Arraez went 4-for-5 with a double, one RBI and one run scored in Thursday's 6-4 extra-inning win over the Reds. Arraez has multiple hits in each his last eight games, going 20-for-38 (.526) with three extra-base hits in that span. The infielder played at first base Thursday, swapping places with Jake Cronenworth on the right side of the infield. Arraez is up to a .341/.382/.422 slash line with one home run, 12 RBI, 31 runs scored and three stolen bases over 226 plate appearances. He sees a majority of the playing time at the keystone due to Xander Bogaerts (shoulder) being out indefinitely and should continue to thrive atop the order for a team that has little trouble putting the ball in play.... Padres' Luis Arraez: Four hits including first homer
Arraez went 4-for-5 with a home run and two RBI in Wednesday's 7-3 win over the Reds. The 27-year-old led off the game with his first homer of the season as he produced his seventh straight multi-hit performance. Arraez has been raking since being traded to the Padres, slashing .391/.425/.478 in 73 plate appearances, and with Xander Bogaerts (shoulder) facing a lengthy absence, he should be locked in as San Diego's everyday second baseman.... Padres' Luis Arraez: Taking seat Wednesday
Arraez is absent from the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Rockies. Arraez will get his second day off since he was acquired from the Marlins earlier this month. The Padres will have Manny Machado fill the designated hitter spot while Donovan Solano covers third base. Jurickson Profar will bat leadoff in Arraez's stead.... See More ... See Less -
Padres' Luis Arraez: Idle Tuesday
Arraez is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against Chicago. After starting and batting leadoff in each of his first three appearances with the Padres, Arraez will get the day off Tuesday. While it's possible Arraez will cede work against lefties -- the Padres are facing southpaw Shota Imanaga on Tuesday -- Arraez was part of the team's lineup Monday against Justin Steele, who's also left-handed. Manny Machado will DH on Tuesday while Donovan Solano starts at third base.... See More ... See Less -
Padres' Luis Arraez: Four hits in team debut
Arraez went 4-for-6 with a double, an RBI and two runs scored in Saturday's win over the Diamondbacks. Arraez wasted no time in establishing a good first impression with his new team, smacking a leadoff double on the second pitch he saw from Brandon Pfaadt in the opening frame before coming around to score San Diego's first run of the contest. The newly acquired infielder would add another three singles on the night, with the latter one leading to an eight-run seventh inning for the Padres. It marked Arraez's second game this season with four hits, and he's now registered at least one knock in seven straight.... See More ... See Less -
Padres' Luis Arraez: Headed to San Diego
The Marlins traded Arraez to the Padres on Friday in exchange for Dillon Head, Woo-suk Go, Nathan Martorella and Jakob Marsee, Craig Mish of the Miami Herald reports. It's not immediately clear how Arraez will fit into the Padres' lineup, as San Diego already has a strong infield unit that includes Jake Cronenworth, Xander Bogaerts, Ha-Seong Kim and Manny Machado, but it's possible Arraez fills in as the Friars' primary designated hitter. The 27-year-old is slashing .299/.347/.372 across 148 plate appearances so far this season, and his departure from Miami leaves Vidal Brujan as the favorite to take over as the Marlins' main second baseman.... Marlins' Luis Arraez: Three hits in loss
Arraez went 3-for-4 with a run scored in Monday's loss to the Giants. All three hits were singles, but that's par for the course for Arraez. The reigning NL batting champ had a slow start to the season but quickly found his form, and he's hit safely in five straight games while going 8-for-20. The surge has lifted Arraez's slash line to .284/.368/.343 with 12 runs scored, but he has zero homers or steals and only one RBI.... See More ... See Less -
Marlins' Luis Arraez: Four hits in win
Arraez went 4-for-5 with a triple and three runs scored in Sunday's win over the Cardinals. Arraez's bat finally got going after he entered Sunday's action hitting just .194 through nine games. It was his 14th career 4-hit game though he is still in search of his first RBI on the season. Arraez has scored nine runs while batting atop the Marlins' order, which is currently tied for ninth best in baseball.... See More ... See Less -
Marlins' Luis Arraez: Reaches base five times
Arraez went 2-for-2 with three walks and a run scored during Monday's loss to the Angels. Arraez had an uncharacteristic opening series against the Pirates, going just 2-for-18 in the four-game set. Monday's performance was his first multi-hit effort of the year and looked much more like the elite bat-to-ball star that fantasy managers are used to. He's registered a .360 OBP through five games despite the slow start.... See More ... See Less -
Marlins' Luis Arraez: Racking up hits this spring
Arraez went 2-for-3 with a double in Saturday's Grapefruit League game against the Phillies. It's the fifth time in his last six spring games that Arraez has banged out multiple hits. The reigning NL batting champ has a .382 average in camp (13-for-34) with five doubles and a 0:3 BB:K, and Arraez is locked into the leadoff spot for the Marlins after posting a .354/.393/.469 slash line with a career-high 10 homers and 69 RBI in 2023.... Marlins' Luis Arraez: Loses arbitration case
Arraez lost his arbitration hearing with the Marlins on Wednesday and will earn $10.6 million in salary for the 2024 season, Daniel Alvarez-Montes of ElExtraBase.com reports. Coming off a 2023 season in which he won the National League batting crown with a .354 average, Arraez filed for $12 million, but an arbitrator ruled in favor of the Marlins. The $10.6 million salary still represents a $4.5 million pay increase from 2023 for Arraez, who is set to go through the arbitration process one more time next offseason before becoming a free agent following the 2025 campaign. Arraez will head into his second season as Miami's everyday second baseman, and while he once again projects to rank among the league leaders in batting average, his paucity of power and speed put a ceiling on his overall fantasy value.... Marlins' Luis Arraez: Batting leadoff in Game 1
Arraez (ankle) is starting at second base and batting leadoff Tuesday in Game 1 of the NL Wild Card Series against the Phillies. Arraez played only one full game over the final two weeks of the regular season because of a left ankle injury, but he's ready to rock for the Marlins leading into their best-of-three NL Wild Card Series matchup at Philadelphia. The 26-year-old paced all qualified MLB hitters in batting average this season with a mark of .354.... See More ... See Less -
Marlins' Luis Arraez: Expected to be ready for Game 1
Marlins manager Skip Schumaker said Monday that he expects Arraez (ankle) to be ready for Game 1 of the National League Wild Card Series against the Phillies on Tuesday, Todd Zolecki of MLB.com reports. Arraez hasn't started a game in more than a week after aggravating a left ankle sprain on Sept. 23, but he did contribute a pinch-hit single off the bench this past Friday and is expected to be in the Marlins' Game 1 lineup. The two-time batting champ finished the 2023 campaign having slashed .354/.393/.469 with 10 home runs.... See More ... See Less -
Marlins' Luis Arraez: Sitting again Sunday
Arraez (ankle) is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Pirates, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports. Arraez made an appearance off the bench Friday but will be absent from the starting nine for the seventh consecutive game due to an ankle sprain. The Marlins have already secured their spot in the playoffs and are likely hoping the All-Star second baseman will be available for Game 1 of the NL Wild Card Series on Tuesday.... See More ... Marlins' Luis Arraez: Still sidelined
Arraez (ankle) remains on the bench for Saturday's game against the Pirates, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports. Arraez was able to appear off the bench Friday and grab a single in his first action since the previous Saturday as he nurses a left ankle sprain. He could be available in a similar capacity Saturday, but it will be Jon Berti who starts at second base.... See More ... See Less -
Marlins' Luis Arraez: Still out Friday
Arraez (ankle) isn't in the Marlins' lineup Friday against Pittsburgh, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports. As the Marlins continue to fight for the third NL Wild Card spot, Arraez will miss his fourth consecutive start since aggravating a left ankle sprain Saturday against the Brewers. Jon Berti will start at second base and bat sixth.... See More ... See Less -
Marlins' Luis Arraez: Remains sidelined Thursday
Arraez (ankle) remains out of the lineup Thursday versus the Mets. Arraez has now started only two of the Marlins' last seven games, at a crucial time as they look to claim the third NL wild-card spot. He sprained his left ankle during an infield drill last Tuesday and then aggravated the injury Saturday when he slipped on the dugout steps in Miami. Xavier Edwards is covering second base and batting ninth in Thursday's series finale against New York.... See More ... See Less -
Marlins' Luis Arraez: Held out of Game 2
Arraez (ankle) won't start in the second game of Wednesday's doubleheader with the Mets, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports. Arraez was also held out of the first game Wednesday, and he still has yet to appear in a game since injuring his ankle Saturday against Milwaukee. Xavier Edwards will start at second base and bat ninth while Arraez continues to heal.... See More ... See Less -
Marlins' Luis Arraez: Out for first game Wednesday
Arraez (ankle) remains out of the lineup for the first game of Wednesday's doubleheader versus the Mets, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports. Arraez had been set to miss Tuesday's contest before it was rained out and is not in there for the makeup game, either. He hasn't played since Sept. 23 because of a left ankle sprain, and it's not clear whether he might have a shot to participate in Wednesday's nightcap. Jon Berti is at second base and batting fifth for the first game.... See More ... See Less -
Marlins' Luis Arraez: Out again with ankle injury
Arraez (ankle) remains out of the lineup Tuesday versus the Mets. Arraez sprained his left ankle one week ago while taking pregame infield practice and then aggravated the injury Saturday when he slipped on the dugout steps in Miami. Jon Berti will play second base and fifth Tuesday at Citi Field.... See More ... See Less
