March Madness 2022 score: South Carolina and Stanford are off to the Final Four after regional final wins

Stanford and South Carolina are the first two teams to book their tickets to Minneapolis

Half of the Final Four is set, and its deja vu for half of the national semifinals in 2022. At the very start of the year, Stanford and South Carolina were widely though of as the top two teams in the country, and now they're two of the last four standing after winning the Greensboro and and Spokane regions. 

South Carolina, the AP's wire-to-wire No. 1 team, showed dominance with a 30-point victory over Creighton in the Elite Eight round. Stanford, meanwhile avenged an earlier season loss to Texas with an Elite Eight win to send the Cardinal back to the Final Four. The Cardinal will take on the NC State-UConn winner in one Final Four matchup and on the other side of the bracket South Carolina will play the Michigan-Louisville winner.

Here's a quick look at Sunday's captivating Elite Eight matchups. 

• No. 1 overall seed South Carolina dominated with a 30-point win against No. 10 seed Creighton. The Gamecocks are heading to the fourth Final Four round in program history. Star forward Aliyah Boston led her team's offense with 19 points and seven rebounds, but three other starters also scored in double digits. South Carolina used its height advantage and outrebounded the Bluejays 43-23. They also registered their 13th game with 40+ points in the paint.

• No. 1 seed Stanford is still on its journey to get back-to-back national titles. The Cardinal are advancing to their 15th Final Four appearance for the program with a 59-50 win over Texas thanks to some strong offensive and defensive performances. Lexie Hull had led all scorers with 20 points, and Haley Jones registered a double-double with 18 points and 12 rebounds. Center Cameron Brink was big on defense with six blocks and one steal

Final: Stanford 59, Texas 50 

It was a physical game with a combined 46 fouls. No. 1 seed Stanford was scoreless for almost three minutes into the last period, but the Cardinal defense remained strong to not let No. 2 seed Texas catch up during their drought. It was a close game for most of the night. Stanford had found an eight-point lead earlier, but it was a three-point game with two minutes remaining. Senior guard Lexie Hull had a 20-point performance for the Cardinal. Haley Jones was right behind her a double-double of 18 points and 12 rebounds. On the defense, sophomore center Cameron Brink had a big night with six blocks and one steal. She also contributed with 10 points.

End of 3rd quarter: Stanford 45, Texas 40

This is still a close game after the third quarter with both teams playing defense. Although on paper Texas came in as the stronger defensive team, the Cardinal have an 8-1 block advantage at the end of this period. Offensively, Stanford is just outshooting Texas 38.1% - 35.9%. Lexie Hull and Haley Jones lead the Cardinal with 12 points each. Hull will have to be extra careful at the beginning of the fourth quarter as she already has three fouls. Texas' offense is led by Rori Harmon and Joanne Allen-Taylor with 13 points each.

Halftime: Stanford 30, Texas 27

The Cardinal did not score a field goal for the first four minutes of the second quarter, but then they picked up some momentum and made their next four shots. Stanford senior guard Lexie Hull is leading all scorers with 12 points. Junior guard Haley Jones is also having a solid night for the Cardinal with nine points and nine rebounds in the first two quarters. Texas averages less than five three-pointers per game, but the Longhorns already registered four in the first half. Their offense is led by senior guard Joanne Allen-Taylor's nine points on 50% shooting.

End of 1st quarter: Stanford 14, Texas 14

No. 1 seed Stanford is looking to defend its national title, but first the Cardinal need to get past No. 2 seed Texas and reach the Final Four. Stanford guard Haley Jones made a jumper as the clock was running out to tie the game at 14 points. Both teams finished the first quarter shooting below 40% from the field. This will be an offense vs defense type of game. Stanford is a top 25 team offensively, averaging 74.4 points per game. However, the Longhorns are a tough defensive team, only allowing opponents 56.7 points per game.

Final: South Carolina 80, Creighton 50

The No. 1 overall seed South Carolina is heading to its fourth Final Four in program history, all four in the last eight NCAA Tournaments. South Carolina's offense was strong throughout the game, shooting at 50.9% from the field. Creighton tried to compete from beyond the arc, but the Bluejays' seven three-pointers were not enough. The Gamecocks only made three, but they registered their 13th game with 40+ points in the paint. Aliyah Boston led all scorers with 19 points going 7-of-9 from the field. She did not get her 28th straight double-double, but her teammate Victoria Saxton did with 11 points and 11 rebounds. Brea Beal and Destanni Henderson collected 12 points each.
