The Cubs optioned Canario to Triple-A Iowa on Tuesday, Andy Martinez of Marquee Sports Network reports.
He's clearing out to make room for Cody Bellinger's (ribs) return from the injured list. Canario went 6-for-22 with one home run during his brief time up with the big club.

Canario is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Mets.
Canario is back on the bench Wednesday after going 1-for-2 at the dish in Tuesday's 4-2 loss. He's now been excluded from the lineup five times in the past six games and doesn't look as though he'll benefit much from the absences of fellow outfielders Cody Bellinger (ribs) and Seiya Suzuki (oblique).
Canario went 2-for-6 with a walk, a solo home run and an additional run scored across both games of Saturday's doubleheader against the Marlins.
Canario started in left field and batted ninth in both contests, and he delivered his first 2024 home run in the nightcap. With Ian Happ (hamstring) and Seiya Suzuki (oblique) both out of the lineup for the immediate future, Canario should see more playing time in the short term. The 23-year-old will eventually settle back into a reserve role or return to the minors, but he has a chance to make a strong impression while he's in this elevated role.

Canario was called up from Triple-A Iowa on Monday, and he'll now draw his first major-league start of the 2024 campaign. The 23-year-old produced a .269/.377/.481 slash line with seven extra-base hits, including two homers, over 52 at-bats with Iowa so far this season. With Seiya Suzuki (oblique) expected to miss at least four weeks, Canario will look to carve out a consistent role with the big-league club for the time being.

Canario will be recalled from Triple-A Iowa prior to Monday's game in Arizona, Jon Morosi of MLB Network reports.
The Cubs have yet to make the transaction official, so it's unclear whose spot Canario will be taking on the 26-man active roster. The 23-year-old is off to a nice start with Iowa, slashing .269/.377/.481 with two home runs in 13 contests. Canario will likely operate in a reserve outfielder role during his time with the Cubs.
