Top Corey Julks News

  • White Sox's Corey Julks: Productive start to time with Sox

Julks went 1-for-3 with two RBI, a walk and a stolen base Tuesday against the Blue Jays.

Julks was dealt to the White Sox on May 15 after being designated for assignment by the Astros and was recalled to the big-league club two days later. He's made three starts in five games since and gone 4-for-11 with a run scored, three RBI and two stolen bases. Julks could see a more consistent role moving forward if Eloy Jimenez (hamstring) is forced to miss time.

  • White Sox's Corey Julks: Homers in second game with new club

Julks went 2-for-3 with a solo home run and a walk Sunday against the Yankees.

Making his second start since being acquired from the Astros on May 15, Julks' solo homer in the second put the White Sox on the board and provided what turned out to be a short-lived lead for the Pale Hose. Julks later added a single, giving him three hits through two games in Chicago. Julks batted .245 with six homers and 15 steals over 323 plate appearances last season with the Astros and figures to see some action against lefties on the short side of a platoon, at least until Luis Robert (hip) returns to the lineup.

  • White Sox's Corey Julks: Recalled to majors

Julks was recalled from Triple-A Charlotte by the White Sox on Friday.

After being traded to the White Sox from the Astros on Wednesday, Julks will now be called up just two days later. The 28-year-old recorded two hits and one run in seven plate appearances across two games with Chicago's Triple-A affiliate in Charlotte after being traded, and he slashed .266/.358/.444 with five home runs with Triple-A Sugar Land prior to the deal.

  • White Sox's Corey Julks: Traded to White Sox

The White Sox acquired Julks from the Astros on Wednesday in exchange for right-hander Luis Rodriguez.

Julks had been designated for assignment by Houston but has now landed in a more favorable organization from a playing-time perspective. The 28-year-old will report to Triple-A Charlotte for now, but he should have a clearer bath to resurfacing in the majors in Chicago compared to Houston. Julks slashed .245/.297/.352 with six home runs and 15 stolen bases over 93 games with the Astros last season but has spent all of 2024 at Triple-A Sugar Land, batting .266/.358/.444 with five home runs.

  • Astros' Corey Julks: DFA'd by Houston

Julks was designated for assignment by the Astros on Friday, Julia Morales of AT&T SportsNet Southwest reports.

Julks missed out on the Astros' Opening Day roster and has now lost his place on the 40-man roster. The 28-year-old slashed .266/.358/.444 with five home runs and 15 RBI in 31 games with Sugar Land, and he could remain with the affiliate if he passes through waivers unclaimed.

  • Astros' Corey Julks: Sent down to minors

The Astros optioned Julks to Triple-A Sugar Land on Wednesday.

Julks spent the bulk of the 2023 season in the majors but came up short for an Opening Day roster spot this year. The 28-year-old will play corner outfield with Sugar Land and hope to get another shot with the big club sooner rather than later.

  • Astros' Corey Julks: May not begin season in majors

Julks may not make the Opening Day roster due to his lack of defensive value, Chandler Rome of The Athletic reports.

Julks has hit well this spring, maintaining a .308/.333/.577 line across 27 plate appearances while striking out twice. That gives him a strong case to crack the Opening Day roster, but the team has Mauricio Dubon as a bench player capable of playing the outfield. Grae Kessinger could ultimately get the nod instead, as he can play every infield position except catcher.

  • Astros' Corey Julks: Sent back to Triple-A

Houston optioned Julks to Triple-A Sugar Land on Tuesday.

This is the corresponding 26-man roster move for Michael Brantley (shoulder) as he returns from the 60-day injured list. Julks has batted just .245/.297/.352 through his first 323 major-league plate appearances in 2023.

  • Astros' Corey Julks: Back in big leagues

Julks was called up by the Astros on Saturday, Chandler Rome of The Athletic reports.

Julks will take the spot that had belonged to Grae Kessinger, who landed on the injured list due to health and safety protocols. Julks provided a bit of fantasy value as a 27-year-old rookie prior to his demotion in early August with his 15 steals, but his .245/.299/.353 slash line (81 wRC+) wasn't good enough to keep him in a regular role.

  • Astros' Corey Julks: Demoted to minors amid slump

Julks was optioned to Triple-A Sugar Land on Monday, Chandler Rome of The Athletic reports.

Julks has made more starts in left field than any other Astro this season, but he had been hitless across his last 36 at-bats and hadn't homered since June 18, which has resulted in a trip back to the minors. Chas McCormick should see most of the action in left moving forward, with Jake Meyers handling center.

Julks is still without a hit over his last 41 plate appearances and appears to have lost his hold on the Astros' left field job. Chas McCormick is manning left field again Friday as Jake Meyers covers center.

Julks isn't in the Astros' lineup Saturday versus Tampa Bay, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports.

Julks has been in a major 0-for-27 slump at the plate over his last nine games, so he'll get a day off Saturday to regroup. Yordan Alvarez will fill in as Houston's left fielder, Chas McCormick will serve as the DH and Jake Meyers will start in center.

  • Astros' Corey Julks: Hits bench Monday

Julks is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Rangers.

Julks started each of Houston's last six games, going just 1-for-21 with three walks against five strikeouts during that stretch. Though he's been able to hold down a near-everyday role for a large chunk of the season, Julks could be in danger of seeing his playing time take a hit later this week, when Yordan Alvarez (oblique) is likely to return from the 10-day injured list.

Julks went 3-for-3 with a double, one RBI and a stolen base in Thursday's 5-1 loss to the Mariners.

Julks was one of two Astros with multiple hits and the only one to drive in a run in the loss. He's on a tear with multiple hits in four straight contests, going 11-for-16 (.688) with three steals in that impressive span. Each good performance further solidifies his place in the lineup. The left fielder is slashing .289/.333/.418 with six home runs, 29 RBI, 34 runs scored, 15 stolen bases and 12 doubles through 67 contests this season.

Julks has gotten on base multiple times in six of his last 11 starts, maintaining an impressive .413 on-base percentage. He's shown improved patience, as he's drawn six free passes in that span after working only nine walks across his first 53 games of the campaign. Julks is still getting on base at a .308 clip across 237 plate appearances, though he has chipped in 13 stolen bases and six home runs.
