Player Outlook
Fantasy managers hoped for the best when Kris Bryant inked a long-term deal with the Rockies, but he has played just 122 games in total over the past two seasons dealing with lower half and hand injuries that has limited him to a .259/.335/.404 line with 15 homers and 45 RBIs in 460 at bats with the club. Bryant simply has not been the same player since peaking in 2019 as he mas missed chunks of time in three of the past four seasons around moments of productivity. He has dealt with foot, heel, and back injuries that forced him to DH more frequently, but he thankfully retains his outfield eligibility for drafts as he gutted through 46 games in right field last season. Coors Field can obviously help players age gracefully as we have seen with Charlie Blackmon but do not make the same mistake the Rockies did and overpay for these services. Bryant is not hitting 30 homers again and he is likely done stealing bases, even in this new world order.

  • Rockies' Kris Bryant: Goes deep in loss

Bryant went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run and a walk in Tuesday's 13-7 loss to the Guardians. Bryant has gone 6-for-28 (.214) over eight games since he returned from a back injury. His homer Tuesday was his first extra-base hit in that span. The 32-year-old is slashing a meager .173/.303/.280 with two homers, nine RBI, four runs scored and two doubles over 21 contests this season. For now, it looks like Bryant and Elehuris Montero will share first base and designated hitter.

  • Rockies' Kris Bryant: Receiving Thursday off

Bryant is out of the lineup for Thursday's game against the Athletics. Bryant will be joined on the bench by Elias Diaz, Charlie Blackmon and Brendan Rodgers as the Rockies rest four key regulars for the day game after a night game. • Rockies' Kris Bryant: Quiet in return

Bryant went 0-for-4 with a strikeout Tuesday against the Athletics. Bryant was activated from the injured list Tuesday and appeared in the lineup for the first time since April 13. Despite maintaining a .489 OPS through 59 plate appearances, Bryant projects to remain a regular in the Rockies' lineup moving forward.

Bryant (back) was reinstated from the 10-day injured list ahead of Tuesday's game in Oakland, Patrick Lyons of JustBaseball.com reports. Bryant returns to the lineup for the Rockies on Tuesday, starting at first base and batting fifth. The 32-year-old landed on the injured list April 17 with a lower back strain. The veteran was slashing only .149/.273/.255 over 13 games before getting injured. With his return to the lineup, Sean Bouchard has been optioned to Triple-A Albuquerque.

  • Rockies' Kris Bryant: Likely to begin rehab stint Tuesday

Bryant (back) is likely to begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Albuquerque on Tuesday, MLB.com reports. Bryant hasn't played since April 13 due to a lower-back strain, but he took a major step forward in his recovery by taking batting practice Friday and Saturday. According to the report, Bryant displayed even more power in Saturday's live BP session than Friday's, leaving the Rockies optimistic that he'll soon be ready to rejoin the big club. Bryant will report to Albuquerque on Tuesday, and if all goes well in his rehab assignment, manager Bud Black left the door open for the four-time All-Star to return to the big club in advance of Friday's series opener in San Francisco.

  • Rockies' Kris Bryant: Takes batting practice

Bryant (back) took batting practice prior to Friday's game against the Rangers, MLB.com reports. Bryant began the session cautiously, just getting the ball out of the infield. However, he was able to pull the ball over the fence by his final swings, a positive sign for his recovery. There hasn't been a date set yet, but Bryant is expected to begin a rehab assignment soon.

  • Rockies' Kris Bryant: Does fielding drills

Bryant (back) did infield drills and hit in the batting cage prior to the Rockies' game against the Giants on Wednesday, Patrick Saunders of the Denver Post reports. Bryant has progressed slowly since landing on the injured list, and it has since been disclosed that he has disc and arthritis issues in his lower back. He took a step forward Wednesday, making his first participation in baseball activities since being sidelined. Manager Bud Black noted that Bryant will likely need a rehab assignment, meaning there's a good chance he won't be activated until at least late May.

  • Rockies' Kris Bryant: No baseball work yet

Rockies manager Bud Black said Tuesday that Bryant (back) is not participating in baseball activities and won't be reinstated from the 10-day injured list when first eligible Wednesday, Patrick Lyons of JustBaseball.com reports. There apparently isn't much concern about the back strain being a serious issue since Bryant hasn't been sent for medical imaging, but the lower-back strain will still keep him sidelined for the near future. The 32-year-old doesn't have an official timeline for his return and should be considered out indefinitely until he resumes baseball activities.

  • Rockies' Kris Bryant: Lands on IL with lower-back strain

The Rockies placed Bryant on the 10-day injured list Wednesday with a low back strain. The Rockies gave Bryant a few days to recover from the back issue with the hope that he could avoid the IL, but the organization ultimately decided that he required some more down time. Because the IL move is retroactive to Sunday, Bryant will be eligible for activation on April 24. However, there's no word yet as to whether he'll have a chance to be ready at that time. Sean Bouchard was called up from Triple-A Albuquerque to take Bryant's spot on the 26-man active roster.

  • Rockies' Kris Bryant: Not starting Sunday

Bryant (back/ribs) is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Blue Jays. Bryant was removed in the fourth inning of Saturday's 5-3 loss after experiencing soreness in his right ribs and back, but at this stage, Rockies manager Bud Black isn't expecting the 32-year-old to miss much time, according to the Associated Press. The four-time All-Star's injury stems from when he twisted around and crashed into the outfield wall after making a catch on a deep drive off the bat of Vladimir Guerrero in the first inning. Bryant was able to stay in the game initially and doubled in his at-bat in the second inning, but he struck out in his next at-bat in the fourth inning and was pulled in the bottom of the frame when his back stiffened up. Consider Bryant day-to-day heading into Monday's series opener in Philadelphia.

He played a few more innings afterward but had to come out of the game in the fourth inning. The severity of his back injury remains unknown, but he should be considered day-to-day for the time being.

It's unclear at the moment if his removal had anything to do with his collision, but the Rockies should offer more information in the near future. In the meantime, Michael Toglia will fill in as Colorado's right fielder.

  • Rockies' Kris Bryant: Back in lineup at DH

Bryant (back) will serve as the Rockies' designated hitter and cleanup batter in Sunday's game against the Rays. Bryant was held out of action for Saturday's 8-6 loss to Tampa Bay while tending to lower-back stiffness, but he feels well enough to return to action for the series finale, albeit in a non-defensive role. Michael Toglia will draw the start at first base Sunday, but expect Bryant to resume playing his normal position within the next few days, assuming the back issue doesn't crop up again.

  • Rockies' Kris Bryant: Battling back stiffness

Bryant isn't in the lineup Saturday versus the Rays due to lower-back stiffness, Patrick Saunders of The Denver Post reports. Bryant has a history of back issues in his career, so the Rockies will play it safe and hold him out until his condition improves. Michael Toglia will cover right field while the former MVP sits and could see increased playing time if Bryant's injury ends up costing him multiple games.
