Thank you all for tuning into today's coverage of the 2024 Reese's Senior Bowl!
Senior Bowl 2024 score, standouts: These NFL Draft prospects stood out during the college all-star game
The NFL's future was on display Saturday from Mobile, Alabama
The National Team defense forced four turnovers en route to a 16-7 victory over the American Team in Saturday's Reese's Senior Bowl. New York Jets defensive coordinator Jeff Ulbrich was the winning coach after playing in this game during his own career.
South Carolina quarterback Spencer Rattler was awarded with MVP award after throwing a touchdown to Georgia wide receiver Marcus Rosemy-Jacksaint on the game's opening drive. He finished having completed all four of his passes for 65 yards and the touchdown.
Below are five other players who punctuated a great week of practice with a strong showing in Saturday's game:
Braden Fiske, DT, Florida State
Fiske finished with four tackles and 0.5 sacks, as well as 1.5 tackles for a loss. He was also a part of a Reese's Senior Bowl first, as he was asked to switch teams Saturday morning due to roster attrition. The National Team was down to three defensive linemen, so Fiske swapped teams after practicing all week with the American squad.
Emani Bailey, RB, TCU
Bailey had the first five touches of the game for the American Team. He had some rather large gaps to run through, but he showed burst and an ability to break defenders down in space. His presence was also felt in the pass game where he was given additional opportunities to make plays in space.
Aside from his contributions on offense, Bailey was making plays through the final whistle. On an 84-yard interception return, the TCU running back tracked down Washington State defensive back Chau Smith-Wade at the 1-yard line.
Chau Smith-Wade, CB, Washington State
It was a big fourth period for Smith-Wade as he secured not one, but two interceptions. The first was nearly returned for a touchdown. It came at an opportunistic time because, after recording three total interceptions in 2021 and 2022, the Denver native had zero in his fourth and final season with the Cougars. He also showed awareness getting up to return the interception after initially taking it to the ground.
Trevin Wallace, LB, Kentucky
Wallace made multiple stops in the backfield Saturday. He showed a diverse skillset shooting gaps, dropping in coverage and standing up rushers. At 6-foot-1, 244 pounds, Wallace led all American Team linebackers this week by running 19.42 miles per hour, according to Zebra Sports. Wallace is one of a handful of true juniors to appear in this game; the first year of eligibility for juniors at the Reese's Senior Bowl.
North Carolina linebacker Cedric Gray is another who stood out at the position.
Marcus Harris, EDGE, Auburn
The Kansas transfer registered seven sacks this season, which is more than his prior four seasons combined. His reign of terror continued Saturday, as he spent as much time in the American Team's backfield as their own running backs. It can be difficult to manufacture energy in an all-star game setting, but Harris brought enough to share with the class.
What's next?
NFL personnel flooded the city of Mobile, Alabama, this week for a glimpse of the prospects jockeying to hear their names called in April's NFL Draft. It is an opportunity for decision makers to interview and size these players up in person. What is next? The NFL Scouting Combine will take place in Indianapolis yet again later this month and into March. Each player will then have the opportunity to take part in a Pro Day at their respective schools while NFL teams conduct 30 prospect visits and interviews.
The 2024 NFL Draft will begin April 25 in Detroit.
The game ends with the National Team leading 16-7. South Carolina quarterback Spencer Rattler was awarded with the MVP award. Stay tuned for more takeaways from this afternoon's game.
Pride on the line for the American Team defense on that goal line stand. They stood tall for a few plays but gave up the score on third down. Multiple SEC guys controlling the line of scrimmage, including Texas A&M defensive tackle McKinnley Jackson, Mississippi State linebacker Bookie Watson and Kentucky linebacker Trevin Wallace.
Looked like the WR stopped running there -- amazing display of athleticism and return skills by Wazzu's Chau Smith-Wade. (give him the touchdown!)
Milton's decision-making is still iffy, and his miss his high. Doesn't always read coverage perfectly. Incredible arm talent. Plus footwork. Athletic too.
Joe Milton won't be for everyone, but I noticed much better accuracy in 2023 as Tennessee's full-time starter. And the tools he possesses are through the roof.
GIVE US A JOE MILTON ROCKET LAUNCH
Iowa -- elite at punting
That's Tez Waliker's speciality -- getting down the field. Sticky coverage though. And Hartman didn't have enough air under that pass.
Let's get a Joe Milton rocket launch into the end zone here.
Ben Sinnott was such a reliable weapon underneath and at the intermediate level at Kansas State
Touche, Josh
Jim is looking good for being around Reese's all the time. I don't know if I have the same will power.
Reese's has really taken the Senior Bowl to the next level exposure-wise over the past decade. Former executive director Phil Savage was integral to that, and current executive director Jim Nagy has done a marvelous job scouting for the event and allowing hundreds and hundreds of media members down to Mobile every year.
Josh -- on McConkey's he's a little bit of a difficult prospect to read because he was like a part-time player this season at Georgia. Not much volume. What stood out to me on him -- beyond the route running, he has some athletic juice. I think he should test reasonably well at the combine.
To Josh's point -- the QBs haven't been too sharp in this game. Missed some open receivers.
I drastically underrated Ladd McConkey when I watched last year's tape, Traps. He is one that I need to go back over before the Combine.
Ladd McConkey, route salesman
There are some taller wide receivers in this game with Marcus Rosemy-Jacksaint, Tez Walker and Javon Baker. These passing attacks have basically boiled down to whether or not those guys can go up and win a jump ball; not a lot of success over the middle.
Insane athleticism in the McCaffrey family, and my favorite fact is it's actually CMC's grandfather on his mother's side, who was the best athlete in the family. David Sime. Played football and baseball at Duke and was an Olympic gold-medal sprinter.
That's a monster kick, even by NFL standards. 52 yards into the wind. Right down the pipe.
I've liked what BYU RT Kingsley Suamataia has shown this afternoon. He's a rare OT prospect who's further ahead as a pass-blocker than he is blocking for the run.
Auburn DT Marcus Harris has turned some heads in this game -- up the field penetration is the name of the game on the inside of the defensive line.
Charles Davis said he got former Titans/Bills/Commanders/Eagles LB Zach Brown in Cedric Gray. I agree. Both are see-ball, get-ball LBs with serious juice.
North Carolina LB Cedric Gray offering a sneak peek of his leaping abilities as he climbs the ladder to break up a pass from South Alabama quarterback Carter Bradley.
And there's a play in coverage from Gray -- hops galore
North Carolina LB Cedric Gray didn't have quite as good of a 2023 as the season before, but he's a young, experienced, coverage type at off-ball linebacker. Feels like someone who'll go outside of the first few rounds but be a future, reliable starter.
Troy EDGE Javon Solomon is a fun player on the perimeter -- smaller size but really gets after it as a rusher and against the ground game
Bills legends Cornelius Bennett -- Thurman Thomas, part of the 75th Senior Bowl team
Sloppy start to the second half thus far. The pass rush is getting home for each of these teams, particularly Auburn's Marcus Harris. Houston Christian edge rusher Jalyx Hunt also involved.
