Player Outlook
Julio Rodriguez followed up with his excellent rookie season with an even more productive sophomore season excelling in all five scoring categories on his way to finishing as the 8th most valuable fantasy player in standard formats in 2023. Rodriguez was the only player in the American League to hit at least 30 homers, both score and drive in over 100, while also stealing more than 30 bags while Acuna Jr bested him in every category overall. That said, the youngster is still prone to slumps. He hit below .250 in 3 of the 6 months and just 3 of his homers and 21 of his RBIs came in high leverage situations. A monster second half got him to his final numbers, and he really caught his stride once he was left in the second spot of the lineup behind Crawford's on base percentage. You should expect more of the same from Rodriguez in 2024 with fewer slumps in between bursts of awesomeness as he continues to mature as a hitter.

  • Mariners' Julio Rodriguez: Swipes another pair of bags Monday

Rodriguez went 2-for-4 with a run and two stolen bases in Monday's 3-2 victory over Houston. Rodriguez scored Seattle's second run in the first inning and padded his stat line with a pair of steals in the seventh. The star outfielder has four thefts over his past two contests following a 16-game stretch without any steals from May 9 to May 25. Though he's been pretty quiet with a .265/.309/.342 slash line on the season, Rodriguez has built some momentum in going 6-for-13 with two homers, five RBI, four runs and four stolen bases over his past three games.

  • Mariners' Julio Rodriguez: Does it all Sunday

Rodriguez went 3-for-5 with a home run, four RBI, two runs scored and two stolen bases in Sunday's 9-5 win against Washington. Rodriguez did it all in this one, establishing a season-best with four RBI and recording a steal for the first time since May 8. The 23-year-old has largely been a disappointment this season, but performances such as this are a reminder of his incredible versatility. With home runs in consecutive games, Rodriguez might finally be heating up for fantasy managers.

  • Mariners' Julio Rodriguez: Pops third homer

Rodriguez went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Saturday's 3-1 loss to the Nationals. He provided the Mariners' lone run with his third homer of the season and first since May 12. Rodriguez has been one of the biggest fantasy disappointments through two months of the 2024 campaign -- even after Saturday's homer, his OPS sits at .618, exactly 200 points below his mark from last season. Manager Scott Servais recently moved Rodriguez down to the No. 6 spot in the lineup, and it looks like that's where the 23-year-old will remain until his bat gets going.

  • Mariners' Julio Rodriguez: Batting sixth Thursday

Rodriguez will start in center field and bat sixth in Thursday's contest versus the Yankees. For the first time this season, Rodriguez won't be batting either first or second for Seattle. Rodriguez is hitting .325/.357/.425 over his last 10 games but has gone just 1-for-12 at the dish in the first three games of the series against the Yankees. He's sporting a disappointing .630 OPS on the season.

  • Mariners' Julio Rodriguez: Extends hitting streak Saturday

Rodriguez went 2-for-5 with a run in a win over the Orioles on Saturday, extending his hitting streak to six games. Much like his season as a whole, Rodriguez's night was a bit of a mixed bag, as he also struck out in his other three plate appearances. Nevertheless, the talented outfielder now boasts a .417 average (10-for-24) during his aforementioned six-game streak, although eight of those hits have been singles. Rodriguez's .269 season average is solid enough, but both his .318 on-base percentage and .330 slugging percentage are notably behind his career norms.

  • Mariners' Julio Rodriguez: Homers and doubles in win

Rodriguez went 2-for-3 with a two-run homer, a double, a walk and two runs scored in Sunday's 8-4 win over the Athletics. Rodriguez connected for his second home run of the season on a two-run blast off Alex Wood in the second. He later doubled off the top of the wall to begin the fifth and merely just missed another home run. Rodriguez was the only Mariner with multiple extra-base hits in the game and has been seeing the ball much better lately, with the last six batted balls for him all traveling at least 100 mph. The 23-year-old has endured some struggles at the plate this season but is now slashing .255/.310/.323 with 13 RBI, 16 runs, nine steals and an 11:50 BB:K in 174 plate appearances.

  • Mariners' Julio Rodriguez: On base thrice in Tuesday's win

Rodriguez went 1-for-3 with a single, two walks, a stolen base and a run in a win over the Twins on Tuesday. Rodriguez deployed the small-ball strategy to great effectiveness Tuesday, pushing his OBP for the season back over the .300 mark (.309) in the process. The steal was Rodriguez's eighth of the season in 10 attempts; however, he's still sitting on just a single home run and five extra-base hits overall in 152 plate appearances after averaging one XBH every 10.1 trips to the batter's box a season ago. Both Rodriguez's barrel (6.4 percent) and hard-hit (30.9 percent) rates have taken notable dips from their respective 11.9 percent and 38.87 percent figures in 2023, partly explaining the power drought.

  • Mariners' Julio Rodriguez: Three hits in Wednesday's loss

Rodriguez went 3-for-5 with a double and a run scored in Wednesday's 5-2 loss to Atlanta. After going 0-for-8 in the first two games of the series, Rodriguez's bat woke up against Chris Sale. The 23-year-old outfielder has only had one sustained hot streak so far in 2024, but he's capable of sparking another one at any time. Through 129 plate appearances, Rodriguez is slashing .270/.310/.328 with one homer, seven steals, 11 RBI and 12 runs.

  • Mariners' Julio Rodriguez: Puts tally in home-run column

Rodriguez went 1-for-3 with a two-run home run during Tuesday's 4-0 win over the Rangers. After launching 60 combined homers in his first two MLB seasons, Rodriguez was homerless through 22 games in 2024 before tagging Dane Dunning for a two-run shot Tuesday. Despite his lack of long balls, Rodriguez has been a strong fantasy producer, having racked up five multi-hit games and four stolen bases in his last seven appearances.

  • Mariners' Julio Rodriguez: Remains hot during doubleheader

Rodriguez went a combined 4-for-9 with an RBI single over the two games of Sunday's doubleheader against the Rockies. Although there were no extra-base hits involved, Rodriguez continued to be an on-base machine Sunday, one day after rapping out four singles and recording two steals in a shutout victory over Colorado. The talented outfielder has now hit safely in six straight games and has five consecutive multi-hit efforts, raising his average 90 points to .276 in the process. Rodriguez has definitely had some luck shine on him during that stretch, however, as he sports an astronomical .650 BABIP after coming into the sample with a .289 figure dating back to the beginning of the season.

  • Mariners' Julio Rodriguez: Two hits, steal Tuesday

Rodriguez went 2-for-5 with a stolen base and a run in Tuesday's 3-1 win over the Reds. Rodriguez recorded his second multi-hit game of the season and was able to steal a bag for the second time in as many games. He struck out three times and now has 11 strikeouts over his last 23 plate appearances in what's been an extremely frustrating first couple of weeks of the season for the 23-year-old. He's now slashing .206/.260/.221 with just one extra-base hit, five RBI, six runs, four steals and a 4:25 BB:K in 73 plate appearances.

  • Mariners' Julio Rodriguez: Plates pair in win

Rodriguez went 1-for-4 with a two-run single in a win over the Cubs on Friday. Rodriguez's slash line still sits at an ugly .200/.254/.218, but he's now hit safely in three straight games and five of his last six overall courtesy of his timely two-run single in the fourth inning Friday. Rodriguez is mired in a 13-game streak without an extra-base hit, however, as the double he laced in his first at-bat of the season remains the only knock beyond a single that he's produced.

  • Mariners' Julio Rodriguez: Swipes second bag Monday

Rodriguez went 1-for-3 with a stolen base and a walk in a win over the Guardians on Monday. The talented outfielder has managed to hit safely in four of the season's first five games, although he hasn't recorded an extra-base hit outside of his Opening Day double against the Red Sox. Rodriguez made two stellar defensive plays in the one-run victory and already has two stolen bases when factoring in Monday's swipe. Given his body of work over his first two MLB seasons, there's every reason to believe his power stroke will begin to emerge in relatively short order.

  • Mariners' Julio Rodriguez: Productive in low-scoring win

Rodriguez went 1-for-3 with a stolen base and a walk in a win over the Red Sox on Friday. The Mariners cobbled together just four hits in the 1-0 win, but Rodriguez still managed to put together a serviceable offensive performance. The talented outfielder, who finished Cactus League play with a .394 average over 41 plate appearances, has opened the regular season by hitting safely in each of the first two games after also lacing a double on Opening Day.

  • Mariners' Julio Rodriguez: Slight tweaks in mechanics

Rodriguez, who went 0-for-2 in his Cactus League debut Saturday against the Athletics, noted after the game that he's made slight changes to his stance and swing since last season, Daniel Kramer of MLB.com reports. Rodriguez logged only three innings in his first spring appearance, and he won't be back on the field until Tuesday following a team off day Monday. However, the talented outfielder already began displaying some of the subtle modifications he's made since the end of last season, namely reducing a slight crouch he previously went into after a pitcher released the ball and developing what he feels is a more fluid swing that's reminiscent of the one he flashed in his early minor-league days. "I feel like I'm pretty honest into how I feel, into how I do things," Rodriguez said. "And once I feel that something's not working, I feel like I'm always trying to get it better."

  • Mariners' Julio Rodriguez: Back in lineup

Rodriguez (hand) is batting second and starting in center field for Saturday's Cactus League game against Oakland, Shannon Drayer of Seattle Sports 710 AM reports. Rodriguez developed minor inflammation on the back of his left hand after taking batting practice Monday but was able to wear his glove and play catch the next day. Now fully healed, the 23-year-old All-Star is set to return to Cactus League play without any limitations.

  • Mariners' Julio Rodriguez: Likely to join lineup Saturday

Mariners manager Scott Servais said that he expects Rodriguez (hand) to play in Saturday's Cactus League game against the Athletics, Ryan Divish of The Seattle Times reports. According to Shannon Drayer of Seattle Sports 710 AM, Rodriguez will take some swings in the batting cage and possibly on the back fields of camp Wednesday as he continues to ramp back up following a bout with left hand inflammation. Rodriguez was also able to play catch in the outfield Tuesday, so wearing a glove on the injured hand apparently isn't too bothersome for the 23-year-old.

  • Mariners' Julio Rodriguez: Continues improving Tuesday

Rodriguez (hand) played catch in the outfield with Ichiro Suzuki on Tuesday and is feeling "much, much better" according to manager Scott Servais, MLB.com reports. Rodriguez also did some batting cage work and echoed his manager's sentiments, saying in passing that he was feeling "all good" from the minor inflammation on the back of his left hand. Servais added that he felt Rodriguez, who engaged in intense training this offseason, was still on target for a potential Cactus League debut by the weekend, adding he had trust in the team's medical staff to give the green light to the star outfielder at the appropriate time.

  • Mariners' Julio Rodriguez: Taking flips in batting cage

Rodriguez (hand) will take flips in the batting cage Tuesday, Shannon Drayer of Seattle Sports 710 AM reports. Rodriguez is considered day-to-day while dealing with some inflammation in the top of his left hand. The hope is that he will be ready to return to game action before the end of this week, but the Mariners won't push him this early in spring training.

  • Mariners' Julio Rodriguez: Day-to-day with hand inflammation

Manager Scott Servais said Monday that Rodriguez is battling some inflammation in the top of the left hand, Shannon Drayer of Seattle Sports 710 AM reports. The Mariners believe the star outfielder just overdid it with too many swings in the batting cage. Rodriguez had the hand checked out and was cleared of any serious injury. He's expected to rest for the next few days but should be ready to return to Cactus League play by this weekend.
