Serena Williams made quick work of a tough draw in the first round of the U.S. Open. It was more of the same for her in the second round.

Williams defeated fellow American Vania King in straight sets on Thursday night, 6-3, 6-3, to move into the third round of the tournament.

The win was Williams' 306th Grand Slam singles victory, which ties with Martina Navratilova for the most for any woman in history.

The 34-year-old is seeking her 23rd career major title, which would set a new Open era record. She's currently tied with Steffi Graf atop the list.

Williams was in control throughout her match against King, who has never gotten past the third round of a Grand Slam in singles. She and her partner Yaroslava Shvedova won both the Wimbledon and the U.S. Open doubles tournaments in 2010.

The world No. 1 also had the support of two of her most famous fans, Beyonce and Jay-Z, who looked on from the stands.

Despite battling a shoulder injury, Williams took home her seventh Wimbledon singles title in July to tie Graf's career Grand Slam record. Williams is coming off a third-round loss at the 2016 Rio Olympics, and entered the U.S. Open having played only three matches since Wimbledon.

When asked about her injury after Thursday's match, Williams replied, "So far, so good."

She'll take on Sweden's Johanna Larsson in the third round.
