Red Sox's David Hamilton: Dealing with side issue
Hamilton (side) exited Monday's contest against Toronto due to left side discomfort in the fourth inning, Mac Cerullo of the Boston Herald reports.
Hamilton was removed from the game in bottom of the fourth inning after striking out for a second time in the top of the frame. The shortstop may have tweaked something in his side in his final at-bat of the day. Romy Gonzalez and Ceddanne Rafaela could see more work at shortstop if Hamilton has to miss time.

Hamilton (undisclosed) was removed from Monday's contest with the Blue Jays in the bottom of the fourth inning, Ian Browne of MLB.com reports.
Hamilton struck out swinging in the top of the fourth inning, exiting the game prior to taking the field in the bottom of the frame. The 26-year-old will finish his day 0-for-2 with two punchouts and an update on his status will likely be provided before the conclusion of Monday's contest. In the meantime, Romy Gonzalez shifted over to shortstop while Enmanuel Valdez entered the lineup at second base.

Hamilton went 2-for-4 with one walk, one RBI, four stolen bases and three runs scored in Sunday's 9-3 win over the Yankees.
Hamilton led the charge as the Red Sox set a franchise record with nine steals in the contest. The speedy infielder has had great success on the basepaths lately, picking up nine steals over his last nine games. He's up to a .288/.340/.446 slash line with 18 thefts, four home runs, 12 RBI, 25 runs scored, eight doubles and a triple over 150 plate appearances this season.

Hamilton will get a breather as Boston squares off against southpaw Carlos Rodon. Hamilton singled and came around to score in the fifth inning then hit a two-run homer off Spencer Turnbull in the sixth. Hamilton has been on fire in June, notching his fourth straight multi-hit effort and hitting .333 with two home runs and four stolen bases in 10 games. Injuries have paved the way for Hamilton to receive regular playing time, but he has earned it by hitting .296 with four homers, 10 RBI and 13 steals over 135 plate appearances.

Hamilton went 2-for-4 with a double, a solo home run and an additional run during Sunday's 6-4 extra-inning win over the White Sox.
Hamilton clubbed his third home run of the season Sunday, taking Chris Flexen yard in the fifth inning. He also scored the game-tying run in the ninth, reaching on a double off Tanner Banks and stealing third base before scoring on a sac fly by Reese McGuire. Hamilton finished the four-game series against the White Sox having gone 6-for-17 (.353) with four stolen bases, two doubles, a homer and three runs scored.

Hamilton started at shortstop and went 2-for-4 with a stolen base in Saturday's 6-1 loss to the White Sox.
Hamilton got the start at shortstop, as Ceddanne Rafaela was needed in Boston's short-staffed outfield. Tyler O'Neill's balky knee will keep him out of Sunday's series finale, which likely means another start for Hamilton. He's stolen three bases over the last two games and has 12 over 40 games.

Hamilton entered Friday's game after Tyler O'Neill (knee) was removed and went 0-for-3 with two steals in a 7-2 loss to the White Sox.
After O'Neill's removal, the Red Sox made several adjustments, including Hamilton entering at shortstop and Ceddanne Rafaela moving to the outfield. Hamilton now has 11 steals for the season, second on the team. The Red Sox are dealing with several outfield injuries -- O'Neill, Wilyer Abreu (ankle) and Masataka Yoshida (thumb) -- and may not be able to get by with Rafaela at shortstop in the short term. In that event, Hamilton could be a regular at short.

Hamilton started at shortstop and went 1-for-3 with two steals in Sunday's 2-1 win over Milwaukee.
Hamilton has hit well since the middle of the month, going 10-for-30 with five extra-base hits and three steals over the last 10 games. As long as the bat holds up, there should be avenues to playing time for him; if not at shortstop, then second base where Vaughn Grissom has not taken hold of an everyday job.
