Lewis isn't in the Twins' lineup for Thursday's game against the Yankees. Lewis will get a breather Thursday after hitting a home run in each of his first two games since returning from the injured list Tuesday. Jose Miranda will take over at the hot corner, allowing Carlos Santana to start at first base.... See More ... See Less

Twins' Royce Lewis: Homers again Wednesday
Lewis went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Wednesday's loss to the Yankees. Lewis homered in his return from a lengthy absence due to a quad injury Tuesday, and he left the yard again Wednesday in his second game back. The third baseman has played in just three contests this season, but he's maximized his opportunities with a long ball in each of those games. Altogether, he's gone 4-for-7 with the three homers, three RBI and two walks across nine plate appearances.... See More ... See Less -
Twins' Royce Lewis: Homers in return from quad injury
Lewis went 1-for-1 with a home run and two walks in Tuesday's loss to the Yankees. He got the start at third base in just his second game of the season after being injured Opening Day and missing nearly 10 weeks due to a strained right quad. Lewis is remarkably 3-for-3 with two home runs in those two games. It was a good sign for his health that he played defense as opposed to being eased into action at DH, but Lewis figures to get a day or two off over the next week as he gets back up to full speed.... Twins' Royce Lewis: Returning from stint on IL
The Twins activated Lewis (quadricep) from the 10-day injured list Tuesday. Lewis is ready to go following an absence of nearly 10 weeks due to a strained right quad. The 24-year-old went 4-for-23 with an 8:1 K:BB over 24 plate appearances during a six-game rehab stint with Triple-A St. Paul. Per Dan Hayes of The Athletic, the Twins have instructed Lewis to run at less than full speed in hopes that it will give him a better chance of staying healthy. While that could put a bit of a damper on his stolen-base outlook, it's not a big part of Lewis' game, anyway, as he's totaled just six steals in 71 career games. Lewis will regain his role as the Twins' everyday third baseman, with Jose Miranda likely to now see reps in the designated hitter spot and/or first base.... See More ... See Less -
Twins' Royce Lewis: Rehab to continue at Triple-A
Twins manager Rocco Baldelli said Sunday that Lewis (quadricep) responded well to his first two minor-league rehab games, but the 24-year-old remains without a clear timeline to return from the 10-day injured list, Phil Miller of the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports. "But he's going to play this week, and we're going to see how he's doing," Baldelli said. Lewis went 3-for-9 with a double, two runs and a stolen base over his two rehab games this weekend. The stolen base in particular was an encouraging sign that he's no longer slowed by his right quad strain, though the Twins have told him to play it safe and not attempt any more stolen bases during his rehab assignment. The Twins have been guarded about when Lewis may return, but given the team's need for offense, he may not need more than a week in the minors. Lewis may be limited to designated-hitter duties initially when he returns to limit the wear on his legs.... See More ... See Less -
Twins' Royce Lewis: Beginning rehab assignment
Lewis (quadriceps) had a successful workout Friday and will report to Triple-A St. Paul on Saturday to begin a rehab assignment, Do-Hyoung Park of MLB.com reports. Lewis has been sidelined since he suffered a right quadriceps strain Opening Day, but he's now in the final stages of his rehab program. The 24-year-old will likely need at least a handful of games in the minors before rejoining the Twins.... See More ... See Less -
Twins' Royce Lewis: Running bases
Lewis (quadriceps) ran the bases Monday, Betsy Helfand of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports. After starting with some light running last week, Lewis was able to run the bases for the first time Monday as he continues to rehab from a right quad strain. It's expected that Lewis will need a rehab assignment before returning, which could push his timetable for return into early June.... See More ... See Less -
Twins' Royce Lewis: Cleared for running
Lewis (quadricep) did some light running on the field Tuesday, Do-Hyoung Park of MLB.com reports. Twins head athletic trainer Nick Paparesta described the upcoming week as a big one for Lewis when it comes to his recovery from the right quad strain that has kept him out since he suffered the injury Opening Day. Lewis will gradually ramp up the intensity of his running this week while incorporating more change-of-direction work into his training regimen. Depending on how Lewis responds to the running work, he could be cleared to begin a minor-league rehab assignment next weekend. In addition to running, Lewis has been fielding grounders and hitting.... See More ... See Less -
Twins' Royce Lewis: Resumes baseball activity
Lewis (quad) has resumed baseball activity and is aiming to begin a running progression next week, Aaron Gleeman of The Athletic reports. Lewis hit off a tee and stood in during a few bullpen sessions Saturday. Head trainer Nick Paparesta said he is pleased by the progress the 24-year-old infielder has made since straining his right quad on Opening Day, though he noted that Lewis still has a ways to go before the Twins can start thinking about a return.... Twins' Royce Lewis: Receives PRP injection
Lewis said Thursday that he received a platelet-rich plasma injection in his right quadricep, Do-Hyoung Park of MLB.com reports. Lewis is still going to be shut down from activity for at least a month, but the injection will aid in the healing process and could make it easier for the 24-year-old to power through his rehab once he resumes on-field work. Willi Castro has been operating as the Twins' primary third baseman since Lewis strained his right quad last Thursday.... See More ... See Less -
Twins' Royce Lewis: Awaiting MRI results
Lewis (quadriceps) underwent an MRI and is awaiting results after exiting Thursday's game against the Royals, Betsy Helfand of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports. Lewis was forced to exit the game after injuring himself running the bases in the third inning. He described the issue as feeling like a cramp, though nothing official has been announced. Lewis' status will become clearer once the results of the MRI are known.... See More ... See Less -
Twins' Royce Lewis: Leaves game with quad injury
Lewis was removed from Thursday's game against the Royals in the third inning due to a right quadriceps injury, Dan Hayes of The Athletic reports. Lewis came up gimpy while rounding second base on a Carlos Correa double and walked off the field gingerly with the trainer. He had homered and singled in his first two plate appearances before exiting. Lewis should be considered day-to-day until the severity of the injury is known.... See More ... See Less -
Twins' Royce Lewis: Hits another grand slam
Lewis went 1-for-4 with a grand slam in Friday's Grapefruit League win over Boston. Lewis is 7-for-12 with the bases loaded in his career in the regular season and was the fastest player in MLB history to hit five grand slams, needing only 66 career games. While his spring training grand slam won't add to those totals, it shows Lewis is just about in regular-season form. After missing time each of the last three seasons due to knee injuries, Lewis is fully healthy entering 2024 and could be poised for superstardom.... See More ... See Less -
Twins' Royce Lewis: Likely to remain at DH
Lewis (hamstring) is likely to remain at designated hitter for the ALDS against the Astros, Bobby Nightengale of the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports. Lewis and the Twins are hoping he'll be available to play third base at some point, but his left hamstring still isn't 100 percent. For now, the club will just be happy to have his bat in the lineup. Lewis homered twice and also drew two walks during the Twins' AL Wild Card Series versus the Blue Jays.... See More ... See Less -
Twins' Royce Lewis: Should be ready for Tuesday
Lewis (hamstring) is expected to be listed on Minnesota's roster for its upcoming AL Wild Card Series against Toronto, Dan Hayes of The Athletic reports. Lewis sounded unsure about his availability when speaking with media earlier in the day, but Hayes notes that he demonstrated his health during Monday's workout. Hayes also acknowledged that it's likely Lewis will be limited to the DH role, but it would still be a big boost for the Twins to get his bat back in the starting nine. Expect the official roster to be revealed Tuesday morning.... See More ... See Less -
Twins' Royce Lewis: Plays simulated game
Lewis (hamstring) played in a simulated game Wednesday at Target Field, Do-Hyoung Park of MLB.com reports. He even hit a homer, per Park. Lewis has made a swift recovery from the mild left hamstring strain he suffered last Tuesday and could be activated from the injured list when first eligible this Sunday, the final day of the regular season. The 24-year-old is a key potential run producer for the Twins as they head into the playoffs.... See More ... See Less -
Twins' Royce Lewis: Taking swings
Lewis (hamstring) was swinging a bat Tuesday, Do-Hyoung Park of MLB.com reports. The 24-year-old has been sidelined by a strained hamstring since Sept. 20, so his relatively quick return to swinging a bat is an encouraging sign. Lewis will be eligible to be reinstated from the injured list on the final day of the regular season Sunday, though it remains to be seen if he's expected to be healthy by that point.... See More ... Twins' Royce Lewis: Placed on injured list
The Twins placed Lewis on the 10-day injured list Friday with a left hamstring strain, Brandon Warne of Access Twins reports. Lewis had to be taken out of Tuesday's game after tweaking his hamstring, and an MRI revealed a strain that will keep him out until at least the final day of the season, though there's no guarantee he'll be ready to play by then. Jordan Luplow will return to Minnesota to replace Lewis on the active roster.... See More ... See Less -
Twins' Royce Lewis: Getting MRI this weekend
Lewis (hamstring) will have an MRI when the Twins return home for this weekend's series against the Angels, Dan Hayes of The Athletic reports. As Hayes says, this situation is still very much to be determined, as a hamstring strain could mean the end of Lewis' regular-season play. The Twins are off Thursday, and Kyle Farmer figures to be an everyday player in the short term, especially with Carlos Correa (plantar fasciitis) landing on the injured list Wednesday.... Twins' Royce Lewis: Dealing with hamstring tightness
Lewis was removed from Tuesday's game against the Reds due to left hamstring tightness, Betsy Helfand of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports. Lewis initially stayed in the game after tweaking his hamstring in the sixth inning, but he had to leave after further injuring himself during the eighth frame. Luckily, he's officially listed as day-to-day, so it appears Lewis avoided a significant injury. He could potentially miss a few games to recover before returning to Minnesota's lineup....
