Kwan is absent from the lineup for Friday's game in Miami. The Guardians have now mixed in two off days for Kwan in the outfielder's first week back from the injured list as they ease him into things. David Fry will be the left fielder Friday and Tyler Freeman will be elevated to the leadoff spot.... See More ... See Less

Guardians' Steven Kwan: Breather Saturday
Kwan is not in the starting lineup Saturday versus Washington. Kwan will head to the bench after he went 3-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored in his return to the lineup Friday after missing nearly four weeks with a hamstring injury. David Fry will slot in at left field while Kyle Manzardo enters the lineup at designated hitter and bats sixth against the Nationals.... See More ... See Less -
Guardians' Steven Kwan: Three hits in return
Kwan went 3-for-4 with two runs scored, an RBI and a walk in Friday's win over the Nationals. Kwan returned from the injured list after missing nearly the entire month of May but showed no signs of rust. He singled three times, including an RBI knock in the eighth inning. He's produced five multi-hit performances in his last eight appearances. Kwan owns a strong .365/.420/.504 slash line with 30 runs scored and a 12:12 BB:K through 150 plate appearances.... Guardians' Steven Kwan: Back from IL, leading off Friday
Kwan (hamstring) was reinstated from the injured list and is starting in left field and batting leadoff Friday against the Nationals, Mandy Bell of MLB.com reports. The 26-year-old has been sidelined nearly four weeks by a strained left hamstring, but he's back with the Guardians after a four-game rehab stint in the minors. Kwan was producing as one of the best leadoff hitters in baseball prior to the injury with three homers, three steals and a .353/.407/.496 slash line in 32 games.... See More ... See Less -
Guardians' Steven Kwan: On verge of return
Kwan (hamstring) went 1-for-2 with an RBI, two walks, three runs scored and a stolen base in a rehab game with Triple-A Columbus on Thursday. After two games with High-A Lake County, Kwan moved his rehab to Columbus earlier this week. He was on base three times Thursday in his second game with the Guardians' top minor-league affiliate and added a steal for good measure, showing good confidence in his hamstring. The 26-year-old appears poised to return to the major-league lineup in the near future, possibly as soon as Friday against Washington, and will look to pick up where he left off before going down after posting a .353/.407/.496 slash line over his first 32 games this season.... Guardians' Steven Kwan: Moving rehab to Triple-A
Kwan (hamstring) will have his rehab assignment transferred to Triple-A Columbus beginning Tuesday, Mandy Bell of MLB.com reports. Kwan went 1-for-5 with a three-run home run and a walk over two games with High-A Lake County over the weekend. The outfielder is expected to play six-to-eight innings in left field Tuesday. He may stay with Columbus for the remainder of the Guardians' road trip, which makes it possible Kwan could be ready to return to the majors by Friday.... See More ... See Less -
Guardians' Steven Kwan: Set for rehab assignment
Kwan (hamstring) will begin a rehab assignment with High-A Lake County on Saturday. Kwan is scheduled to play both Saturday and Sunday. It's not clear if he'll be moved up to another affiliate following those games, but it seems Kwan has a good chance to beat the four-week projection he was given when he went on the injured list May 6. The Guardians' current road trip features a three-game series from Monday to Wednesday at Colorado before they come home for six games beginning Friday.... See More ... See Less -
Guardians' Steven Kwan: Participates in batting practice
Kwan (hamstring) participated in batting practice Friday for the first time since he went on the injured list, Tom Withers of the Associated Press reports. "He's progressing well," manager Stephen Vogt said before Friday's series opener against Minnesota. "Still don't have a timetable, but the fact that he's already back to baseball activity is a good sign. He's feeling well and been running relatively pain-free, so he's on a good track." Kwan was initially given a four-week timeline when he went on the injured list, so it's encouraging that he's resumed baseball activities halfway through that expected absence. The Guardians are likely to take things cautiously with Kwan given his history of hamstring issues, so it's unclear when he might be able to go out on a rehab assignment.... See More ... See Less -
Guardians' Steven Kwan: Facing four-week absence
The Guardians expect Kwan to miss approximately four weeks after placing him on the 10-day injured list earlier Monday with an acute left hamstring strain, Zack Meisel of The Athletic reports. Kwan was diagnosed with the acute hamstring strain after undergoing an MRI following his early exit from Saturday's 7-1 win over the Angels. With imaging determining that he sustained more than a mild injury, Kwan will be sidelined well beyond the minimum 10 days, and a more precise return date likely won't come into focus until he reaches the point in his rehab where he's performing baseball activities. The Guardians are likely to turn to Estevan Florial, Ramon Laureano and Gabriel Arias to fill in for Kwan in the corner outfield, while prospect Kyle Manzardo was promoted from Triple-A Columbus on Monday and should take on an everyday role at designated hitter for at least the next few weeks.... Guardians' Steven Kwan: Heads to 10-day IL
The Guardians placed Kwan on the 10-day injured list Monday with a left hamstring strain. Cleveland hasn't disclosed the grade of Kwan's hamstring strain, which he suffered in Saturday's 7-1 win over the Angels. The injury forced him to miss his second game of the season Sunday, and he'll be sidelined through at least May 14 as a result of landing on the IL. The Guardians called up prospect Kyle Manzardo from Triple-A Columbus to take over Kwan's spot on the 26-man active roster, and Manzardo should also inherit an everyday role while the 26-year-old outfielder is on the shelf. Manzardo will serve as the Guardians' designated hitter in Monday's series opener versus the Tigers and will hit seventh, while Estevan Florial will fill in for Kwan in left field and atop the batting order.... Guardians' Steven Kwan: Will undergo MRI on hamstring
Kwan will undergo an MRI on his injured left hamstring Sunday, Paul Hoynes of The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports. Kwan tweaked the hamstring during Saturday's 7-1 win over the Angels while making a play in the outfield. More should be known about whether Kwan will require a stint on the injured list following the exam. Kwan is off to an excellent start this season, slashing .353/.407/.496 over 32 games.... Guardians' Steven Kwan: Leaves game with hamstring injury
Kwan was lifted from Saturday's game against the Angels due to left hamstring tightness, Zack Meisel of The Athletic reports. Kwan appeared to tweak his hamstring while chasing down a flyball in the top of the third inning and was removed prior to the top of the fourth. It's not clear at this point whether he might require an MRI, but the Guardians figure to offer an update on his condition after the game.... See More ... See Less -
Guardians' Steven Kwan: Three hits in extra-inning win
Kwan went 3-for-5 with a triple, a double and two RBI in Wednesday's 3-2 extra-inning win over the Astros. Kwan's RBI triple in the fifth inning gave the Guardians a 2-0 lead, and he plated the decisive run with a double in the 10th. He ended up a home run short of the cycle in Wednesday's strong performance. The leadoff hitter has gone 11-for-28 (.393) during his seven-game hitting streak, and he's slashing an excellent .360/.403/.512 with three homers, 11 RBI, 27 runs scored, three stolen bases, six doubles and two triples over 29 contests this season.... Guardians' Steven Kwan: Pops third homer
Kwan went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Friday's 6-2 loss to Atlanta. He led off the game by ripping a Chris Sale sinker down the right-field line, but not much else went right for the Guardians on the night. Kwan managed only 11 homers total in his first two big-league seasons, but the 26-year-old already has three in 25 games to begin 2024. He's still making plenty of contact, too, sitting third in the AL in batting average at .343, just behind Jose Altuve (.346) and Salvador Perez (.344).... See More ... See Less -
Guardians' Steven Kwan: First day off Thursday
Kwan is out of the lineup for Thursday's contest in Boston. Kwan will get his first day off of the season. David Fry will start in left field in place of Kwan, while Andres Gimenez serves as Cleveland's leadoff batter.... See More ... See Less -
Guardians' Steven Kwan: Gets aboard four times
Kwan went 3-for-5 with a walk and two runs scored in Tuesday's 10-7 extra-innings win over the Red Sox. Kwan is batting .400 (14-for-35) during his active eight-game hitting streak. He continues to put the ball in play with great success, batting .372 over 17 contests this season. He's added two home runs, five RBI, 18 runs scored and a stolen base. Kwan can still chip in a bit more with speed, but he's doing everything else right from atop the Guardians' order.... See More ... See Less -
Guardians' Steven Kwan: Collects three more hits
Kwan went 3-for-4 with a run scored during Monday's 4-0 victory over the White Sox. Kwan has gotten off to a scorching start this season with Monday marking Kwan's sixth multi-hit effort of the season and fourth three-hit performance of the young campaign. Kwan lifted his average to .383 on the young season which ranks seventh in all of baseball while his 11 runs scored are tied for fourth.... See More ... See Less -
Guardians' Steven Kwan: Stays hot in win
Kwan went 3-for-5 with a double and a run scored in Thursday's 4-2 win over the Twins. Kwan logged multiple hits for the third game in a row and the fifth time in eight contests this season. The outfielder is batting a stellar .385 with a home run, three RBI and 10 runs scored over eight contests at the top of a surprisingly productive Guardians lineup. Some of his success comes from it being early in the season, but Kwan hit .298 as a rookie in 2022 before dropping to .268 last season -- he's on track for a better showing if he can avoid lengthy slumps in 2024.... See More ... See Less -
Guardians' Steven Kwan: Sets table well in win
Kwan went 3-for-5 with three runs scored in Wednesday's 8-0 win over the Mariners. Kwan has multiple hits in four of the first seven games this season, and he's gone hitless just once. The outfielder is 12-for-34 (.353) with three RBI, one home run, nine runs scored and one stolen base. Kwan's also struck out five times, which is only slightly higher than his 10.4 percent strikeout rate last season. The 26-year-old is locked in as the Guardians' leadoff hitter.... See More ... Guardians' Steven Kwan: Hits first homer
Kwan went 3-for-5 with a solo home run, a walk, two RBI and three runs in Saturday's 12-3 win at Oakland. The Guardians have posted 26 runs through three games against the A's, with Kwan setting the table nicely atop the order by going 6-for-15 with six runs and a stolen base. The 26-year-old clubbed just 11 home runs in 305 games across his first two MLB seasons, and his 424-foot shot to right-center field Saturday was a welcome show of power for the contact-oriented outfielder, who entered the year with a career .102 ISO....
