  • Giants' Ryan McKenna: Outrighted to Triple-A

McKenna cleared waivers Friday and was sent outright to Triple-A Sacramento, Shayna Rubin of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

McKenna was DFA'd for the second time this season Tuesday, though he will clear waivers this time around and remain within the Giants organization. The 27-year-old outfielder put up a .244/.333/.444 slash line with the Orioles' Triple-A affiliate, but he would likely have to further improve upon those numbers before drawing consideration for a return to San Francisco.

  • Giants' Ryan McKenna: Designated for assignment

The Giants designated McKenna for assignment Tuesday, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.

Just 10 days after getting claimed off waivers from Baltimore, McKenna's time with the Giants has come to an end. The 27-year-old outfielder went 0-for-6 with a stolen base and a run scored in four games with the Giants. He sports a .626 OPS in 523 plate appearances across his MLB career and could draw some interest on the waiver wire from a team in need of outfield depth. Tyler Fitzgerald was recalled from Triple-A Sacramento in a corresponding move.

  • Giants' Ryan McKenna: Picks up steal

McKenna went 0-for-1 with a stolen base and a run scored in Saturday's 7-2 extra-inning win over the Mets.

McKenna entered the game as a pinch runner, stole second and scored on a LaMonte Wade single. It appears the Giants plan to use McKenna as a platoon partner for Mike Yastrzemski in right field -- the former is in the lineup versus Mets southpaw Sean Manaea for his second start in a Giants uniform. That platoon pairing is likely to last at least until Austin Slater (concussion) is able to return.

  • Giants' Ryan McKenna: Joins Giants' roster

The Giants added McKenna to the 26-man roster Tuesday.

McKenna is in the starting lineup for the Giants as the right fielder and batting seventh against the Pirates after being claimed from Baltimore on Saturday. McKenna owns a .224/.302/.332 career slash line across four seasons in the majors, and the 27-year-old will provide depth in an outfield that is now without Jung Hoo Lee (shoulder) for the rest of the season.

  • Giants' Ryan McKenna: Claimed by Giants

The Giants claimed McKenna off waivers from Baltimore on Saturday, Robert Murray of FanSided.com reports.

McKenna was pushed off the Orioles' 40-man roster Monday to make room for Austin Hays' return from the injured list, but McKenna will have another opportunity to contribute in the big leagues as he moves to San Francisco. The 27-year-old outfielder owns a a .224/.302/.332 career slash line across four seasons in the majors, and he will provide depth to a Giants outfield that will be without Jung Hoo Lee (shoulder) for the rest of the season.

  • Orioles' Ryan McKenna: Cut from 40-man roster

The Orioles designated McKenna for assignment Monday.

McKenna will give up his spot on the 26-man active roster to Austin Hays (calf), who was reinstated from the 10-day injured list. It's the second time since late March that McKenna has been removed from the Orioles' 40-man roster, and he'll most likely clear waivers again and remain part of the organization as outfield depth at Triple-A Norfolk.

  • Orioles' Ryan McKenna: Goes yard in win

McKenna went 1-for-3 with a solo home run, a walk and two total runs scored in Sunday's 11-1 win over the Reds.

McKenna has gotten into the lineup against the last three southpaws the Orioles have faced -- twice in center field and once in left. The outfielder has three hits this season, two of which have left the yard. He's still unlikely to see much more than a short-side platoon role, and McKenna's stay on the major-league roster is likely to end once Austin Hays (calf) is activated from the injured list.

  • Orioles' Ryan McKenna: Lifts first homer of season

McKenna went 1-for-2 with a solo home run in Thursday's 7-2 win over the Yankees.

McKenna has gone 2-for-3 over three contests since he was promoted from Triple-A Norfolk on April 26. His homer in the fourth inning Thursday was the decisive run. McKenna got the start in center field versus southpaw Carlos Rodon in this game, but manager Brandon Hyde hasn't been hesitant to play Cedric Mullins against lefties, so it's unlikely a platoon situation develops.

  • Orioles' Ryan McKenna: Added to roster

The Orioles selected McKenna's contract from Triple-A Norfolk on Friday.

McKenna will provide manager Brandon Hyde with an outfield option against lefties. The 27-year-old has a career .221/.299/.318 slash line over parts of three major-league seasons and can handle all three outfield spots.

  • Orioles' Ryan McKenna: Remains in organization

McKenna cleared waivers and was outrighted to Triple-A Norfolk on Sunday, Cordell Woodland of 105.7 The Fan Baltimore reports.

The 27-year-old was designated for assignment by the Orioles on Thursday but will stick in the organization after passing through waivers unclaimed. McKenna has appeared in 282 games for Baltimore since he debuted in 2021 and has a career .617 OPS in the big leagues.

  • Orioles' Ryan McKenna: Dismissed from 40-man roster

The Orioles designated McKenna for assignment Thursday.

McKenna and corner infielder/outfielder Tyler Nevin were the Orioles' final cuts as the organization trimmed its active roster to 26 men ahead of Thursday's season opener versus the Angels. The 27-year-old outfielder served mainly in a reserve role during his various stints with the big club in 2023, slashing .254/.316/.361 over 139 plate appearances. The Orioles will hope that McKenna goes unclaimed off waivers so that he can remain in the organization as outfield depth at Triple-A Norfolk.

  • Orioles' Ryan McKenna: Lagging behind in outfield battle

McKenna has gone 1-for-13 over his first six Grapefruit League games.

McKenna is in a deep battle for a spot on the Orioles' roster. Prospects like Heston Kjerstad, Colton Cowser and Kyle Stowers are all in the mix for at least a reserve role in the outfield. Any of them could also be options at designated hitter, but the team is unlikely to carry more than five total outfielders. At this stage of spring training, McKenna shouldn't be favored to break camp with the team.

  • Orioles' Ryan McKenna: Stays with O's

McKenna signed a one-year contract with the Orioles on Friday, avoiding arbitration.

There had been some thought that McKenna could be a non-tender candidate, but the O's like his ability to play all across the outfield. The 26-year-old will be competing for a bench spot in the spring.

  • Orioles' Ryan McKenna: Not on playoff roster

McKenna isn't listed on the Orioles' roster for their ALDS matchup with Texas, Betsy Helfand of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports.

Despite serving as outfield depth for most of the regular season, McKenna will be unavailable for the ALDS. His role with the Orioles has diminished significantly since the arrival of Heston Kjerstad, who was promoted in mid-September and was awarded a spot on the playoff roster.

Baltimore optioned McKenna to Triple-A Norfolk on Wednesday, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports.

  • Orioles' Ryan McKenna: Back in majors

McKenna was recalled from Triple-A Norfolk on Wednesday, Jake Rill of MLB.com reports.

McKenna is back for another stint with the big club as Ryan Mountcastle (shoulder) goes on the injured list. It's possible he sees a little action versus lefties, but ultimately his playing time figures to be sparse.

  • Orioles' Ryan McKenna: Heads to Triple-A

McKenna was optioned to Triple-A Norfolk on Thursday.

Though Ryan Mountcastle (shoulder) will avoid the injured list for now, he's banged up enough for the Orioles to desire another power-hitting bat off the bench. Enter Heston Kjerstad, who was called up from Triple-A Norfolk on Thursday to replace the light-hitting McKenna on the 28-man active roster. The 26-year-old McKenna has mustered a .677 OPS across 129 plate appearances for Baltimore this season.

  • Orioles' Ryan McKenna: Swipes two bags Tuesday

McKenna went 2-for-2 with a double, two RBI, two runs scored and two stolen bases in Tuesday's 9-3 win over the White Sox.

The outfielder started the game on the bench but pinch hit for Adam Frazier in the seventh inning and remained in right field, and McKenna got the opportunity to rack up some numbers when the O's offense erupted for eight runs over its final two frames. The 26-year-old has three of his five steals on the season over the last two games along with three hits, four runs and four RBI, but with Baltimore's starting outfield healthy and Aaron Hicks (back) potentially rejoining the lineup in early September, playing time will be hard for McKenna to come by.

  • Orioles' Ryan McKenna: Drives in two

McKenna went 1-for-3 with a walk, two RBI, one stolen base and two runs scored in Monday's 9-0 win over the White Sox.

McKenna has gone 4-for-15 (.267) over seven contests since he was recalled to the majors to provide outfield depth with Aaron Hicks (back) sidelined. For the year, McKenna is slashing .250/.310/.353 with two home runs, a career-high three steals, 16 RBI, 20 runs scored and six doubles over 132 plate appearances. He'll likely see most of his playing time against southpaws, though he got the nod in left field versus a right-hander (Michael Kopech) for Monday's game.

  • Orioles' Ryan McKenna: Back in big leagues

McKenna was recalled by the Orioles on Saturday.

McKenna will fill the roster spot vacated by Aaron Hicks, who landed on the injured list with a lower-back strain. McKenna can play all three outfield positions but is unlikely to serve as anything more than a backup considering he owns a .670 OPS at the major-league level this season and a .612 OPS for his career.
