  • Red Wings' Ville Husso: Gets no help in return to Wings

Husso turned aside 20 of 23 shots in Saturday's 4-0 loss to the Rangers, with New York's final goal getting scored into an empty net. Making his first NHL appearances since Oct. 10, Husso got very little help from his teammates as the Blueshirts scored on the power play midway through the first period and never looked back. Husso was called up from AHL Grand Rapids on an emergency basis with Alex Lyon (lower body) unavailable and Cam Talbot having played the night before, and he'll likely stick around as Talbot's backup until Lyon is cleared for action. Husso has given up seven goals on 37 shots for Detroit this season, but he's posted a 1.23 GAA and .958 save percentage in three appearances for Grand Rapids.

  • Red Wings' Ville Husso: Tending twine Saturday

Husso will be between the home pipes against the Rangers on Saturday, Helene St. James of the Detroit Free Press reports. Husso was recalled under emergency conditions after Alex Lyon, who was originally scheduled to start versus the Maple Leafs on Friday, suffered a lower-body injury. With a back-to-back on the schedule, the Red Wings will turn to Cam Talbot for Friday's contest before pressing Husso into service versus the Rangers on Saturday. In his lone NHL appearance this year, the 29-year-old HUsso gave up four goals on 14 shots (.714 save percentage) before being pulled from the crease versus the Penguins on Oct. 10. Once Lyon is cleared to return, Husso will likely be shipped back to the minors.

  • Red Wings' Ville Husso: Called up from minors

Husso was recalled from AHL Grand Rapids under emergency conditions Friday. According to Helene St. James of the Detroit Free Press, the Red Wings are dealing with a flu bug going around the team. As such, the decision to bring up Husso could be an indication that Alex Lyon, who is scheduled to start, or Cam Talbot is under the weather ahead of Friday's matchup with Toronto. Either way, fantasy players shouldn't be expecting Husso to feature against the Leafs on Friday -- though with a back-to-back, it's not out of the question that he would be pressed into service versus the Rangers at home Saturday.

  • Red Wings' Ville Husso: Lands on waivers

Husso was placed on waivers Sunday, Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet reports. Husso allowed four goals on 14 shots in Thursday's 6-3 loss to Pittsburgh before being replaced by Cam Talbot early in the second period. If the 29-year-old Husso goes unclaimed from the waiver wire, he could head to AHL Grand Rapids. Detroit still has Talbot and Alex Lyon on the roster to occupy the top two goalie spots.

  • Red Wings' Ville Husso: Stumbles out of gate

Husso allowed four goals on 14 shots Thursday before being replaced by Cam Talbot early in the second period. Detroit lost 6-3 to Pittsburgh. Sure, the Wings D was porous, but at some point, Husso needs to step into the role or leave. It took less than a period for Wings fans to explode in fury on social media with this performance. Husso showed such promise in St. Louis, but has never been able to fulfill it in Detroit. Beware your fantasy bottom line if you rely on him. He could end up at the end of the bench... or worse.

  • Red Wings' Ville Husso: Set to start Thursday

Husso will serve as the starting goaltender in Thursday's Opening Night matchup at home against the Penguins, Max Bultman of The Athletic reports. Husso struggled during the 2023-24 campaign, posting a 9-5-2 record, 3.55 GAA and .892 save percentage over 19 appearances. However, he had a strong preseason this year and will be in the home crease for the Red Wings' regular-season opener. It seems likely that Cam Talbot will still be the team's No. 1 option at goalie this year, but Husso could make a push from playing time if he has a bounce-back campaign.

  • Red Wings' Ville Husso: Best player on ice

Husso stopped 30 shots in a 3-2 preseason loss to Toronto on Saturday. Husso was Detroit's best player in the game, which was even more impressive because the Leafs dressed a star-laden roster. It was Husso's second game of the week, which could be seen as preparation for the start of the regular season. He's put the injury woes that kept him out of two-thirds of Detroit's games last season behind him.

  • Red Wings' Ville Husso: Slated to start

Husso will defend the road net Saturday in preseason action against Toronto, according to Ansar Khan of MLive.com. Husso stopped 43 shots in a 2-1 exhibition win over Pittsburgh on Tuesday. He will compete with Cam Talbot and Alex Lyon for playing time during the 2024-25 season.

  • Red Wings' Ville Husso: Nabs exhibition win

Husso turned aside 43 of 44 shots in Tuesday's 2-1 win preseason win over the Penguins. Husso is currently jostling for positioning on Detroit's goaltender depth chart with Cam Talbot and Alex Lyon. Husso's solid performance in Tuesday's contest certainly helps his case moving forward. The 29-year-old went 9-5-2 with an .892 save percentage and a 3.55 GAA in 19 regular-season appearances in 2023-24.

  • Red Wings' Ville Husso: Saturday's game postponed

Husso and the Red Wings will not play the Penguins on Saturday as originally scheduled. The Penguins had travel issues getting to Detroit, causing the game to be officially postponed. Per the Red Wings, the game has been rescheduled for Monday. Husso will likely play Monday, either in the rescheduled game at home or in Buffalo, as the Red Wings will go with a split-squad schedule that day.

Husso will guard the home net in Saturday's matchup with the Penguins, Ansar Khan of MLive.com reports. It'll be the second preseason start for Husso, who stopped 15 of 17 shots in a 4-2 win over Chicago on Wednesday. The 29-year-old netminder is expected to compete for starts this campaign with Cam Talbot and Alex Lyon in Detroit. Husso went 9-5-2 with an .892 save percentage and a 3.55 GAA in 19 regular-season appearances in 2023-24.

  • Red Wings' Ville Husso: Gets starting nod Wednesday

Husso will be between the pipes on the road against the Blackhawks on Wednesday, Ansar Khan of MLive.com reports. Husso played in just one NHL game from mid-December to the end of the season last year due to a lower-body injury. While his injury concerns appear to be behind him, early signs point to the Red Wings deploying a three-goalie unit with Cam Talbot and Alex Lyon in the mix. As such, Husso probably won't get enough opportunities to make him fantasy viable in most formats.

  • Red Wings' Ville Husso: Ready to rock in 2024-25

General manager Steve Yzerman said Friday that Husso (lower body) will be ready for the start of the 2024-25 season, Sean Shapiro of EP Rinkside reports. Husso played only once after Dec. 20, as he suffered a recurrence Feb. 13 when he gave up one goal on seven shots before being removed against the Oilers. He is now considered healthy and is set to battle Alex Lyon for the No. 1 job with the Red Wings next season, though Yzerman did say that he will look at the goalie market come the start of free agency.

  • Red Wings' Ville Husso: Back from conditioning

Husso (lower body) was recalled from his conditioning stint with AHL Grand Rapids on Sunday, per CapFriendly. Husso reportedly suffered a setback during his conditioning loan, so his status for the rest of the regular season is still unknown. The 29-year-old has appeared in just one game since Dec. 18 while dealing with multiple injuries. He's 9-5-2 with a 3.55 GAA and an .892 save percentage in 19 NHL games this season.

  • Red Wings' Ville Husso: Suffers setback

Husso (lower body) suffered a setback in his return from a lower-body injury in warmups with AHL Grand Rapids on Friday, Helene St. James of the Detroit Free Press reports. Husso has made just one appearance since Dec. 18, aggravating his lower-body injury Feb. 13 versus Edmonton. It appears unlikely now that Husso will return before the end of the regular season. The 29-year-old goaltender went 9-5-2 this season with an .892 save percentage and a 3.55 GAA.

  • Red Wings' Ville Husso: Sent to AHL for conditioning

Husso (lower body) was loaned to AHL Grand Rapids on Monday for a conditioning assignment. Husso's only appearance since Dec. 18 lasted for just 8:48 of ice time against Edmonton on Feb. 13. He has posted a 9-5-2 record this season with a 3.55 GAA and an .892 save percentage in 19 appearances with the Red Wings. Alex Lyon and James Reimer have been handling the goaltending duties for Detroit during Husso's extended absence.

  • Red Wings' Ville Husso: At practice Monday

Husso (lower body) participated in practice Monday for the first time since getting hurt against Edmonton on Feb. 13, Ansar Khan of MLive.com reports. While Husso is practicing, head coach Derek Lalonde told Ansar Khan of MLive.com that the goalie isn't much closer to return and remains week-to-week. Considering he has made just one appearance in goal over the Red Wings' last 30 contests, fantasy managers probably shouldn't be expecting him to be immediately thrust into the crease or to supplant Alex Lyon as the No. 1 option for Detroit even when he's cleared to play.

  • Red Wings' Ville Husso: Week-to-week with lower-body injury

Husso is week-to-week with a lower-body injury. Husso suffered the lower-body injury just 8:48 into Tuesday's 8-4 loss to Edmonton. It was his first game with the Red Wings since Dec. 18 due to a different lower-body injury. Husso has a 9-5-2 record, 3.55 GAA and .892 save percentage in 19 appearances in 2023-24. James Reimer is projected to primarily back up Alex Lyon during Husso's absence.

  • Red Wings' Ville Husso: Hurt in Tuesday's game

Husso was hurt when the Oilers scored their first goal in Tuesday's game, Jason Gregor of Sports 1440 Edmonton reports. Per the team, Husso sustained a lower-body injury. Husso was replaced by Alex Lyon immediately following Leon Draisaitl's tally. This was Husso's first game since Dec. 18, but he lasted just 8:48, stopping six of seven shots. If Husso has aggravated a previous lower-body injury, Lyon and James Reimer will likely take over as the goaltending duo for the Red Wings.
