2020 NBA Draft results: Timberwolves take Anthony Edwards at No. 1; LaMelo Ball goes No. 3 to Hornets
Recap all the highlights and analysis from the 2020 NBA Draft
The 2020 NBA Draft is officially in the books, and it did not disappoint. The Minnesota Timberwolves kept us in suspense until the final moments before the start of Wednesday's draft, but ultimately wound up selecting Georgia guard Anthony Edwards No. 1 overall. Memphis center James Wiseman and guard LaMelo Ball soon followed to the Warriors and Hornets respectively, but after that? Chaos.
Florida State forward Patrick Williams jumped all the way up to No. 4 after generally being viewed as a late lottery pick. The Phoenix Suns, with DeAndre Ayton in tow and the surprising decision to keep the cap holds of Dario Saric and Aron Baynes rather than opening up cap space, chose yet another big man in Maryland's Jalen Smith at No. 10. Meanwhile, some of the draft's most highly regarded overall prospects fell much further than expected. Tyrese Haliburton, mocked as high as No. 4 overall, landed with Sacramento at No. 12. Saddiq Bey tumbled to No. 19, and Desmond Bane, one of the best shooters in the class, just barely stayed in the first round at No. 30 to Memphis.
The rookies didn't have all of the fun, though. There was plenty of veteran movement alongside the picks. The Clippers nabbed Luke Kennard in a three-way deal that sent Landry Shamet to Brooklyn. Ricky Rubio is headed back where it all began as rejoining the Timberwolves. And in the biggest deal of the night, Dallas and Philadelphia swapped starting guards: Josh Richardson to the Mavericks, Seth Curry to the 76ers.
Free agency is on the horizon as teams will have only 36 hours to prepare for the next major offseason milestone, but for now, let's focus on the draft that was. Below you'll find our in-the-moment analysis of the 2020 NBA Draft.
