Sears (4-6) allowed four runs on nine hits and four walks while striking out one over 4.1 innings to take the loss versus the Twins in Game 1 of Sunday's doubleheader.
Sears had gone five starts without giving up a home run, but his good fortune ended with Carlos Correa taking him deep twice and Royce Lewis adding another homer in this start. This was the fourth time in Sears' last eight starts that he's given up four runs. He's now at a 4.25 ERA, 1.25 WHIP and 55:28 K:BB through 82.2 innings over 15 outings this season. The southpaw is projected for a home rematch with the Twins in his next start.

Athletics' JP Sears: No-decision versus Padres
Sears allowed three runs on seven hits and three walks while striking out one over five innings in a no-decision versus the Padres on Tuesday.
Sears was in line for the loss after fading and allowing all three runs in the fifth inning, but Tyler Soderstrom tied the game in the eighth for the Athletics. This was Sears' first no-decision since May 14 -- he went 1-3 while allowing 11 runs (10 earned) over 23.1 innings across his previous four starts. The southpaw has a 4.02 ERA, 1.15 WHIP and 54:24 K:BB through 78.1 innings this season. He's projected to make his next start at Minnesota.

Athletics' JP Sears: Stuck with loss
Sears (4-5) took the loss Thursday against Seattle, allowing two runs on three hits and two walks across six innings. He struck out eight.
Sears turned in his fifth quality start of the season Thursday and tied his season high in strikeouts. However, the A's offense mustered up just two hits and didn't score, leaving the left-hander in the loss column for the third time in his last four appearances. While Sears missed plenty of bats, he located just 60 of his 101 pitches in the strike zone and hit a pair of batters. Overall, Sears owns a 3.93 ERA and 1.09 WHIP through 73.1 innings this season. He's scheduled to face the Padres in San Diego on Tuesday.

Sears (4-4) allowed four runs on six hits and two walks over seven innings Friday, striking out five and taking a loss against Atlanta.
Sears allowed three runs through two innings but settled in to give Oakland a decent outing. It wasn't enough, as the A's were limited to two runs in the loss. Sears has given up four runs in three of his last five starts, resulting in a 4.18 ERA during that span. He generated 14 whiffs Friday, his best total since recording a season-high 16 on April 27. Sears now owns a 4.01 ERA and a 45:19 K:BB through 67.1 innings. His next start is projected to be at home against the Mariners.

Athletics' JP Sears: Holds Houston in check Saturday
Sears (4-3) registered the victory Saturday versus the Astros, yielding just one unearned run on two hits and one walk across six frames. He struck out one batter.
The only run the Astros were able to muster off Sears scored in his final inning of work following a throwing error by shortstop Max Schuemann. Sears threw only 68 pitches over his six innings of work, but Athletics manager Mark Kotsay decided that was enough and turned to his bullpen to get the final nine outs. The lefty's next matchup projects to be a difficult one on the road in Atlanta.

Sears stumbled out of the gate by allowing two runs in the first inning but kept the Royals quiet until coughing up two more runs in the fifth. He's failed to complete at least six innings in three straight outings, posting a 5.40 ERA during that span. His ERA has climbed back up to 4.31 with a 39:16 K:BB through 54.1 innings. Sears has allowed at least four runs in five of his 10 starts this year but given up just two total runs in his other five appearances. Sears allowed a run on five hits and a walk while striking out two over five innings in a no-decision versus the Astros on Tuesday.
Sears' lone mistake was a solo home run by Alex Bregman in the second inning. While it wasn't the most efficient outing -- Sears threw 65 of 100 pitches for strikes -- it was a decent performance for a pitcher that's had few middle-of-the-road efforts so far. This was the fifth time he's allowed one or fewer runs, but he's given up four or more runs in each of his other four outings. Sears is at a 3.96 ERA, 1.14 WHIP and 35:14 K:BB through 50 innings, and he'll carry a 3-2 record into his next start, tentatively projected to be in Kansas City.
