O'Neill went 2-for-5 with a three-run home run in a 9-3 win over the Phillies on Thursday.
O'Neill singled in the first inning then broke the game open in the fourth, crushing a three-run homer off Aaron Nola that traveled 430 feet over the Green Monster. After returning at DH from a knee injury Wednesday, O'Neill got the start in right field and hit his first home run since May 19. O'Neill endured a terrible May, hitting .151 with two home runs and five RBI over 73 at-bats but has opened June going 7-for-16 with a homer and five RBI in just five contests. Health has always been a concern for O'Neill, as he has eclipsed 100 games played in a season just once, but he is now slashing .256/.356/.512 with 12 home runs in 2024.

Red Sox's Tyler O'Neill: Returning as DH on Wednesday
O'Neill (knee) will serve as Boston's designated hitter and No. 3 batter in Wednesday's game against the Phillies, Jen McCaffrey of The Athletic reports.
O'Neill hadn't played in any of the Red Sox's last three games due to right knee inflammation and looked to be at risk of a return to the 10-day injured list, but the 28-year-old was apparently able to show enough improvement over the last few days to avoid being deactivated again. Masataka Yoshida should settle in as the Red Sox's primary DH after returning from the IL on Tuesday, but he'll hit the bench Wednesday to facilitate O'Neill's return to the lineup. It's unclear when the Red Sox might be comfortable with having O'Neill make starts in the corner outfield.

Red Sox's Tyler O'Neill: Hoping to return Wednesday
O'Neill (knee) remains out of the lineup for Tuesday's game versus the Phillies.
O'Neill will miss a third straight start after his right knee flared up on him again this past Friday. The good news is he's feeling much better and is hoping to be back in action Wednesday, per Rob Bradford of WEEI.com. Masataka Yoshida is at designated hitter Tuesday for the Red Sox, and the club will have Jarren Duran, Ceddanne Rafaela and Rob Refsnyder in the outfield.

Red Sox's Tyler O'Neill: Out until at least Tuesday
Manager Alex Cora said Saturday that O'Neill (knee) will remain out of the lineup for Sunday's series finale with the White Sox, but the Red Sox remain hopeful to have him back in the lineup for Tuesday's series opener in Philadelphia following an off day Monday, the Associated Press reports. "If we can take advantage of the next three days and avoid the [injured list], that's what we're gonna do," Cora said.
After being on the IL previously with right knee inflammation, O'Neill was activated Wednesday. However, O'Neill made just three starts before he was removed in Friday's 7-2 loss to Chicago in the third inning after he had tweaked his knee while tracking down a flyball the inning prior. Though the Red Sox are seemingly optimistic that O'Neill will steer clear of another IL stint, he'll still need to demonstrate enough progress coming out of Monday's off day for that to become a reality. Bobby Dalbec started in right field in place of O'Neill in Saturday's 6-1 loss and could be the main beneficiary if O'Neill continues to miss more time beyond Sunday.

O'Neill (knee) is not in the starting lineup for Saturday's game against the White Sox, Pete Abraham of The Boston Globe reports.
O'Neill left Friday's 7-2 loss to the White Sox in the third inning due to right knee discomfort. The 28-year-old recently came off the injured list due to inflammation in the same knee. O'Neill is slashing .250/.354/.500 with 11 home runs and 18 RBI over 181 plate appearances this season. Jarren Duran and Bobby Dalbec will start in the outfield corners Saturday, while Ceddanne Rafaela roams center and David Hamilton plays shortstop.

Red Sox's Tyler O'Neill: Leaves game with injury
O'Neill was removed from Friday's game against the White Sox due to an apparent knee injury, Mac Cerullo of the Boston Herald reports.
O'Neill had been visibly bothered by his right knee for about an inning before eventually coming out of the game during the third frame. The 28-year-old outfielder recently spent time on the injured list due to inflammation in the same knee, so the Red Sox will surely take a close look at him and should provide an update on his status in the near future.

Given the blowout nature of Thursday's contest, Red Sox manager Alex Cora opted to pull O'Neill after six innings.

Red Sox's Tyler O'Neill: Batting fifth in return from IL
The Red Sox reinstated O'Neill (knee) from the 10-day injured list Wednesday. He'll start in right field and bat fifth in Wednesday's series finale with Atlanta, according to Mac Cerullo of the Boston Herald.
He'll be back in action after spending the minimum 10 days on the shelf with right knee inflammation. Prior to being deactivated, O'Neill had been making most of his starts in left field or at designated hitter, but he could see regular action in right field for the foreseeable future after Wilyer Abreu (ankle) was placed on the IL on Tuesday.
