Woo did not factor into the decision Sunday against Washington, allowing three earned runs on five hits and zero walks over six innings. He struck out one. Woo finally showed some signs of weakness Sunday, surrendering his first home run of the season and allowing a season-high three earned runs. Even so, the 24-year-old needed just 70 pitches to notch his second consecutive quality start. Despite not topping 80 pitches in any outing this season, Woo sits at 2-0 with a sparkling 1.66 ERA and 0.60 WHIP in 21.2 innings this season. He is tentatively scheduled to start Friday's game against the Angels.... See More ... See Less

Mariners' Bryan Woo: Victorious again
Woo (2-0) earned the win Tuesday, yielding two hits and no walks with seven strikeouts across six scoreless innings against the Yankees. Woo's been excellent to start 2024, allowing just one run across 15.2 innings after missing the first month of the campaign with elbow inflammation. The 24-year-old still seems to be on a pitch count, as he only threw 77 pitches Tuesday and hasn't exceeded 80 pitches in a start this year. He's projected to make another start Sunday at Washington.... See More ... See Less -
Mariners' Bryan Woo: Sharp in first win
Woo (1-0) picked up the win in Wednesday's 4-2 victory over the Royals, allowing one run on three hits and a walk over 5.1 innings. He struck out five. The right-hander pounded the zone, firing 60 of his 79 pitches for strikes, but after five scoreless innings Woo ran out of gas in the sixth and left the mound with runners on the corners and one out, clinging to a 2-1 lead. Gabe Speier was able to escape the jam, however, and the Seattle bullpen took care of the rest. Woo has been impressive in two starts since making his belated season debut, giving up just one run in 9.2 innings with an 8:2 K:BB, but he faces a tough test in his next outing -- a road start at Yankee Stadium early next week.... Mariners' Bryan Woo: Battling forearm tightness
Woo said after Friday's 8-1 win over the Athletics that he has been dealing with tightness in his forearm, Ryan Divish of The Seattle Times reports. Woo acknowledged that he experienced forearm tightness during his recent minor-league rehab outings, but the issue didn't prevent the Mariners from activating him from the 15-day injured list Friday ahead of his 2024 MLB debut. The right-hander struck out three and allowed just one hit and one walk over 4.1 innings Friday, but he ended up being pulled as a precaution after the forearm tightness cropped up again. Mariners manager Scott Servais said he expects Woo to be fine, and for now, the expectation is that the 24-year-old will make his next start, which is expected to come Wednesday against Kansas City.... Mariners' Bryan Woo: Starting Friday
Woo (elbow) is expected to be activated from the 15-day injured list to start Friday's game against the Athletics, Shannon Drayer of Seattle Sports 710 AM reports. Woo has been on the injured list all year due to right elbow inflammation, but he has now been given the green light to make his season debut with the Mariners. The 24-year-old righty did not give up a run through 11.1 innings during his three rehab starts at Triple-A Tacoma, and he managed to strikeout 17 batters while walking none. Emerson Hancock is expected to be optioned to Tacoma once Woo is activated.... See More ... See Less -
Mariners' Bryan Woo: Season debut coming soon
Woo (elbow) is expected to rejoin the Mariners' rotation during their upcoming homestand, Ryan Divish of the Seattle Times reports. Manager Scott Servais wasn't ready to give an exact date for Woo's return but noted that it will be a day which would allow for an extra day of rest for the team's other starters. That would seem to point to Woo starting Friday against the Athletics, but the exact plans should be revealed soon. Emerson Hancock will be optioned to Triple-A Tacoma when Woo returns.... Mariners' Bryan Woo: Terrific in first rehab start
Woo (elbow) struck out five over three perfect innings in his first rehab start with Triple-A Tacoma on Sunday. Woo needed just 35 pitches to cruise through his three frames in a difficult pitching environment in Las Vegas. The velocity on his four-seamer was down a bit at 93.9 miles per hour, but that's not overly concerning considering it was his first game action in more than a month. Woo is in line for multiple rehab starts but could be ready to rejoin the Mariners rotation by early May.... See More ... See Less -
Mariners' Bryan Woo: Starting rehab stint
Woo (elbow) is making a rehab start with Triple-A Tacoma on Sunday in Las Vegas, Ryan Divish of The Seattle Times reports. The right-hander went down with elbow inflammation late in spring training but has now been cleared for game action. Woo will likely require multiple starts in the minors before joining the Mariners, so he could make his season debut in early May.... See More ... See Less -
Mariners' Bryan Woo: More progress Friday
Woo (elbow) threw an up-down bullpen session Friday and could head out on a rehab assignment with Triple-A Tacoma at some point next week, SeattleSports.com reports. The update comes via Mariners general manager Justin Hollander, who added Woo will need to get in a live batting practice as his next step before engaging in a three-inning rehab start. Woo would likely be set for two rehab starts overall whenever he does make it down to the farm, per Hollander, and he then would be evaluated for possible activation.... See More ... See Less -
Mariners' Bryan Woo: Resumes throwing
Woo (elbow) has begun a throwing program, Shannon Drayer of Seattle Sports 710 AM reports. Woo was shut down for a little over a week with right elbow inflammation but is ready to get built back up. It shouldn't take too terribly long for that to happen since he was fully stretched out by late March, but the Mariners won't establish a timetable for Woo's return until he makes further strides.... Mariners' Bryan Woo: Officially placed on IL
The Mariners placed Woo (elbow) on the 15-day injured list Thursday. Woo was on track to be included in the Mariners' Opening Day rotation until he was unable to get loose during a bullpen session earlier this week. According to MLB.com, Woo underwent an MRI that revealed "mild inflammation" and no structural damage. Though he seems to have avoided a major setback, Woo will still be shut down from throwing until early next week and will require some time to build back up. Emerson Hancock was recalled from Triple-A Tacoma on Thursday and will fill a back-end spot in the Seattle rotation until Woo is ready to come off the IL.... See More ... See Less -
Mariners' Bryan Woo: Trying to improve versus lefty bats
Woo, who logged 18 starts as a rookie in 2023, is focusing on improving considerably against left-handed hitters in his second season, Brandon Gustafson of 710 ESPN Seattle reports. The right-hander, who made the jump straight from the Double-A level to the majors, finished with a 4-5 record and serviceable 4.21 ERA and 1.21 WHIP across his first 87.2 big-league frames. However, Woo had some drastic splits, surrendering a .283 average and .928 OPS in 180 plate appearances versus left-handed bats, numbers exponentially worse than the respective .179 and .494 figures he surrendered to righty bats. Woo, who's penciled in as the Mariners' No. 5 starter as spring camp gets underway, says he is absorbing plenty from two other accomplished young arms above him in the rotation in George Kirby and Logan Gilbert, who already have solid major-league resumes.... Mariners' Bryan Woo: Inefficient versus Rangers
Woo allowed two hits and three walks while striking out five over 3.2 shutout innings in a no-decision versus the Rangers on Friday. While he didn't give up a run, Woo needed 82 pitches (44 strikes) to get 11 outs. Manager Scott Servais elected not to push the young right-hander further, and the bullpen was able to keep the shutout going with 5.1 scoreless innings distributed between five relievers. Woo finishes the regular season with a 4.21 ERA, 1.21 WHIP and 93:31 K:BB as well as a 4-5 record through 18 starts spanning 87.2 innings. He also logged 44 innings with a 2.05 ERA with Double-A Arkansas after throwing just 57 innings across three levels last year. Should the Mariners push their way into the postseason, Woo would likely work out of the bullpen if he gets onto the playoff roster at all.... See More ... See Less -
Mariners' Bryan Woo: Surrenders four homers in loss
Woo (4-5) allowed six runs on five hits and two walks while striking out six in just 3.1 innings during a loss to the Rangers on Sunday. Sunday was a nightmare outing for Woo, who had given up just six home runs in 16 starts heading into the day but surrendered four long balls and recorded just 10 outs in Texas. Marcus Semien led things off with a solo blast in the first followed by a two-run shot from Corey Seager in the third. Adolis Garcia then kicked off the fourth with a homer and Woo was finally pulled after Leody Taveras went deep just three batters later. Woo has sandwiched two scoreless outings in between two poor outings during which he combined to give up 11 runs. He'll look to end the regular season on the right foot with a rematch against the Rangers this weekend.... See More ... See Less -
Mariners' Bryan Woo: Walks four in win
Woo (4-4) allowed three hits and four walks while striking out six over five shutout innings to earn the win Monday over the Athletics. While Woo's four walks were a season high, he was able to turn in his third scoreless outing in his last four starts. Two of those efforts have been against Oakland, so there is somewhat of a caveat for the quality of the opponent, but it's still encouraging to see the rookie find a groove late in the year. Woo is at a 3.90 ERA, 1.17 WHIP and 82:26 K:BB through 80.2 innings over 16 starts. He is projected to make his next start on the road versus the Rangers this weekend.... See More ... See Less -
Mariners' Bryan Woo: Falls to Cincinnati
Woo (2-4) took the loss Monday, allowing five runs on four hits and three walks over five innings against Cincinnati without recording a strikeout. The Reds got to Woo early Monday, scoring twice in the first inning before adding three more in the second on a Spencer Steer home run. The rookie right-hander would eventually settle in, delivering three scoreless frames to finish the outing, though he'd ultimately take his first loss since July 23. Woo had pitched well since coming off the IL in late August, allowing just one run in his previous two starts (10 innings). Overall, he sports a 4.50 ERA with a 1.19 WHIP and 68:22 K:BB across 14 starts (70 innings) this season. Woo's tentatively lined up for a road matchup with the Rays in his next outing.... Mariners' Bryan Woo: Solid in no-decision
Woo didn't factor into the decision during Tuesday's victory over the White Sox, allowing an earned run on three hits and a walk over four innings. He struck out three. As expected, Woo was capped at four innings during his return from a stint on the injured list due to forearm inflammation. The rookie right-hander pounded 43 of 65 pitches in for strikes and settled in nicely after giving up an RBI single to Andrew Vaughn in the first inning. Now apparently back to full health, Woo looks like he could go long enough to qualify for a decision in his next start, which is tentatively scheduled for either Sunday against the Royals or Monday versus the Athletics.... Mariners' Bryan Woo: Unlikely to qualify for win Tuesday
The Mariners will likely limit Woo to four innings Tuesday against the White Sox, Ryan Divish of The Seattle Times reports. Woo was just activated from the injured list after missing 18 days with a forearm injury, and since he didn't go on a rehab assignment, the team will be cautious with his workload in this first start back. He is a solid add in fantasy going forward, but don't expect Woo to qualify for a win in Tuesday's start.... See More ... See Less -
Mariners' Bryan Woo: Reinstated from IL
Woo was reinstated from the 15-day injured list ahead of his start Tuesday against the White Sox. Woo missed almost three weeks with right forearm inflammation. The rookie did not need a rehab assignment after the Mariners were pleased with how his bullpen sessions went. As he works himself back from the injured list, his workload may be monitored. The starting pitcher returns as Emerson Hancock (shoulder) heads to the 60-day injured list.... See More ... See Less -
Mariners' Bryan Woo: Set to start Tuesday
Woo (forearm) is scheduled to return from the 15-day injured list to start Tuesday's game against the White Sox, Ryan Divish of The Seattle Times reports. As expected, Woo will be ready to rejoin the Seattle rotation after spending close to the minimum 15 days on the IL due to right forearm inflammation. The rookie didn't require a rehab assignment, as the Mariners were seemingly pleased enough with how Woo checked out during a recent 20-pitch bullpen session late last week. However, expect the Mariners to be cautious with his workload in his first game back from the IL.... See More ... See Less
