Hayes went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run and a second run scored in Saturday's 8-1 win over the Blue Jays. The third baseman took Yusei Kikuchi deep in the first inning, helping to kick-start what proved to be a laugher for the Pirates. It was only Hayes' second long ball of the season and his first in three games since recovering from back issues and coming off the IL. The 27-year-old had has a rough start to the campaign, but he could be rounding into form now that he's healthy.... See More ... See Less

Pirates' Ke'Bryan Hayes: Swipes first bag of 2024
Hayes went 1-for-4 with an RBI and a stolen base in Friday's 5-3 extra-innings loss to the Blue Jays. The steal was his first of the year, after he'd swiped 30 over the prior two seasons combined. Hayes missed most of May with back trouble, which could help explain his lack of activity on the basepaths, and Friday's single was his first hit of any kind since May 5. The third baseman has a disappointing .237/.318/.311 slash line through 36 games with one homer and 12 RBI, but if he can stay healthy he's capable of heating up over the summer.... See More ... Pirates' Ke'Bryan Hayes: Resting for second game of twin bill
Hayes is out of the lineup for the second game of Wednesday's doubleheader with the Tigers. After being activated from the injured list Tuesday, Hayes had to wait a day to make his return to the lineup due to a rainout creating a doubleheader Wednesday. He started at third base and played all eight innings in the field in the Pirates' 8-0 loss in the first game of the day, going 0-for-2 with a walk. Hayes should settle back into an everyday role at the hot corner, but the Pirates won't have him play two full games in his first day back in the lineup. Jared Triolo will fill in for him at third base in the second game of the day.... See More ... See Less -
Pirates' Ke'Bryan Hayes: Activated from injured list
The Pirates activated Hayes (back) from the 10-day injured list Tuesday. Hayes has been sidelined since early May with a back injury but will skip a rehab assignment and go directly back on the Pirates' active roster. The third baseman is slashing a disappointing .240/.322/.318 with just one home run and zero stolen bases this season.... See More ... See Less -
Pirates' Ke'Bryan Hayes: Nearing next steps
Hayes (back) has been hitting on the field and will run the bases Sunday, MLB.com reports. Assuming he feels well after Sunday's activity, Hayes will meet with manager Derek Shelton to determine his next steps. That would presumably either be activation from the injured list or a rebab assignment.... See More ... See Less -
Pirates' Ke'Bryan Hayes: Resuming activities Monday
Hayes (back) will resume baseball activities Monday, Andrew Destin of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports. The plan is for Hayes to play catch and field grounders Monday before swinging a bat Tuesday. Hayes landed on the injured list last weekend with a back injury which had been nagging at him for a while, but it sounds like he's feeling better after a little rest. He could make it back before the end of the month if all goes well.... See More ... See Less -
Pirates' Ke'Bryan Hayes: To IL with back issue
Hayes was placed on the 10-day injured list Saturday with a back issue, Kevin Gorman of TribLive.com reports. Hayes hasn't played since Tuesday amid a 3-for-30 slump, and perhaps the back issue is part of the reason he's only hit one home run in 35 games. Alika Williams is getting the call from Triple-A in a corresponding move.... See More ... See Less -
Pirates' Ke'Bryan Hayes: Sitting Wednesday amid slump
Hayes is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Angels. Hayes will get a breather for the series finale after he had started in each of the Pirates' last 11 games. The 27-year-old went 8-for-42 over that stretch, bringing his batting average down to a career-worst .240 for the season. Jared Triolo will fill in for Hayes at the hot corner Wednesday.... Pirates' Ke'Bryan Hayes: Slugs first homer
Hayes went 2-for-5 with a solo home run in Saturday's win over the Giants. Hayes jumped on a hanging sweeper from Tyler Rogers in the top of the 10th and sent it into the stands for his first home run of the season, going back-to-back with Bryan Reynolds as the Pirates took care of the Giants in extra innings. The third baseman has now registered two hits in back-to-back games and in three of his last six overall, batting .333 (8-for-24) over that stretch.... See More ... See Less -
Pirates' Ke'Bryan Hayes: Not in Thursday's lineup
Hayes is out of the lineup for Thursday's game against the Brewers, Kevin Gorman of TribLive.com reports. Hayes looks to be getting some routine maintenance for a day game after a night game. With Hayes on the bench, the Pirates will shift Jared Triolo over to third base Thursday and give Alika Williams a start at second base.... See More ... See Less -
Pirates' Ke'Bryan Hayes: Back in action Friday
Hayes (back) is starting at third base and batting third Friday against the Red Sox. The 27-year-old sat out the past two games with lower-back tightness but is ready to rejoin Pittsburgh's starting nine after Thursday's scheduled off day. Hayes struggled offensively in the five games preceding the absence, going 3-for-17 with two doubles, five walks and six strikeouts.... See More ... See Less -
Pirates' Ke'Bryan Hayes: Held out with back tightness
Hayes (back) is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Mets. Hayes was a late scratch ahead of Tuesday's 3-1 loss due to lower-back tightness, so it's not a surprise he's not ready to play in the series finale Wednesday. He missed about a month of action last season with the same injury and still has to manage back issues on occasion. At this point, he's considered day-to-day. Jared Triolo will start at third base Wednesday in place of Hayes.... See More ... See Less -
Pirates' Ke'Bryan Hayes: Scratched from lineup
Hayes was scratched from Tuesday's lineup versus the Mets. Hayes was initially slotted to start at third and hit third Tuesday. Oneil Cruz will enter the lineup at shortstop and bat seventh with Jared Triolo shifting to Hayes' position and spot in the order. The reason for the 27-year-old's removal from the Pirates' lineup is not yet clear.... See More ... See Less -
Pirates' Ke'Bryan Hayes: Not starting Saturday
Hayes isn't in the Pirates' lineup for Saturday's game against the Orioles, Kevin Gorman of TribLive.com reports. Hayes will get his first breather of the year after going 11-for-34 through Pittsburgh's first eight games. Jared Triolo will fill in at the hot corner while Hayes rests, allowing Alika Williams to start at second base and bat ninth.... See More ... See Less -
Pirates' Ke'Bryan Hayes: On base three times Friday
Hayes went 2-for-3 with a walk, a double, two runs scored and an RBI in Friday's 7-2 win over the Marlins. The third baseman had an uncharacteristically rough night in the field, committing two errors, but Hayes made up for it with his bat. He's 4-for-7 to begin the season with two doubles and three walks, and if the improved launch angle he flashed in the second half of 2023 proves to be a permanent adjustment, Hayes has the athletic talent to deliver a 20-20 campaign or better.... Pirates' Ke'Bryan Hayes: Showing power early in spring
Hayes has hit two home runs and a double across his first 14 Grapefruit League at-bats. Hayes is locked into every day playing at third base thanks to his tremendous defense, but his fantasy value will turn on his ability to hit for power and swipe bases. He took a step forward in the former category in 2023, improving his average launch angle to 13.2 degrees, which resulted in a career-best .182 ISO. He's seemingly carried that approach over into his early at-bats this spring and could be in for a solid regular season while occupying a key position in the Pittsburgh lineup.... See More ... Pirates' Ke'Bryan Hayes: Not in Sunday's lineup
Hayes is out of the lineup for Sunday's game versus the Marlins. Hayes went 2-for-5 with two doubles and a run in Saturday's loss to Miami, which will end up being his final start of the year. The 26-year-old took a step forward at the plate in 2023 with 15 homers and a .273/.310/.455 slash line in 124 games.... See More ... See Less -
Pirates' Ke'Bryan Hayes: Stays hot with homer
Hayes went 2-for-4 with a solo home run in Friday's 7-5 win over Cincinnati. Hayes went yard off Reds left-hander Andrew Abbott in the top of the fourth inning before adding a single in the top of the seventh. It was the fourth straight multi-hit game for the 26-year-old third baseman, who has slashed .329/.357/.595 across 83 plate appearances in September while lifting his season OPS to .786.... Pirates' Ke'Bryan Hayes: Stays hot Wednesday
Hayes went 3-for-5 with a double and two runs scored in Wednesday's 13-7 win over the Cubs. Hayes has five multi-hit efforts over his last seven games, going 13-for-29 (.448) in that span. He's produced one home run, five RBI and a stolen base in that span. The third baseman has been steady this season, batting .276 with a .771 OPS, 14 homers, 60 RBI, 59 runs scored and 10 stolen bases through 116 contests overall. With his three-hit effort Wednesday, he now has a career-high 126 hits for the season.... See More ... See Less -
Pirates' Ke'Bryan Hayes: Supplies only offense in rout
Hayes went 2-for-4 with a solo home run in Tuesday's 14-1 loss to the Cubs. The third baseman spoiled Chicago's shutout bid by taking Javier Assad deep in the third inning. Hayes is wrapping up a big second-half breakout, and since coming off the IL in early August, he's slashing .309/.349/.562 through 40 games with nine of his 14 homers on the season -- a power pace supported by his 93rd percentile average exit velocity, 89th percentile hard-hit rate and career-best 13.1 degree launch angle and 39 percent flyball rate in 2023.... Jason Mackey@JMackeyPG12H agoPirates are 1 of only 4 MLB teams with 1 or no players worth 1.0 fWAR or more (Connor Joe, 1.0). CWS, CIN and MIA the others. Also, NL Central has the fewest 1.0+ fWAR players in MLB. Was curious how Pirates stacked up with this stuff and did some research. https://t.co/LZ27zvNz8s
