  • Reds' TJ Friedl: Hitless in return

Friedl went 0-for-3 with two walks in Wednesday's 5-3 loss to St. Louis.

Friedl was activated off the injured list Wednesday after successfully rehabbing a thumb injury. He resumed his roles as the team's starting center fielder and leadoff hitter. It's been a season of stops and starts thus far for Friedl, who was back only six games from a wrist injury when he injured the thumb. The Reds and fantasy managers alike are hoping for his sustained presence in the lineup.

  • Reds' TJ Friedl: Makes return from IL

The Reds activated Friedl (thumb) from the 10-day injured list Wednesday. He'll start in center field and bat leadoff in the Reds' series finale with the Cardinals.

Friedl missed just two and a half weeks with a fractured left thumb and will make his return without going on a rehab assignment beforehand. The outfielder has been limited to just six games this season due to the thumb injury as well as the fractured wrist. He should see the bulk of the action in center field for Cincinnati now that he's been cleared for game action.

  • Reds' TJ Friedl: Could return this week

Reds manager David Bell said Monday that Friedl (thumb) could return as soon as late this week or early next week, Charlie Goldsmith of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.

Just six games into his return from a fractured right wrist, Friedl suffered a broken left thumb as a result of a hit-by-pitch. Fortunately for Friedl and the Reds, it doesn't sound like he will have to miss nearly as much action this time around. Bell has already said he thinks Friedl could bypass a rehab assignment.

  • Reds' TJ Friedl: May not need rehab

Friedl (thumb) has started hitting off a tee and may not require a rehab assignment, C. Trent Rosecrans of The Athletic reports.

Apparently, Friedl is progressing at such a rate that manager David Bell feels he can avoid any detours and jump back into the majors. The outfielder, who missed the first six weeks of the season with a wrist injury, made just 24 plate appearances before suffering a fractured left thumb.

  • Reds' TJ Friedl: Hitting flipped pitches

Friedl (thumb) has progressed to hitting flipped balls in the batting cage and hopes to be cleared to take batting practice soon, Charlie Goldsmith of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.

Friedl is making a rapid recovery from a fractured left thumb, an injury he suffered just 11 days ago. If the outfielder is able to take batting practice soon, a brief rehab assignment should follow shortly after. He would appear on track for an early June return from the 10-day injured list.

  • Reds' TJ Friedl: Hopes to hit off tee this week

Friedl (thumb) hopes to begin hitting off a tee this week, Charlie Goldsmith of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.

It's been just over a week since Friedl suffered a fractured left thumb, so it would seem to be a good sign that he's almost ready to do some hitting. A timetable for a return probably won't be available for a little while, though. Friedl has been limited to just six games this season because of wrist and thumb fractures.

  • Reds' TJ Friedl: Lands on IL with fractured thumb

The Reds placed Friedl on the 10-day injured list Monday due to a fractured left thumb.

Friedl left Sunday's 6-5 loss to the Giants after being hit by a pitch in the top of the first inning. The injury was initially reported as a contusion, but further tests revealed fractures in his left thumb. Friedl started the season on the IL with a fractured right wrist, and he appeared in just six major-league games after being activated May 7. In Friedl's absence, Will Benson could return to the leadoff spot against righties. The Reds recalled outfielder Jacob Hurtubise from Triple-A Louisville in a corresponding move.
