Rom (biceps) will be examined by Dr. Keith Meister in Dallas on Tuesday, Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.
Rom hasn't done any throwing since late March after being diagnosed with left biceps tendinitis and has not responded well to plyometric exercises. The Cardinals are hoping to get a clearer picture on Rom's status following Tuesday's visit.

Middleton recently did some long-tossing without issue and is almost ready to throw from a mound for the first time since going down with a right forearm strain in mid-March. Cardinals' Tommy Edman: Tee work from both sides of plate

Edman (wrist) took swings off a tee from both sides of the plate last week, Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.
Edman had been limited to hitting only from the right side due to lingering concerns about his surgically repaired right wrist. However, he's now progressed to hitting from both sides of the dish and has done so without any soreness. Edman will continue a hitting progression as tolerated and appears far off from a return, but he's progressing.
Cardinals' Steven Matz: Cardinals-Tigers postponed

Matz and the Cardinals won't play Monday against the Tigers after the game was postponed due to inclement weather in Detroit.
The game will be made up as part of a traditional doubleheader Tuesday. As a result of the postponement, Matz will likely just be pushed back one day in the pitching schedule to start one half of Tuesday's twin bill.

Cardinals' Ivan Herrera: Absent from lineup

Siani went 0-for-3 with one RBI, a stolen base and a run scored in Sunday's 4-2 extra-innings loss to the Mets.
Siani is hitless over his last six games (0-for-17) while drawing two walks and striking out six times in that span. For now, he's the Cardinals' starting center fielder, but he's in the lineup mostly for his defense while Dylan Carlson (shoulder) and Tommy Edman (wrist) are on the mend. Siani is slashing just .108/.233/.162 with no home runs, one RBI, nine runs scored and two stolen bases this season.

Liberatore was called on for a long-relief assignment that began in the eighth inning and ended with a walk-off home run by Mark Vientos in the 11th. This was Liberatore's longest outing of the season, and it came in a game during which the Cardinals' bullpen had multiple high-leverage relievers unavailable due to recent workloads. The southpaw now has a 3.14 ERA, 1.26 WHIP and 7:8 K:BB across 14.1 innings over 10 appearances this season. Liberatore's history as a starter will keep him in a long-relief role unless the Cardinals feel the need to swap him out for a fresher arm heading into Monday's game versus the Tigers.

Lynn walked at least three batters for the third time in his last four starts. However, the only run charged against him came on a solo home run by Francisco Lindor in the sixth. During his last four appearances, Lynn owns a 2.05 ERA with 17 strikeouts and 11 walks over 22.0 innings. He's lined up for a start against the White Sox on Saturday.
Cardinals' Dylan Carlson: Beginning rehab assignment this week

Cardinals manager Oliver Marmol said Carlson (shoulder) will report to Triple-A Memphis on Tuesday or Wednesday to begin a rehab assignment, John Denton of MLB.com reports.
Carlson is finally ready to test himself in an uncontrolled game setting after he completed an extensive ramp-up program as he works his way back from an AC joint sprain in his left shoulder, which he suffered late in spring training. Given that he's been on the 10-day injured list throughout the first month of the season, Carlson will presumably stick with Memphis throughout the coming week before potentially making his 2024 big-league debut the following week. Whenever he's activated, Carlson will likely unseat Mike Siani as the Cardinals' everyday center fielder, a role that Carlson should hold at least until Tommy Edman (wrist) is ready to come off the IL.

The Cardinals are giving Willson Contreras a day off behind the plate and having him serve as the designated hitter, so Burleson will bow out of the lineup as Ivan Herrera enters the starting nine at catcher. Romero had some control issues in spring training, but they disappeared when the games started to count. He's pitched to a 1.23 ERA, 0.55 WHIP and 16:2 K:BB over 14.2 innings this season. Romero is part of the Cardinals' high-leverage mix with 10 holds -- matching his total from his previous four seasons combined. He is unlikely to challenge Ryan Helsley for closing duties, but Romero is providing quality innings when called upon.

Kittredge has been excellent in a high-leverage role for the Cardinals. He's been scored on just once in 13 appearances, posting a 0.75 ERA, 1.00 WHIP and 13:3 K:BB through 12 innings. Manager Oliver Marmol has gone with more clearly defined roles in the bullpen this year than in previous seasons, and Kittredge has slotted in as a strong setup man in his first year with the team.
