AEW Double or Nothing landed itself in the history books last year, marking the highly-anticipated debut of All Elite Wrestling. Now, we're all set for the 2020 edition of Double or Nothing on Saturday night as AEW continues to pave its way in the pro wrestling landscape. Originally scheduled to head back to the MGM Grand in Las Vegas this weekend before the coronavirus pandemic, Double or Nothing will take place inside the confines of Daily's Place at TIAA Bank Field in Jacksonville, Florida. We should be in for a terrific night of wrestling on this 2020 Memorial Day weekend.
The main event brings together two men who were part of iconic factions in WWE during the same era, with Jon Moxley -- formerly Dean Ambrose of The Shield in WWE -- and Brodie Lee -- formerly Luke Harper of WWE's Wyatt Family -- battling over Moxley's AEW world championship. In addition, the Double or Nothing card will hold the historic distinction of crowning the first TNT champion in AEW history among the other action that will take place at the event.
AEW Double or Nothing is scheduled to begin at 8 p.m. ET, with the event being available for purchase on Fite TV and B/R Live ($49.99) as well as traditional PPV through your cable provider ($59.99).
AEW Double or Nothing matches
AEW World Championship -- Jon Moxley (c) vs. Brodie Lee: After Moxley began to move on from his dealings with The Inner Circle, he found himself squarely in the sights of Brodie Lee and The Dark Order. After a vicious attack, Lee demanded a title shot only to be told by Moxley that he only needed to ask. Now, Lee will attempt to add power to an increasingly interesting stable by collecting the top belt in AEW.
AEW TNT Championship -- Cody vs. Lance Archer: After an exciting tournament leading up to crowning the first-ever champion, Cody and Archer are now set to battle over the TNT title. Archer defeated Colt Cabana and Dustin Rhodes to make the finals while Cody defeated old rivals Shawn Spears and Darby Allin to punch his own ticket. Cody can "never again" challenge for the AEW world championship after losing to Jericho months back, leaving the TNT title as his prime target and the intimidating Archer -- as well as mentor Jake "The Snake" Roberts -- in his way. After Roberts left Brandi Rhodes laying in the ring and tauntingly covered her with a snake, the match has taken on more significance. Speaking of significance to make the moment even more historic, it was announced on the May 13 edition of Dynamite that none other than "Iron" Mike Tyson will be on hand to present the winner with the TNT championship.
Stadium Stampede -- Matt Hardy & The Elite vs. The Inner Circle: Prior to the coronavirus pandemic halting the sports and entertainment, these two factions were scheduled to battle in a Blood & Guts match on an episode of Dynamite in Newark, New Jersey, which would have been AEW's spin on the traditional WarGames match. Well, the groups will now finally clash in the first-ever "Stadium Stampede," which should be interesting to watch unfold inside the confines TIAA Bank Field.
Casino Ladder Match -- Darby Allin vs. Colt Cabana vs. Orange Cassidy vs. Joey Janela vs. Scorpio Sky vs. Kip Sabian vs. Frankie Kazarian vs. Luchasaurus vs. mystery competitor: There's nothing AEW loves as much as gambling-themed matches for title shots on pay-per-view. The winner of this match will earn a future shot at the AEW world title, and there's an interesting mix of personalities lined up. The match begins with two men in the ring and a new competitor will enter every 90 seconds. Eight participants were specifically named while the ninth and final competitor will be revealed the night of Double or Nothing.
MJF vs. Jungle Boy: MJF's time on the sidelines due to a variety of "injuries" will come to a close as he faces Jungle Boy. The two have some history, having met in a four-way match at Fyter Fest -- which was won by Adam Page.
AEW Women's Championship -- Nyla Rose (c) vs. Hikaru Shida (No disqualification): Shida had been on a tear in singles competition before beating Britt Baker, Kris Statlander and Penelope Ford in a four-way match on May 13 to earn a shot at the title on PPV. After being attacked by Rose with a kendo stick, the match was changed to a no disqualification, no count out bout with a lot more heat.
Penelope Ford vs. Kris Statlander: This women's contest was originally slated to feature Dr. Britt Baker taking on Statlander, but unfortunately, plans were forced to change. Baker reportedly suffered a knee injury on the go-home episode of Dynamite in a tag match where she teamed with champion Nyla Rose to take on Statlander and Hikaru Shida. Ford was announced as her last-minute replacement to face Statlander on Friday evening.
Dustin Rhodes vs. Shawn Spears: A last-minute addition to the card, Spears issued a challenge to the veteran on the May 20 episode of Dynamite. A short time later, the bout was announced as official.
Private Party vs. Best Friends (The Buy-In pre-show): Two fan-favorite teams will meet on the pre-show with the No. 1 contendership for the AEW tag titles on the line.
AEW Double or Nothing predictions
The Revolt debuts: It's hard to imagine burning as big of a match as The Revolt vs. The Young Bucks under the current circumstances, but let's have some fun and assume that we at least see the former Scott Dawson and Dash Wilder of The Revival fame in WWE make a splash at Double or Nothing. AEW has used pay-per-view debuts in big ways in the past.
