  • Angels' Jose Soriano: Fans eight in loss

Soriano (2-5) took the loss against the Guardians on Saturday, allowing four runs on four hits and one walk while striking out eight over six innings.

Soriano cruised through the first two frames before failing to retire three of the first five batters he faced in the third, eventually leading to four runs coming across for Cleveland. He would, however, surrender just one infield single over his final three innings of work while striking out five over that span. Soriano's eight strikeouts on the night marked a season high and he's now gone at least six innings in three of his last five starts. It also marked the first time in his last four starts that he didn't walk multiple batters.

  • Angels' Jose Soriano: Excellent in win over Rangers

Soriano (2-4) allowed one run on five hits and two walks while striking out five over 7.2 innings to earn the win Sunday over the Rangers.

Soriano gave up a solo home run to Corey Seager in the fourth inning, but that was it. The Angels rallied ahead in the seventh to help Soriano earn his second win in 10 appearances (eight starts) this year. The right-hander has given up just five runs over 23.2 innings across his four appearances in May while posting a 20:8 K:BB in that span. For the year, he's at a 3.30 ERA, 1.23 WHIP and 43:22 K:BB through 46.1 innings. The walk rate remains a concern, but Soriano is showing improvement in that regard. He's projected to make his next start at home versus the Guardians.

  • Angels' Jose Soriano: Fires 5.1 scoreless frames

Soriano tossed 5.1 scoreless innings, allowing two hits and three walks while striking out six batters in a no-decision against St. Louis on Monday.

Soriano allowed just two baserunners through five frames before running into trouble in the sixth, when the Cardinals loaded the bases against him with one out. The right-hander was lifted at that point, and Adam Cimber was able to come to the rescue by inducing an inning-ending double play. As such, Soriano was credited with his second scoreless outing over his past three starts, though he lost an opportunity for a victory due to a late collapse by the Angels' bullpen. Soriano has shown flashes of excellence but has been inconsistent since moving into the rotation April 10 -- in seven starts since that date, he's given up one or zero earned runs on four occasions but has yielded exactly four earned runs in each of the other three starts.

  • Angels' Jose Soriano: Falls apart in fifth inning

Soriano didn't factor in the decision Wednesday against the Pirates after he gave up four runs on six hits and two walks over 4.2 innings. He struck out six.

The right-hander blanked Pittsburgh through four frames but was unable to get through the fifth, as he surrendered all four runs on three hits and two walks. Soriano has a 1-4 record but has pitched well at times this season with two quality starts, though he's also given up four runs in three of his seven outings. He has a 4.32 ERA and 32:17 K:BB across 33.1 innings and tentatively lines up to face the Cardinals early next week.

  • Angels' Jose Soriano: Secures first win

Soriano (1-4) earned the win Friday against the Guardians, surrendering five hits and a walk while striking out three batters across six scoreless innings.

Friday was a much-needed bounce-back outing for Soriano, who gave up four runs in 1.2 innings during his previous start against Minnesota. He rarely found himself in trouble versus Cleveland aside from the fifth inning, when the Guardians had runners on second and third base with one out, but a well-timed groundout followed by a walk and a strikeout allowed Soriano to maintain his shutout. He'll carry a 3.77 ERA and 1.29 WHIP heading into his next projected start Wednesday in Pittsburgh.
