Athletics' Joe Boyle: Collects second win
Boyle (2-4) yielded a run on one hit and four walks over five innings Monday, striking out four and earning a win over the Pirates.
Boyle was charged with a run on a wild pitch in the first inning but otherwise didn't face much trouble. However, his command still continues to cause issues; he threw just 45 of 91 pitches for strikes, including only six whiffs. Boyle now owns a chaotic 28:20 K:BB with a 6.08 ERA through 26.2 innings (six starts). He's completed over five innings just one time this season. Boyle's next matchup is currently projected to be at home against the Marlins this weekend.

Athletics' Scott Alexander: Set for live BP
Alexander (ribs) is expected to throw live batting practice Tuesday, Martin Gallegos of MLB.com reports.
Alexander continues to progress in his recovery from a left rib contusion and he'll take the next step in his rehab process Tuesday. The 34-year-old has missed the entirety of the 2024 season to this point and he'll still likely have a multi-outing rehab assignment before he'll be able to return to the major-league bullpen down the road.

Athletics' Luis Medina: Slated for Tuesday bullpen
Medina (knee) is scheduled to throw a bullpen session Tuesday, Martin Gallegos of MLB.com reports.
Medina is on track to toss another side session Tuesday, and if all goes well, he could be given the green light to face live hitters later in the week. While the right-hander continues to trend in the right direction, the team has yet to disclose when he could be sent out on a rehab assignment.

Athletics' Freddy Tarnok: Set for bullpen session
Tarnok (hip) is scheduled to throw a bullpen session and live BP later in the week, Martin Gallegos of MLB.com reports.
Tarnok received a cortisone injection earlier in the month after experiencing inflammation in his surgically repaired right hip, and he's now on track to return to mound work this week. The club figures to take its time easing him back into action considering the right-hander has already had a setback following surgery.

Andujar (knee) is expected to run the bases Saturday, Martin Gallegos of MLB.com reports.
This is another step in the right direction for Andujar, who was cleared to begin a running program April 23. If he's able to work out Saturday without issue, he'll likely be sent out on a rehab assignment in the near future.

Athletics' J.D. Davis: Will continue rehab stint
Davis (thigh) will remain on a rehab assignment at Triple-A Las Vegas at least until Thursday, Martin Gallegos of MLB.com reports.
Davis got through Sunday's rehab appearance at Triple-A Las Vegas without issue, but the club evidently wants to see him get a few more chances in the minors before activating him from the 10-day IL. He served as the DH on Sunday, so he'll likely see some opportunities in the field later in the week to ensure he's back to full strength.

Athletics' Zack Gelof: Shut down from activity
Gelof (oblique) is currently shut down from baseball activity, Martin Gallegos of MLB.com reports.
Gelof was placed on the 10-day injured list Thursday with a strained left oblique, but he appears to be on track to miss more than the minimum amount of days. The 24-year-old will likely need to ramp his activity over a series of days before he could ultimately be activated. In the meantime, Max Schuemann will likely continue to handle the lion's share of work at second base with Oakland in Gelof's absence.

Waldichuk continues to advance in his rehab, and he's now scheduled to throw a sim game before potentially being sent out on a rehab assignment, per Gallegos. The southpaw figures to get a day or two off before his scheduled sim game.

Athletics' Luis Morales: Set to be activated Tuesday
High-A Lansing will activate Morales (shoulder) from its 7-day injured list Tuesday, baseball writer Francys Romero reports.
Morales opened the season on the IL with an previously unknown issue, but Romero's report relays that the 21-year-old right-hander was still working through some shoulder discomfort that had cropped up late in the 2023 campaign. The injury ultimately cost Morales just under a month of game action, but the Athletics were likely planning to limit his innings count in 2024 anyway. Morales made just two starts for Lansing last season, giving up three earned runs on six hits and three walks while striking out eight over 7.2 innings.

Athletics' T.J. McFarland: Secures first win Sunday
McFarland (1-0) got the win against the Orioles on Sunday, firing a perfect eighth inning during which he recorded two strikeouts.
McFarland's dominant eighth frame saw him locate eight of 10 pitches for strikes, a particularly impressive display of efficiency. The veteran southpaw has had a couple of stumbles overall, but McFarland has mostly been a reliable bullpen workhorse for manager Mark Kotsay. Factoring in Sunday's appearance, he's already logged 11.1 innings across 16 appearances, posting a 3.97 ERA and recording four holds in addition to his one victory.

Athletics' Seth Brown: Slugs second homer in win
Brown went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in a win over the Orioles on Sunday.
Brown opened the scoring on an eventful afternoon for both teams' bats with a 409-foot shot to center in the second inning. The round tripper snapped a 13-game homerless drought for Brown, who has left the yard just twice over 86 plate appearances after averaging a homer once every 21 trips to the batter's box over the previous three seasons.

Athletics' Tyler Nevin: Leaves yard in win
Nevin went 2-for-5 with a solo home run and an additional run in a win over the Orioles on Sunday.
Nevin proved key to the Athletics' late-game rally with his seventh-inning solo shot, inching Oakland to within a run at the time. It was Nevin's second time leaving the yard in his last four games, and he extended his hitting streak to six games in the process. The 26-year-old has served as one of the most reliable bats in a highly inconsistent A's offense, now sporting a .286/.342/.400 slash line through 76 plate appearances.

Athletics' J.D. Davis: Plays in rehab game Sunday
Davis (thigh/groin) started at designated hitter for Triple-A Las Vegas against Sacramento on Sunday and went 1-for-4 with a double and a run.
Davis was given the green light to suit up Sunday after partaking in baseball activities with the Aviators on Saturday. Having apparently gotten through Sunday's contest without any issues, Davis is now slated to rejoin Oakland on Monday, when a decision on whether he'll need more rehab games or if he's ready for activation will be made.

Athletics' Kyle McCann: Blasts game-winning dinger
McCann went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run during Sunday's 7-6 win over the Orioles.
McCann's second career dinger came off Baltimore closer Craig Kimbrel in the ninth and served as the game-winner. The backup catcher has not seen many opportunities this season, accumulating only 16 at-bats thus far, but has collected two hits and a homer in two of his last three starts.

Athletics' Lucas Erceg: Earns first career save
Erceg tossed one perfect inning, striking out two to earn the save during Sunday's 7-6 win over the Orioles.
Erceg was called upon to close the door for his first career save after the A's commandeered the lead in the top of the ninth. Oakland's regular closer, Mason Miller, has been a revelation in end-game situations but was rested for a second game in a row, affording the rare save opportunity for Erceg.

Blackburn did not factor into the decision during Sunday's 7-6 win over the Orioles, allowing six runs on seven hits and one walk over four innings. He struck out five.
Blackburn was lit up by the Orioles, allowing four extra-base hits, including three home runs. He was on the hook for his second loss until the A's salvaged the come-from-behind win. Following a flawless start to the season that saw him allow no earned runs spanning 19.1 innings through his first three starts, Blackburn has progressively regressed over his next three starts, allowing 13 runs over that 15.2 inning stretch. He'll look to right the ship during his next start, tentatively slated to take place next weekend when the Miami Marlins come to Oakland for a three-game set.

Athletics' Esteury Ruiz: Back on bench Sunday
Ruiz is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Orioles.
Ruiz had started in each of the Athletics' last three games and five of the previous six contests, but he'll head to the bench Sunday. With Brent Rooker recently returning from the injured list and with Seth Brown, JJ Bleday and Lawrence Butler seemingly representing greater priorities in the outfield, Ruiz may be the odd man out for a regular spot in the lineup versus right-handed pitching.
