  • Marlins' Jazz Chisholm: Belts fourth homer

Chisholm went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run in Monday's 7-2 loss to the Nationals.

He spoiled Jake Irvin's attempt at a shutout by launching a fastball over the fence in center field in the sixth inning. Chisholm has gone yard in back-to-back games on the heels of a 17-game homer drought, and the 26-year-old could be catching fire. On the season, he's slashing .245/.339/.406 with four homers, five steals, 13 runs and 17 RBI in 29 contests.

  • Marlins' Trevor Rogers: Remains winless

Rogers (0-4) took the loss Monday, giving up three runs on four hits and three walks over five innings as the Marlins fell 7-2 to the Nationals. He struck out three.

The southpaw threw 55 of 89 pitches for strikes before exiting, and all three of the free passes he issued came in the fifth inning -- including one to Jesse Winker with the bases loaded. Rogers has gone at least five innings in all six of his starts so far this season but has yet to complete six frames, and he'll take a 4.31 ERA, 1.50 WHIP and 27:12 K:BB through 31.1 innings into his next outing, which lines up to come on the road this weekend in Oakland.

  • Marlins' Kyle Tyler: Outrighted to Triple-A

Tyler was sent outright to Triple-A Jacksonville on Monday, per MLB's transactions log.

Tyler failed to draw interest while on waivers and will now report to Triple-A to resume his 2024 campaign. He's surrendered four runs on six hits and two walks while striking out six over five frames so far this season for the Jumbo Shrimp.

  • Marlins' Tim Anderson: Diagnosed with thumb sprain

Anderson suffered a mild left thumb sprain during Monday's game against the Nationals, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.

Anderson will be considered day-to-day moving forward. Vidal Brujan would be in line for more playing time at shortstop if Anderson needs a few days off to recover.

  • Marlins' Tim Anderson: Exits early Monday

Anderson was removed from Monday's game against the Nationals with an apparent left hand injury, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.

Anderson appeared to suffer the injury while playing the field, though the team has yet to provide an official update on his status. Dane Myers will fill Anderson's spot in the order and man right field, while Vidal Brujan enters the game for Jesus Sanchez and slots in at shortstop.

  • Marlins' Jesus Luzardo: Diagnosed with mild flexor strain

Luzardo was diagnosed Monday with a mild flexor strain in his left elbow, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.

The diagnosis is relatively good news, especially considering that Luzardo was able to play catch Monday, three days after tightness in his pitching arm forced him to the injured list. Luzardo is without a timeline at this stage to return from the IL, but more clarity on that front could come once he advances to the point in his recovery program where he's able to face hitters.

  • Marlins' Vidal Brujan: Resting Monday

Brujan is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Nationals.

Brujan will hit the bench for the series finale after he had started at third base in each of Miami's last three games while going 6-for-11 with two triples, three runs and one RBI. Though Emmanuel Rivera will get the nod at the hot corner Monday, Brujan's hot hitting of late should gave him the leg up in terms of playing time at the position until Jake Burger (intercostal) returns from the 10-day injured list.

  • Marlins' Jesus Luzardo: Slated to play catch Monday

Luzardo (elbow) will play catch Monday, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.

The Marlins haven't provided word regarding the findings of the test results on Luzardo's left elbow from over the weekend, but the fact that he's already been cleared to throw just three days after landing on the 10-day injured list certainly seems like a good sign. Luzardo is eligible to return from the IL on May 10, but it's still too early in his recovery to know whether he might make it back by that date.

  • Marlins' Dane Myers: Bangs out triple in 2024 debut

Myers went 1-for-3 with a triple and a run scored in Sunday's loss to the Nationals.

Getting the start in right field and batting seventh in his season debut with the Marlins, Myers ripped a three-bagger off Patrick Corbin in the first inning and came around to score on Vidal Brujan's own triple in the very next at-bat. While he's in the majors, Myers will likely be deployed primarily against southpaws behind Miami's outfield trio of Jazz Chisholm, Jesus Sanchez and Nick Gordon, all of whom hit left-handed. If he gets hot at the plate though, the offense-starved Marlins could give Myers more playing time than expected.

  • Marlins' Bryan De La Cruz: Crosses plate twice in loss

De La Cruz went 2-for-4 with a walk, a double and two runs scored in Sunday's loss to the Nationals.

It was the 27-year-old's first multi-hit performance since April 17. De La Cruz has cooled down significantly, batting .205 (8-for-39) over the last 10 games, but he remains entrenched as the No. 2 hitter for a Miami team struggling to find consistent offense. On the season, he's slashing .261/.294/.437 with five homers, a steal, 13 runs and 14 RBI in 29 contests.

  • Marlins' Jazz Chisholm: Launches grand slam

Chisholm reached base three times, going 1-for-3 with a grand slam, two walks and two runs scored during Sunday's loss to the Nationals.

Chisholm's third blast of the season came off Nationals starter Patrick Corbin and got the Marlins off to a great start, plating four runs prior to the Nationals recording an out. Chisholm, who entered the game with just two hits in his previous 13 at-bats, ended a 17-game homerless drought with the first-inning bomb. His average now stands at .245 with three home runs, 15 RBI, 12 runs scored and five steals, while he's reached base at a career-high .342 clip.

  • Marlins' Ryan Weathers: Roughed up in no-decision

Weathers did not factor into the decision during Sunday's 12-9 loss to the Nationals, allowing six runs on five hits and three walks over four innings. He struck out three.

Weathers also hit three batters, allowing a total of 11 batters to reach base during his four-inning performance. The Marlins jumped out to an early 7-0 lead, which Weathers maintained through three innings, but a five-run fourth followed by beginning the fifth with his third hit batsman led to his removal from the game as the Nationals overtook the Marlins for good during that frame. Weathers entered the contest with a 3.16 ERA but saw that number balloon to 4.55 by the end of his outing. He'll look to rebound in a favorable matchup, tentatively scheduled to take place next weekend when the Marlins travel to Oakland to take on the A's.

  • Marlins' Max Meyer: Makes four-inning start at Triple-A

Meyer worked four innings in his start Saturday for Triple-A Jacksonville, striking out two while giving up four earned runs on six hits and no walks.

Meyer's results in his second start with Jacksonville were less noteworthy than the fact that he pitched at all for the Triple-A club, as the organization's decision to have him take the hill this weekend suggests that he isn't viewed as a candidate to fill the rotation spot at the big-league level that recently opened up when Jesus Luzardo (elbow) was placed on the 15-day injured list. Despite Meyer's success in his three outings with the big club earlier this season (2.12 ERA, 0.82 WHIP and 14:3 K:BB in 17 innings), the Marlins seem committed to keeping him on a once-a-week pitching schedule in the minors wherein he makes abbreviated starts, as the organization is keen on managing his 2024 workload coming off his August 2022 Tommy John surgery. Meyer is expected to rejoin the big-league rotation at some point in the second half of the season, though he could still operate under some restrictions with his innings or pitch counts at that time.

  • Marlins' Jesus Sanchez: Resting against lefty

Sanchez is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Nationals.

The lefty-hitting Sanchez is on the bench for the second game in a row while the Marlins face off against another left-handed starting pitcher (Patrick Corbin). With short-side platoon mate Avisail Garcia (hamstring) landing on the injured list Sunday, the newly recalled Dane Myers will replace Sanchez in right field.

  • Marlins' Nick Gordon: On bench against lefty

Gordon is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Nationals.

The lefty-hitting Gordon will stay on the bench for the second game in a row while the Marlins face another southpaw (Patrick Corbin) on Sunday. Bryan De La Cruz will step in for Gordon in left field and will bat second.

  • Marlins' Vidal Brujan: Draws third straight start

Brujan will start at third base and bat eighth in Sunday's game against the Nationals.

Brujan will make his third consecutive start at third base and appears set to get an extended look at the position while Jake Burger (oblique) is on the injured list. Over 33 plate appearances this season, Brujan has hit .200 with zero home runs or stolen bases, one RBI and three runs. His fantasy appeal could remain largely limited to NL-only leagues for the duration of Burger's absence.
