  • Athletics' Tyler Soderstrom: Produces both of team's two runs

Soderstrom went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run in a loss to the Twins on Thursday.

Soderstrom got Oakland off to a strong start with a two-run blast in the second inning, but the team was unable to add any additional scores thereafter. The long ball gave the suddenly hot first baseman three homers over his past four games and extended his hitting streak to five contests. Soderstrom is slashing .353/.450/.882 with six RBI, five runs and a 3:2 BB:K over that stretch.

  • Athletics' Luis Medina: Mediocre performance in defeat

Medina (0-2) took the loss against Minnesota on Thursday, allowing four runs on eight hits and one walk while striking out three batters over five innings.

Medina had much better control after issuing five walks across 4.2 frames in his previous start, but his overall stat line wasn't significantly improved. The right-hander took his second straight loss Thursday, giving up a season-high eight hits while striking out just three batters. Medina looked great in his first start of the campaign June 2 against Atlanta with no earned runs allowed over 5.2 innings, but he's yielded 10 earned runs across 9.2 frames since.

  • Athletics' Max Schuemann: Getting day off

Schuemann is absent from the lineup for Thursday's game in Minnesota.

Schuemann wore the golden sombrero in Wednesday's loss to the Padres, so he will be given the day off Thursday to regroup. Aledmys Diaz will draw the start at shortstop.

  • Athletics' Shea Langeliers: Multi-hit effort in loss

Langeliers went 2-for-5 with an RBI single in a loss to the Padres on Wednesday.

Langeliers laced a sixth-inning single that drove home Miguel Andujar and knotted the score at 2-2 at the time. The multi-hit effort was Langeliers' first since May 30, and it only served to push the backstop's average in June to a paltry .156 across 33 plate appearances. The poor first half of the month can largely be attributed to Langeliers' difficulties making consistent contact, as he sports a bloated 39.4 percent strikeout rate thus far this month.

  • Athletics' JJ Bleday: On base three more times in loss

Bleday went 2-for-4 with a walk and a run in a loss to the Padres on Wednesday.

Both of Bleday's hits were singles, but Wednesday marked his second straight game reaching safely on three occasions after a brief 0-for-13 slump that had encompassed his previous three contests. Bleday has pushed his on-base percentage back up to a solid .326 with his frequent trips on the basepaths the last two nights, and he's also carrying a 19.6 percent strikeout rate.

  • Athletics' Zack Gelof: Timely double in loss

Gelof went 2-for-4 with an RBI double in a loss to the Padres on Wednesday.

Gelof's eighth-inning two-bagger brought home Seth Brown to extend the Athletics' lead to 4-2 at the time. The infielder now has a trio of two-hit efforts in the last seven games, but his 33.3 percent strikeout rate in that same span is emblematic of the persistent struggles that have led to his .194 average and .572 OPS across 203 plate appearances this season.

  • Athletics' Mason Miller: Hit with first loss

Miller (1-1) took the loss Wednesday, giving up a solo home run in one-third of an inning as the A's fell 5-4 to the Padres.

With one out in the bottom of the ninth inning, Jackson Merrill drove the first pitch he saw from Miller down the right-field line for a walk-off homer. The Oakland closer may be wearing down -- over his last eight appearances he's served up three long balls and been scored upon four times, leading to a 5.59 ERA, 1.34 WHIP and 14:6 K:BB through 9.2 innings during that stretch.

  • Athletics' Hogan Harris: Settles for no-decision Wednesday

Harris came away with a no-decision in Wednesday's 5-4 loss to the Padres, giving up two runs on four hits and a walk over five innings. He struck out five.

The southpaw was briefly in line for a win after the A's took the lead in the top of the sixth inning, but the bullpen fell apart late. The only damage off Harris came on two solo homers, marking the second time in three starts since moving into the rotation that he's served up multiple long balls. He'll take a 2.49 ERA, 1.11 WHIP and 23:9 K:BB through 25.1 innings into his next outing, which lines up to come at home early next week against the Royals.

  • Athletics' Brent Rooker: Getting day off amid slump

Rooker is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Padres.

Rooker will cede designated hitter duties to JJ Bleday and get a breather for the series finale after he had started in each of the Athletics' last 14 games. During that stretch, Rooker slashed just .196/.281/.392 with a 40.4 percent strikeout rate, so the day off could prove beneficial while he's in the midst of a slump at the dish.

  • Athletics' Daz Cameron: Drawing another start Wednesday

Cameron will start in center field and bat seventh in Wednesday's game against the Padres.

Set for his fourth start in five games, Cameron's playing time is on the upswing, but he probably hasn't done enough to take control of an everyday role just yet. He went 1-for-11 with three strikeouts over his prior three starts and is now slashing .200/.200/.314 in 35 plate appearances over 11 games for Oakland since getting a call-up from Triple-A Las Vegas on May 23.

  • Athletics' Michel Otanez: Sent back to minors

The Athletics optioned Otanez to Triple-A Las Vegas on Wednesday.

Otanez allowed one hit and one walk while retiring two batters in his lone appearance with the Athletics during his brief time in the majors. His spot on the roster and in the bullpen will be absorbed by right-hander Lucas Erceg (forearm), who was activated from the injured list.

  • Athletics' Lucas Erceg: Returns from stint on IL

The Athletics activated Erceg (forearm) from the 15-day injured list Wednesday.

Erceg spent the minimum amount of time on the IL and was able to skip a rehab assignment prior to being activated. He's been terrific in relief for Oakland this season, collecting a 2.86 ERA and 27:8 K:BB across 22 innings as the primary setup man ahead of closer Mason Miller.

  • Athletics' Scott Alexander: Hit with first loss Tuesday

Alexander (0-1) took the loss against the Padres on Tuesday, allowing an earned run on one hit and one walk over two-thirds of an inning.

Unfortunately for Alexander, the one hit he allowed was a walk-off solo home run to Kyle Higashioka, saddling the veteran southpaw with his first loss of the season. Alexander has now allowed an earned run in each of his last two appearances after generating four consecutive scoreless efforts of an inning apiece, but he's still carrying an acceptable 4.00 ERA and stellar 0.67 WHIP across the nine innings covering his 10 appearances.

  • Athletics' Tyler Soderstrom: Goes yard again

Soderstrom went 2-for-3 with a two-run home run and a walk in Tuesday's 4-3 loss to the Padres.

Soderstrom has homered in back-to-back games, giving him three long balls this season. He's also hit safely in five of his last six contests, going 6-for-17 (.353) in that span. The 22-year-old had struggled to get anything going earlier in the season, but he's now at a .222/.347/.413 slash line with three homers, eight RBI and five runs scored over 75 plate appearances. He appears to have leapfrogged J.D. Davis for the starting role at first base, though Soderstrom would still have the advantage if it ultimately becomes a platoon situation.

  • Athletics' Abraham Toro: Belts first-pitch homer

Toro went 2-for-5 with a solo home run in Tuesday's 4-3 loss to the Padres.

Toro got the game started right for the Athletics, taking Randy Vasquez's first pitch of the contest out to center field. The homer was Toro's sixth of the year, but his first since May 21. He's gone 6-for-26 (.231) over his last six games, though he's maintained steady playing time at third base and atop the order. He's slashing .268/.311/.402 with 24 RBI, 31 runs scored, 14 doubles, one triple and three stolen bases through 66 contests.
