Orioles' Ryan O'Hearn: Idle against lefty
O'Hearn is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Reds. The lefty-hitting O'Hearn finds himself on the bench for the second day in a row while Cincinnati brings another southpaw (Nick Lodolo) to the hill. O'Hearn's absence will allow the Orioles to give infielder Gunnar Henderson a day off playing defense, as the third-year player instead serves as Baltimore's designated hitter.... See More ... Orioles' Ryan O'Hearn: Gets breather against lefty
O'Hearn isn't in the Orioles' lineup Saturday against the Reds, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports. O'Hearn will stay put in the Orioles' dugout as the Reds send out lefty Andrew Abbott to start on the mound. Adley Rutschman will serve as Baltimore's DH while O'Hearn rests, allowing James McCann to start behind the plate.... See More ... See Less -
Orioles' Ryan O'Hearn: Smacks homer in win
O'Hearn went 2-for-5 with a two-run home run in Friday's 3-0 win over the Reds. O'Hearn has hit safely in his last six games, going 8-for-19 (.421) in that span. The homer was his first since April 16, but the 30-year-old continues to demolish right-handed pitching. He's up to a .307/.381/.573 slash line with five homers, 11 RBI, 13 runs scored, three doubles and a triple over 84 plate appearances this season. He should continue to see a strong-side platoon role, mainly as the designated hitter but also with occasional looks in the corner outfield or at first base.... See More ... See Less -
Orioles' Ryan O'Hearn: Gets rest day against lefty
O'Hearn is out of the lineup for Thursday's game against the Yankees. The lefty-hitting O'Hearn will head to the bench for the series finale while the Yankees bring southpaw Carlos Rodon to the bump. O'Hearn is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Angels. The lefty-hitting O'Hearn will retreat to the bench while southpaw Tyler Anderson toes the rubber for the Angels. Orioles' Ryan O'Hearn: Gets breather against lefty
O'Hearn isn't in Baltimore's lineup for Saturday's game against Kansas City. The left-handed bat of O'Hearn will sit down Saturday as the Royals send fellow lefty Cole Ragans to the mound. His absence will move Adley Rutschman into the DH spot while James McCann starts behind the plate and bats eighth.... See More ... See Less -
Orioles' Ryan O'Hearn: Homers in third straight game
O'Hearn went 2-for-5 with a two-run home run in Tuesday's 11-3 win over Minnesota. O'Hearn provided the final blow in a lopsided Orioles victory, smacking a two-run homer that just cleared the center field wall to extend Baltimore's lead to 11-3 in the eighth inning. O'Hearn's now homered in three straight games while going 6-for-13 in that span. Overall, he's slashing .333/.400/.689 with four homers, 11 runs scored and six RBI through his first 14 games this season.... See More ... See Less -
Orioles' Ryan O'Hearn: Homers again Monday
O'Hearn went 2-for-5 with a solo home run and an additional run scored in Monday's 7-4 win over the Twins. O'Hearn has two homers and a pair of multi-hit efforts over his last two contests. The 30-year-old has carved out a strong-side platoon role at designated hitter while also seeing some time at first base. O'Hearn is quietly finding success in the heart of the Orioles' order, batting .325 with three homers, four RBI, nine runs scored, two doubles and a triple through 13 contests. He has not yet attempted a stolen base after swiping five bags in 112 games last year.... See More ... See Less -
Orioles' Ryan O'Hearn: Swats solo homer
O'Hearn went 2-for-3 with a solo home run and an additional RBI during Sunday's win over the Brewers. O'Hearn's hot start to 2024 continued Sunday, as he notched his 10th and 11th hits in 12 games played. He took Colin Rea yard in the third inning for a solo home run, marking his second long ball of the season -- both of which have come off right-handed pitching. With Baltimore expected to face three right-handed starters during a homestand against the Twins that starts Monday, O'Hearn should have plenty of opportunities to keep raking.... See More ... Orioles' Ryan O'Hearn: Sits against lefty
O'Hearn is not in Saturday's lineup against the Brewers. As is typically the case, O'Hearn will open the game on the bench with a lefty (DL Hall) on the hill for the opposition. Adley Rutschman is starting at designated hitter while James McCann starts behind the dish.... See More ... See Less -
Orioles' Ryan O'Hearn: Not starting against lefty
O'Hearn is out of the lineup Sunday versus the Angels. Left-hander Reid Detmers is starting for the Angels on Sunday, so Ryan Mountcastle will be at first base, and Adley Rutschman will serve as the designated hitter. Though he was out of the starting lineup Opening Day against a lefty, the first baseman was able to find an at-bat.... See More ... See Less -
Orioles' Ryan O'Hearn: Will play DH on Saturday
O'Hearn will start at designated hitter and bat fifth for Saturday's game against the Angels. Jordan Westburg got the start at DH in Thursday's season opener, but O'Hearn pinch hit in the seventh inning and went 1-for-1 with a double while scoring one run. Westburg will move to second base for Jorge Mateo as the Angels send out right-hander Griffin Canning for Saturday's contest.... See More ... See Less -
Orioles' Ryan O'Hearn: Not starting against lefty
O'Hearn is absent from the lineup for Thursday's season opener versus the Angels. O'Hearn will be a regular against righties, either at first base or DH.... See More ... See Less -
Orioles' Ryan O'Hearn: Avoids arbitration
O'Hearn signed a one-year, $3.5 million contract with the Orioles on Wednesday, avoiding arbitration, Mark Feinsand of MLB.com reports. The deal includes a $7.5 million club option for 2025. O'Hearn had been in his final year of arbitration eligibility, but the Orioles will now have the option to keep him around for what would have been his first year of free agency, as well. The 30-year-old had a surprise re-emergence with Baltimore in 2023, posting an .801 OPS with 14 homers in 112 games. He will see regular action against right-handers between first base and designated hitter.... See More ... See Less -

O'Hearn was limited to pinch-hitting work in the first two games of the series with the Rangers starting a pair of lefties, but he'll now get his first career postseason start as right-hander Nathan Eovaldi readies to take the mound in Texas. O'Hearn posted an .802 OPS in 339 plate appearances versus righties during the regular season.... See More ... See Less -
