Langeliers went 5-for-9 with a double, a triple, two home runs, a third run scored and eight RBI across both games of Wednesday's doubleheader split with the Rangers.
The 26-year-old backstop fell a single short of a cycle in the matinee while driving in five runs, and Langeliers then launched his second long ball of the day in the second inning of the nightcap off Jack Leiter. Langeliers' eight RBI were the most ever by an Oakland player in a doubleheader, breaking the record of seven set by Reggie Jackson in 1969. Langeliers has produced multiple hits with a homer in three of his last four games, but the surge has only brought his batting average up to .209 (24-for-115). He is supplying some big-time power, however. Through 34 contests, he's slugged nine homers with 24 RBI.

Langeliers' 420-foot shot to left center with Kyle McCann and Lawrence Butler aboard in the eighth inning certainly wasn't necessary for the red-hot Athletics' victory, but it still had a bit of extra significance since it pushed Oakland's tally to 20 runs on the afternoon. Langeliers needed a prolific effort at the plate like Saturday's in the worst way, considering he'd come into the day with a .165/.222/.381 slash line. The three-bagger was Langeliers' first of the season after he legged out four triples a year ago.

The struggling backstop experienced a rare taste of offensive success in Oakland's fourth win in the last five games. Langeliers is still sitting on a forgettable .172 average and .227 on-base percentage across 97 plate appearances. However, eight of his 15 hits have gone for extra bases and he has an acceptable 21.6 percent strikeout rate, offering some support for the notion that he'll be due for a turnaround once his atypically low .143 BABIP sees a boost.

Marcus Stroman left a breaking ball up in the strike zone in the second inning, and Langeliers launched it 414 feet to right-center field. It was the catcher's first long ball since his three-homer performance April 9 against the Rangers -- in the 11 games between those power displays, he went just 3-for-33 (.091) with a double as his only extra-base hit. On the season, Langeliers is slashing .174/.234/.406 through 77 plate appearances with five home runs and 11 RBI.

Langeliers put together a night to remembe, taking Nathan Eovaldi yard in the second inning before blasts in the seventh and ninth off relievers David Robertson and Jose Leclerc, respectively. It was Langeliers' first-career three-homer performance and just the third time he's ever hit multiple home runs. Langeliers came into Tuesday with just five hits on the season and is now up to a .250 average with four long balls and seven RBI.

Langeliers went 3-for-6 with a hit-by-pitch and a sacrifice fly over his last two games against the Guardians on Friday and Sunday.
The starting catcher started the season with an 0-for-3 showing on Opening Day before rapping out a pair of singles Friday, then getting on base two more times via another hit and the plunking Sunday in his return from a day off. Langeliers flashed some promising power a season ago with 22 home runs and 45 extra-base hits overall, and he also managed to lace seven (four doubles, one triple, two homers) of his 11 Cactus League hits for extra bases this spring.

Athletics' Shea Langeliers: On base twice in spring win
Langeliers went 1-for-2 with a walk in a Cactus League win over the Rangers on Sunday. He was also caught stealing on his only attempt.
The 26-year-old backstop came into the game with just one single across his first 11 spring plate appearances, so Sunday's showing was actually a step up. Langeliers impressively popped 45 extra-base hits, including 22 home runs, across 135 games in 2023, but he mustered a .205 average and .268 on-base percentage in the process. A 29.2 percent strikeout rate, 48.9 percent flyball rate and .246 BABIP all had a prominent hand in the struggles, but despite the presence of Tyler Soderstrom as a left-handed option behind the dish, Martin Gallegos of MLB.com still projects Langeliers to handle the bulk of the Athletics' catching duties in 2024.
