WWE Raw results, recap, grades: CM Punk, Sami Zayn vs. Seth Rollins, Bron Breakker set for primetime showdown

Plus a fantastic main event involving Iyo Sky, Rhea Ripley, Giulia and Roxanne Perez

WWE Saturday Night's Main Event is shaping up big time. On Raw, CM Punk and Sami Zayn vs. Seth Rollins and Bron Breakker was announced for the May 24 primetime special.

The aftershock of WrestleMania 41 is still being felt. Rollins and Breakker have the potential to be a memorable faction, but they have serious opposition to contend with in Punk and Zayn. Complicating matters is world heavyweight champion Jey Uso, who's involved in the feud while also dealing with Logan Paul and Gunther.

Monday's show also featured a terrific main event featuring women's world champion Iyo Sky, Rhea Ripley, Giulia and Roxanne Perez, plus the fourth encounter between AJ Styles and Finn Balor.

Saturday Night's Main Event gets major upgrade, Raw's main event delivers

Punk kicked off Monday Night Raw. Punk licked his wounds from WrestleMania, but couldn't shake off his anger. The person Punk was most angry with was himself. He'd been betrayed by Heyman before and he was a fool to let it happen again. Punk had hoped he and his former friend had changed in the last 12 years, but he was wrong. 

Queue Heyman, Rollins and Breakker. Rollins stood up for Heyman, claiming Punk was trying to shift the blame off himself. Rollins sicced Breakker on Punk, and the pair started beating down Heyman's ex-client. Zayn arrived to help Punk, but the fan-favorites were overwhelmed. The situation looked dire as Rollins grabbed a steel chair, but world heavyweight champion Uso's intervention turned the tide. Rollins and Breakker lunged at Uso, giving Punk and Zayn time to grab chairs and force their foes' retreat.

Afterwards, Punk and Zayn vs. Rollins and Breakker was announced for Saturday Night's Main Event on May 24. Backstage, Punk confessed he had trouble trusting anyone, but Zayn reminded him how well they worked together at Survivor Series: WarGames. The pair bumped fists. Rollins, Heyman and Breakker also convened backstage. Rollins whispered a final request in Breakker's ear before Breakker took off for the night. 

Uso's night wasn't over. The world champ addressed his next title challenger, Logan Paul, only to be informed who his subsequent challenger will be if he's still champion after May 24. Former champion Gunther revealed he would challenge the winner of Uso vs. Paul on the June 9th Raw, two nights after Money in the Bank.

It didn't take long for Rollins' plan to be revealed. After Raw returned from commercial break, Breakker -- flanked by Heyman -- hovered over Uso after attacking him backstage. Uso vs. Breakker was subsequently announced for next week.

Iyo Sky and Rhea Ripley def. Giulia and Roxanne Perez via pinfall after Ripley hit Riptide on Giulia. The women were given approximately half an hour to work and made the most of it. The action was crisp and the momentum swings were frequent. Sky delivered as usual, while Giulia proved to be a major coup for WWE.

The subject matter on Monday wasn't particularly gripping, but it's great seeing so much development in the main event scene. Seeing Breakker and Zayn in a marquee storyline is refreshing, and Uso plays an interesting role fighting on multiple fronts. WWE has given fans several reasons to tune into Saturday Night's Main Event, and that's important for keeping these primetime specials relevant. The main event was fantastic. Calling up Giulia and Perez from NXT has injected more life into Raw's women's division. Grade: A
