  • Diamondbacks' Jordan Montgomery: Hammered by Mets

Montgomery (3-3) yielded eight runs (six earned) on nine hits and three walks over four innings Friday, striking out four and taking a loss against the Mets.

Montgomery had a 3-0 lead before taking the mound Friday but quickly squandered it by coughing up four runs in the bottom of the first inning. He allowed another run in the second and three more in the fourth. After producing a pair of quality starts in his first two outings with Arizona, Montgomery has registered a rough 6.61 ERA over his last six starts. He now owns a 5.48 ERA with a lackluster 28:15 K:BB through 44.1 innings. Montgomery's next start is lined up to be at home against the Giants.

  • Diamondbacks' Jorge Barrosa: Returns from Triple-A IL

Triple-A Reno reinstated Barrosa (hamstring) from the 7-day injured list Friday, Alex Weiner of ArizonaSports.com reports.

Barrosa has been on the shelf since late April due to a right hamstring strain. He began playing rehab games in the Arizona Complex League last week, going 4-for-16 with three RBI across four games, and he's been given the green light to return to the Aces' lineup. The 23-year-old outfielder is slashing 308/.438/.462 across 48 Triple-A plate appearances and made his MLB debut earlier this season, going 2-for-10 with an RBI in three games against the Yankees in early April.

  • Diamondbacks' Slade Cecconi: Recalled from Triple-A

The Diamondbacks recalled Cecconi from Triple-A Reno on Friday.

With Zac Gallen (hamstring) headed for the 15-day injured list, Cecconi will come up from the minors in order to fill the open spot in Arizona's rotation. The 24-year-old righty has been inconsistent in the majors this season, giving up two runs or less three times but also allowing six earned runs during his other three outings. He threw seven shutout innings while striking out nine batters during his most recent start in the minors, but he remains an extremely risky fantasy option.

  • Diamondbacks' Zac Gallen: Lands on IL with hamstring strain

The Diamondbacks placed Gallen on the 15-day injured list Friday due to a right hamstring strain.

Gallen was pulled from Thursday's start against the Mets after throwing just six pitches without recording an out. He has been dealing with a right hamstring issue since April 26, and the 28-year-old right-hander will now be on the shelf for an extended period of time after aggravating the injury. It's unclear how long Gallen will be sidelined, but if he misses only the minimum, that would put him in line to return June 15 against the White Sox. In a corresponding move, the Diamondbacks recalled right-hander Slade Cecconi from Triple-A Reno.

  • Diamondbacks' Ketel Marte: Ends hitless skid

Marte went 1-for-4 with a double and two RBI in Thursday's 3-2 loss to the Mets.

Marte produced Arizona's only offense with a two-run double in the third inning. The hit snapped an 0-for-22 run for Marte, who despite the slump, still leads the team's qualified batters with a .265 average. He's also tops among teammates in doubles (13) and is tied for second in RBI (29).

  • Diamondbacks' Justin Martinez: Works three innings

Martinez allowed three hits and one walk while striking out two over three scoreless innings in Thursday's 3-2 loss to the Mets.

Martinez had never recorded more than six outs in an MLB game, but he gave the Diamondbacks nine outs on a night when starter Zac Gallen (hamstring) was removed after six pitches. The reliever worked around traffic, helped by double plays in the fourth and fifth innings. The right-hander has made 12 consecutive scoreless appearances and given up just one run over 18.2 innings.

  • Diamondbacks' Zac Gallen: Diagnosed with hamstring strain

Gallen was removed from Thursday's start against the Mets with a right hamstring strain, Jesse Friedman of GoPHNX.com reports.

Gallen left Thursday's start with trainers after giving up one hit and throwing only six pitches, as he aggravated a hamstring injury that originally popped up April 26. An exact return timeline is unclear, but he'll almost certainly miss at least one start and is likely to end up on the injured list.

  • Diamondbacks' Zac Gallen: Exits Thursday's start

Gallen exited Thursday's start against the Mets with an apparent injury, Jesse Friedman of GoPHNX.comreports.

Gallen threw only six pitches and failed to record an out before being pulled from the contest. More information should be available after Thursday's game, though he has battled hamstring tightness a few times this season, most recently on May 18.

  • Diamondbacks' Jake McCarthy: Not in Thursday's lineup

McCarthy is not in the lineup for Thursday's game against the Mets.

McCarthy had started each of the last three games against right-handed pitchers, but he'll begin this one on the bench as the Mets go with righty Christian Scott as their starter. Pavin Smith will hold down right field.

  • Diamondbacks' Blake Walston: Rewarded with another start

Walston is slated to start Saturday's game against the Mets at Citi Field.

Walston will stick around as the fifth member of Arizona's rotation after he blanked the Marlins over 4.2 innings while striking out four in his first MLB start Sunday. Though the 23-year-old southpaw came through with a passable showing in his first start, fantasy managers should tread carefully with Walston, who has struggled to keep his walks in check at nearly every rung of the minors. Though he issued just one free pass against Miami, Walston walked four batters in his MLB debut May 1, when he tossed 3.2 innings of long relief against the Dodgers.

  • Diamondbacks' Kevin Sim: Adjusting to pro ball

Sim is hitting .207/.261/.313 over 161 plate appearances for High-A Hillsboro.

Sim, taken 148th overall in the 2023 Draft, is adjusting to his first full season of professional baseball and is "working through some things with the hitting coaches," Arizona farm director Shaun Larkin told Steve Gilbert of MLB.com. "In my experience, the first professional season really is the hardest especially for college kids," Larkin said. "They're used to playing three-game series and four games a week. Here it's every night and they're not used to that. It's just a learning process for all of them." Thus far, Kim has maintained a two-position role, playing both first (25 games) and third base (13).

  • Diamondbacks' Jack Hurley: Refining plate approach

Hurley is batting .225/.296/.404 with five home runs and 23 RBI over 169 plate appearances at High-A Hillsboro.

Hurley, the 80th overall pick in 2023 out of Virginia, moved through three levels last season -- ACL, Low-A Visalia and Hillsboro -- and was returned to the Hops to start 2024. Arizona farm director Shaun Larkin emphasized to Steve Gilbert of MLB.com that Hurley has power potential but added the organization is working to refine his approach at the plate. Larkin noted the prospect tries to do too much, and that the organization wants to get him under control.

  • Diamondbacks' Caden Grice: Adjusting to pitching

Grice allowed three runs on six hits and two walks while striking out six over 4.2 innings for Low-A Visalia on Wednesday.

Grice was a two-way player at Clemson, but the Diamondbacks drafted the left-hander to become a pitcher, and he's adjusting to what it means to be a pitcher only. "He can throw his fastball and curveball for strikes, he's just trying to define himself as a pitcher and what that means," Arizona farm director Shaun Larkin told Steve Gilbert of MLB.com. "Whether it's his mechanics, pitch usage, pitch design, it's all relatively new for him pitching every fifth day, but he's trending really well in his developmental path." Through nine games (eight as a starter), Grice has a 4.63 ERA with 49 strikeouts and 17 walks over 35 innings for the Rawhide.

  • Diamondbacks' Jordan Lawlar: Begins rehab in ACL

Lawlar (thumb) started at shortstop and went 0-for-2 with a walk for the Diamondbacks' affiliate in the Arizona Complex League on Wednesday.

Lawlar began a rehab assignment Wednesday, playing five innings in the field. He's been working his way back from a ruptured UCL tendon in his right thumb, and his rehab recently involved at-bats at the team's training facility at Salt River Fields. The plan, as outlined by Arizona farm director Shaun Larkin to Alex Weiner of Arizona Sports, is for Lawlar to get in 2-to-3 weeks of game action before joining Triple-A Reno.

  • Diamondbacks' Geraldo Perdomo: Rehab games scheduled

Perdomo (knee) will play in the Arizona Complex League this weekend before heading out on a rehab assignment early next week, Arizona Sports reports.

Perdomo suffered a right meniscus tear April 3 and had surgery. The report does not indicate which minor-league affiliate he'll be joining or give an estimated number of reps he'll need. Perdomo will return as the Diamondbacks' starting shortstop, which has been handled by Blaze Alexander and Kevin Newman while Perdomo has been unavailable.
