WWE Raw results, recap, grades: Bad Blood begins coming together with a trio of huge matches
October's Bad Blood event is quickly coming together after Monday's episode of Raw
While many wrestling fans may be looking ahead to Survivor Series on Nov. 30, WWE spent Raw placing the building blocks for a compelling Bad Blood Premium Live Event in less than a month. Included in those matches is a Hell in a Cell bout featuring CM Punk and Drew McIntyre.
Punk and McIntyre have won one match apiece in their ongoing rivalry, with McIntyre obliterating Punk on the Raw after Punk won their strap match at Bash in Berlin. There aren't many bigger steps for a rivalry to take than meeting in one of WWE's most iconic matches.
CBS Sports was with you all night with recaps and highlights of all the action from Scotiabank Saddledome in Calgary.
Bad Blood card begins to come together
A loaded "season premiere" for Raw featured plenty of action, but one of the main focal points was the card for Bad Blood starting to come together. Three massive matches were put in place for the event, which takes place Oct. 5 at State Farm Arena in Atlanta.
Rhea Ripley will get another crack at Liv Morgan and the women's world championship, Finn Balor also threw down the challenge for a highly-anticipated match with Damian Priest, and CM Punk and Drew McIntyre will have their rubber match inside Hell in a Cell. Also, Jey Uso locked down a match with intercontinental champion Bron Breakker, though WWE did not confirm if that match would take place at Bad Blood or on an upcoming episode of Raw.
Bad Blood is already looking more stacked than most WWE Premium Live Events that aren't lumped in the traditional top-tier. Given Punk's injury history, a Hell in a Cell match is higher risk than most matches that take place in WWE's iconic structure. In addition, the story of the Judgment Day continues to advance with Ripley vs. Morgan and Priest vs. Balor. It's unlikely those matches result in any long-term resolution to the Judgment Day story but both should bring plenty of drama. Grade: B+
What else happened on WWE Raw?
- The Wyatt Sicks def. American Made via pinfall in an eight-person mixed tag team street fight. A chaotic opener to the show with all the car crash elements you'd expect. While Uncle Howdy wasn't in the match, he made his presence known late before Dexter Lumis came off the top rope to finish off Chad Gable.
- Finn Balor and Damian Priest agreed to a match at Bad Blood. Balor called Priest to the ring after a promo and made the challenge shortly after it was announced that Liv Morgan would defend the women's world championship against Rhea Ripley at Bad Blood. The rest of Judgment Day pounced and eventually overwhelmed Priest until Ripley came out from the back on a crutch. Morgan tried to attack Ripley but Ripley hit Morgan and Dominik Mysterio with the crutch until Morgan attacked her bad knee. Judgment Day wore out Priest and Ripley until Priest covered Ripley's body while Morgan hit him several times with the crutch before Mysterio did the same. Jey Uso eventually ran out to make the save.
- Women's Tag Team Championship – Jade Cargill & Bianca Belair (c) def. Unholy Alliance via pinfall to retain the titles.
- Bret Hart made his return to Raw. Hart talked about being not only a great champion but a great Canadian champion and Canadian champions never duck a challenge. This brought out Gunther, who took a few backhanded shots at Hart before Sami Zayn interrupted. Zayn threw down a challenge for a shot at the world heavyweight championship again, and again, Gunther said no. As Gunther left, Hart called him a gutless, yellow coward and a brawl broke out between Zayn and Gunther to end the segment.
- Dominik Mysterio def. Dragon Lee via pinfall after a frog splash. The LWO and Judgment Day brawled outside the ring, causing a distraction that allowed Liv Morgan to sneak into the ring and chop block Lee. That attack set up Mysterio to hit a 619 and frog splash for the win.
- Lyra Valkyria, Zelina Vega & Natalya def. Pure Fusion Collective via submission. Natalya was the surprise member of Valkyria and Vega's team and the hometown woman locked up the sharpshooter on Zoey Stark for the victory.
- Adam Pearce announced Drew McIntyre vs. CM Punk at Bad Blood. McIntyre cut a promo about his attack on Punk last Monday and confronted Wade Barrett about getting in his way. Pearce interrupted and said that McIntyre and Punk would have to meet one more time, announcing the Hell in a Cell match which McIntyre said was signing Punk's death certificate.
- Rey Mysterio def. Finn Balor via disqualification after Balor refused to release a single-leg crab while Mysterio was in the ropes. Balor continued attacking Mysterio after the match. After being pulled away by WWE officials, Balor ran back to deliver one more running dropkick to send Mysterio crashing into the ring apron.
- Jey Uso def. Braun Strowman, Pete Dunne and Ilja Dragunov via pinfall to become No. 1 contender to the intercontinental championship. Throughout the show, Bron Breakker came face to face with Strowman, Dunne and Dragunov. Uso came out on top by hitting an Uso Splash on Dunne after Strowman was taken out when Bronson Reed splashed him through the commentary desk. Uso is now the No. 1 contender to Breakker's title.
