WWE Raw was once again broadcast from an empty WWE Performance Center as the promotion continues to build toward WrestleMania 36 in the middle of the global coronavirus pandemic. And again, the promotion leaned on classic matches from the vault to fill time. This Monday night, it was the 2015 Royal Rumble match between Brock Lesnar, Seth Rollins and John Cena as well as the WrestleMania 34 match between Asuka and Charlotte Flair that were highlighted on the show.
In addition, WWE champion Brock Lesnar was in the ring with advocate Paul Heyman to deliver a message to Drew McIntyre to open the show. WrestleMania matches were also changed -- and made official -- with AJ Styles changing his planned with The Undertaker to a boneyard match, Seth Rollins taking Kevin Owens up on his offer to battle on the biggest card of the year, and Randy Orton officially accepting Edge's challenge for a last man standing match. Also, Raw women's champion Becky Lynch delivered a message to Shayna Baszler with a steel chair.
Let's take a look at what went down from the Performance Center as WrestleMania creeps ever closer.
WWE Raw results, grades
Paul Heyman and Brock Lesnar opened the show in the ring. Heyman said Lesnar brings an example of stability in an unstable world. Heyman vowed that Drew McIntyre can't beat Lesnar at WrestleMania. "I can assure you after what happened at the Royal Rumble, and what happened in Brooklyn, New York, Brock Lesnar will make it quick, but he won't make it painless," Heyman said. Grade: B
AJ Styles cut a promo with The O.C. by his side. He made fun of The Undertaker for wearing "maternity pants" at the WrestleMania contract signing last week. Styles also made fun of Undertaker's Twitter video where he was in a pool with a tiger, calling him a "gothic Tiger King." Styles said Undertaker hasn't been the same since his WrestleMania streak was broken. "I don't want the Mark Calloway that is posting selfies on Twitter. I want The Undertaker of yesteryear. That's who I want. And he is nowhere to be found." Styles then changed their WrestleMania match to a "boneyard match." Grade: B-
Angel Garza & Andrade def. Cedric Alexander & Ricochet via pinfall after Andrade hit Alexander with a back elbow. Before the match, Zelina Vega, Andrade and Garza were interviewed backstage, promising to beat the Street Profits at WrestleMania. During the match, the Profits music hit and the Raw tag champs came out to join the commentary booth, though they never interfered in the lengthy match. After the match, however, the Profits walked to the ring and engaged in a brief brawl before chasing off their WrestleMania challengers. Grade: B
The Street Profits (c) def. Shane Thorne & Brendan Vink via pinfall in a non-title match after Montez Ford hit Torne with the Cash Out. After running off Andrade and Garza, the Profits had a match with NXT members Thorne and Vink. The Profits mostly ran through Thorne & Vink, who were in an old school "enhancement talent" role for the match. Grade: C
Shayna Baszler was interviewed in the ring. Bazler said she wants to take the Raw women's title from Becky Lynch at WrestleMania because she "loves to destroy" and taking the title would "destroy Becky Lynch." At that point, Lynch slid into the ring and blasted Baszler in the back with a chair. She hit her with a chair one more time before smiling and walking to the back. Grade: B+
Aleister Black def. Leon Ruff via pinfall after a Black Mass kick. Black sat down in the center of the ring to start the match, Ruff tried to get him so stand up, then attacked and was hit with Black Mass for the pin. Grade: C
Kevin Owens and Seth Rollins cut dueling promos. Owens said he heard Rollins was in the building and wanted an answer to his WrestleMania challenge made last week on Raw. Rollins came to the ramp and said a match at the Performance Center was not a "home field advantage" for Owens. Rollins said the building was built on his sacrifice and success because he came up through FCW, not the Performance Center. Rollins, after taking credit for NXT and the women's evolution, pointed out his WrestleMania resume's strength against Owens' lack of the same level of success. "Under pressure, I become a god," Rollins said, effectively accepting Owens' challenge. Grade: B+
Charlotte Flair was interviewed backstage after a her 2018 WrestleMania match with Asuka was replayed. She invited WrestleMania 36 opponent Rhea Ripley to rewatch more of her matches to learn a thing or two before the two clash for Ripley's NXT women's championship. Grade: C
Randy Orton cut a promo to close the show. Orton said that he has "done some things, said some things that have been misunderstood" in recent weeks with his attack on Edge and the following attack on Beth Phoenix. Orton apologized and said three weeks ago he lied when he said Edge was a junkie for the roar of the crowd. "Adam Copeland is a junkie for Edge," Orton said. Orton said he has more grit than anyone on the company and pointed out Edge would have done everything Orton would have done in his career -- including joining Evolution. Orton again said everything he has done to Edge was done out of love for Edge and his family. "You want Randy Orton in a last man standing match at WrestleMania? Edge, you may be writing the story," Orton said. "But at WrestleMania, I'm going to write the last chapter and end it. I accept." Grade: A-
