  • White Sox's Mike Clevinger: Headed to IL with sore elbow

The White Sox placed Clevinger on the 15-day injured list Tuesday, retroactive to May 25, with right elbow inflammation, Daryl Van Schouwen of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.

Clevinger had been slated to start Tuesday's game against the Blue Jays but has landed on the IL instead. It's not yet clear how serious the injury is or how much time Clevinger might miss. Jake Woodford is coming up from Triple-A Charlotte to start Tuesday, and he could be needed for multiple outings.

  • White Sox's Mike Clevinger: Coughs up season-high five runs

Clevinger (0-3) took the loss against the Orioles on Thursday, allowing five runs on seven hits and three walks while striking out five over 4.2 innings.

Clevinger went 1-2-3 through Baltimore's lineup over the first two innings before he began to unravel in the third, surrendering two hits and two walks in the frame. Things only got worse in the fourth when the right-hander gave up a leadoff homer to Anthony Santander, followed by a three-run shot by Jorge Mateo. Clevinger has lasted just 4.2 innings in each of his last three starts, posting five strikeouts in each of those outings. He's also given up at least three runs in three of his four starts and is still looking for his first win on the campaign.

  • White Sox's Mike Clevinger: Stuck with second loss

Clevinger (0-2) took the loss Friday, giving up three runs on five hits and two walks over 4.2 innings as the White Sox were downed 4-2 by the Yankees. He struck out five.

The right-hander tossed 78 pitches (47 strikes) before exiting, failing to complete five innings for the third straight start since joining Chicago's rotation. Clevinger offers little fantasy appeal until he at least begins lasting long enough to qualify for a win, although the White Sox's struggling offense won't give him many opportunities for wins anyway. Clevinger will take a 5.56 ERA, 1.85 WHIP and 10:6 K:BB through 11.1 innings into his next outing, which lines up to come next week in Toronto.

  • White Sox's Mike Clevinger: Shows improvement in second start

Clevinger allowed one run on four hits and no walks while striking out five batters over 4.2 innings in a no-decision against Cleveland on Saturday.

Clevinger struggled mightily in his season debut Monday, giving up four runs (three earned) on six hits and four walks over two innings. The veteran looked much better Saturday, yielding just a fourth-inning run while cutting the free passes entirely out of his stat line. Clevinger needed just one more out to qualify for the win, but he was pulled for a lefty reliever after giving up a single to the final batter he faced in the fifth frame. Despite that minor disappointment, this was a promising outing considering his disastrous previous start, and it should help him as he works to push up his pitch count after missing spring training and signing with Chicago in early April.
