The No. 1 seeds for the 2023 NCAA Women's Basketball Tournament:
- South Carolina Gamecocks (No. 1 overall)
- Indiana Hoosiers
- Virginia Tech Hokies
- Stanford Cardinal
Selection Sunday is here and the 68-team bracket for the 2023 edition of the NCAA Women's Basketball Tournament is here. Teams learned their postseason fates on Sunday night, and while the No. 1 overall seed wasn't in doubt, there was some drama as to who would join Dawn Staley's bunch on the top line.
The South Carolina Gamecocks (32-0, 16-0 SEC) are the only undefeated college basketball team in the nation and are riding a 38-game winning streak dating back to last year -- including their 2022 NCAA Tournament championship. Dawn Staley's squad has been ranked No. 1 all season and was a lock for the No. 1 overall seed in this year's competition.
Joining South Carolina (Greenville 1) as the No. 1 seeds are Indiana (Greenville 2), Virginia Tech (Seattle 3) and Stanford (Seattle 4). Iowa, UConn, Utah and Maryland were also in the mix for a top seed, but wound up on the No. 2 see line.
The Big Ten were among the big winners, with four teams hosting opening-weekend sub-regionals and the ACC put the most teams in the NCAA Tournament with eight. The Pac-12, Big Ten and SEC each got seven teams in the field.
