled some of the team's veterans. Should the U.S. struggle to create chances in the attacking third, it’s almost a foregone conclusion that a major storyline will revolve around Klinsmann’s bold omission.

Either way, Dono deserves better than this.
