Gore was excellent Friday, holding Miami to a lone second-inning run en route to his fourth win in his last five starts. It's the third double-digit strikeout outing for Gore this year as he lowered his ERA to 3.24 with a 1.32 WHIP and 91:23 K:BB through 14 starts (75 innings) this season. The left-hander is currently in line for a home matchup with the Diamondbacks in his next outing.

• Nationals' MacKenzie Gore: Start pushed back to Friday

  Gore won't start Thursday against the Tigers in Detroit as previously scheduled and will instead take the hill Friday versus the Marlins in Washington while he recovers from a fingernail issue, Mark Zuckerman of MASNSports.com reports. The Nationals will have Patrick Corbin take the hill Thursday in order to build in an extra day of recovery time for Gore. Though Gore is currently in line to take the hill Friday, fantasy managers will want to ensure he hasn't suffered a setback with the fingernail issue leading up to the series opener with Miami that may prompt the Nationals to push him back in the schedule. Gore will head into the weekend with a 5-5 record, 3.57 ERA and 1.37 WHIP through 68 innings on the season.

Gore delivered four shutout innings before he was ultimately charged with a run in each of the fifth and sixth innings. While he failed to make it through six innings for a third straight outing, it was a solid rebound effort from Gore after he was tagged for six runs in just 4.1 innings in his last start against the Mets.   Gore (4-5) took the loss Monday against the Mets, allowing six earned runs on seven hits and four walks in 4.1 innings. He struck out two. Gore loaded the bases with one out in the fifth inning before departing, unfortunately reliever Dylan Floro allowed all three runners to score, adding three earned runs to Gore's stat line. Monday's outing was very uncharacteristic for the southpaw, who recorded a season-low two strikeouts and allowed more than two earned runs for the first time since April 19. After tonight's rough outing, the 25-year-old sports a 3.57 ERA, a 1.37 WHIP and 74 strikeouts in 63 innings pitched. Gore will look to rebound in his next start, tentatively scheduled for this weekend versus Atlanta.

• Nationals' MacKenzie Gore: Labors through three frames

  Gore did not factor into the decision Sunday, allowing six runs (two earned) on six hits and two walks over three innings against the Blue Jays. He struck out four. Gore needed 76 pitches to get through three innings, with a second-inning grand slam by Vladimir Guerrero serving as the biggest blow. The silver lining for fantasy managers is that Guerrero's blast did not hurt Gore's stat line as two errors in the inning, including a fielding error by Gore, rendered each of those runs unearned. It was the shortest outing of the season for Gore, who has yet to allow more than three earned runs in any contest. He'll carry a 3.44 ERA into his next start, tentatively scheduled to take place next weekend when the Nationals travel to Fenway Park to take on the Red Sox.

Gore managed to keep the Rangers off the scoreboard for the first three innings, but an RBI single from Jonah Heim in the fourth followed by a fielder's choice in the fifth was all it took for Texas to take the lead over Washington and hand Gore his third consecutive loss. Despite his record, the 25-year-old lefty still owns a 3.19 ERA and 1.35 WHIP on the year and has struck out at least six batters in four of his six starts. He's projected to start on the mound again Sunday against Toronto.

Gore held the vaunted Dodgers offense mostly in check and notched his first quality start of the campaign, but he still was handed a loss as Washington's offense couldn't figure out Los Angeles starter Yoshinobu Yamamoto. The outing marked the first time this season Gore has completed six innings, and it was a nice bounce-back after he gave up three runs over a season-low four frames versus Houston his last time out. Gore holds a 3.12 ERA, 1.38 WHIP and 31:8 K:BB over 26 innings on the season.

All four hits they tallied were singles, and they never advanced past second base while the left-hander was in the game. Gore's 11 strikeouts tied a career high, and he picked up an impressive 20 swinging strikes on 90 pitches. With a 2.81 ERA and 23:5 K:BB over 16 innings, we could be looking at the beginning of a post-hype breakout season from the 25-year-old southpaw.

However, the 25-year-old lefty's arsenal showed increased velocity over last season as he averaged 97-mph on his fastball (up from 95-mph in 2023) and 91.7-mph on his slider (up from 88.6-mph in 2023). Gore also mixed in his changeup more than last season, throwing it 16.8 percent of the time Monday versus 3.0 percent in 2023. He looks for better results from his new arsenal in his next scheduled start, tentatively slated to be at home against the Phillies.

He did uncork a wild pitch, but Gore's control was impressive this early in the spring, as he fired 21 of 26 pitches for strikes against an experienced Miami lineup that included Luis Arraez and Jazz Chisholm. The 25-year-old lefty flashed upside last year with 151 strikeouts over 136.1 innings but also posted a 9.8 percent walk rate, so if he can improve his control, 2024 could end up being a breakout campaign for Gore.

Gore left his previous start early due to a cut fingernail and blister, but that didn't appear to be a problem for him Wednesday. Instead, Aaron Judge was the root of the hurler's struggles, as the slugger tagged him for a solo homer in the first inning and a grand slam in the second. The four runs that scored on the latter long ball were all unearned due to a two-out Washington error, keeping Gore's ERA from taking too big of a hit. Still, Gore hasn't picked up a victory in any of his past five starts and has posted a mediocre 4.38 ERA and 1.37 WHIP over 127.1 innings on the campaign.
