  • Orioles' Kyle Bradish: No health concerns, but start TBD

Orioles manager Brandon Hyde said Thursday that the decision to push Bradish's next start back isn't related to health concerns, Matt Weyrich of The Baltimore Sun reports.

Cade Povich was called up from Triple-A Norfolk to start Thursday versus the Blue Jays in what would have been Bradish's turn, but the move was designed simply to give Bradish extra rest. Hyde wasn't ready to commit to when Bradish would make his next start, however, as the Orioles haven't confirmed any of their four starters for their upcoming series with the Rays that begins Friday. Bradish could take the ball one of those days, but having his turn skipped entirely is also a possibility. The right-hander has been excellent overall since coming off the injured list in early May, but he stumbled his last time out, allowing five runs over just 2.2 innings in a no-decision against the Rays last Saturday.

  • Orioles' Jorge Mateo: Plays catch Thursday

Mateo (concussion) played catch on the field at Rogers Centre in Toronto on Thursday, Matt Weyrich of The Baltimore Sun reports.

Mateo was placed on the 7-day concussion injured list Monday after his teammate, Cedric Mullins, inadvertently hit him with the bat in the back of the helmet while on the on-deck circle. It's not clear yet whether Mateo will have a chance to return when first eligible on June 10, but him being able to travel with the team and take part in some baseball activities is a good sign.

  • Orioles' Ryan O'Hearn: Absent from lineup versus lefty

O'Hearn isn't in the lineup for Thursday's game in Toronto.

Southpaw Yusei Kikuchi is drawing the start for the Blue Jays, which means the lefty-hitting O'Hearn will head to the bench for the series finale. Adley Rutschman will get a start at designated hitter while James McCann handles the catching duties.

  • Orioles' Cedric Mullins: Out against left-hander

Mullins is absent from the lineup for Thursday's contest in Toronto.

The last time Mullins made a start against a lefty came back on May 15 against Yusei Kikuchi. Kikuchi is on the mound again for Thursday's tilt, but Mullins will begin the series finale on the bench. Colton Cowser will patrol center field Thursday while Austin Hays handles left field.

  • Orioles' Nick Vespi: Sent back to minors

The Orioles optioned Vespi to Triple-A Norfolk on Thursday.

Vespi's latest stint with the big club lasted just three days, with the lefty reliever tossing a scoreless inning during his lone appearance Tuesday versus the Blue Jays. He'll cede his spot on the 26-man active roster to left-hander Cade Povich, who was called up from Norfolk to start Thursday's series finale in Toronto.

  • Orioles' Cade Povich: Added to roster ahead of debut

The Orioles selected Povich's contract from Triple-A Norfolk ahead of his start Thursday against the Blue Jays in Toronto.

Povich will be making his major-league debut Thursday as the Orioles give the other members of their rotation some extra rest. The rookie left-hander isn't necessarily guaranteed another start with the big club beyond Thursday, but he could certainly earn additional chances if he pitches well against the Blue Jays. Povich has put up a 3.18 ERA and 75:21 K:BB over 56.2 innings covering 11 starts this season with Norfolk.

  • Orioles' Cedric Mullins: Collects 12th steal

Mullins went 0-for-3 with a walk, a stolen base and one run scored in Wednesday's 3-2 loss to the Blue Jays.

Mullins has seen his playing time dip amid his prolonged struggles at the plate. He's gone just 9-for-73 (.123) with a 3:24 BB:K over 26 contests since the start of May, though he has managed to pick up six steals in that span despite his troubles getting on base. Mullins is slashing a meager .178/.225/.314 with 12 steals, six home runs, 22 RBI and 23 runs scored over 182 plate appearances this year. Austin Hays and Colton Cowser have been the main players to benefit from Mullins' decreased playing time, and the Orioles aren't short on prospects to call up if they choose to mix up the composition of outfielders on their roster.

  • Orioles' Craig Kimbrel: Handed loss Wednesday

Kimbrel (4-2) allowed an unearned run on two hits over one-third of an inning, taking the loss Wednesday versus the Blue Jays.

Isiah Kiner-Falefa delivered a walk-off single in the ninth inning to hand Kimbrel his first loss since April 28. This also ended Kimbrel's scoreless streak at 7.2 innings, though he hasn't given up an earned run since May 8. The closer has a 2.95 ERA, 1.03 WHIP, 31:9 K:BB and 13 saves in 16 chances through 21.1 innings this season.

  • Orioles' Anthony Santander: Continues power surge

Santander went 1-for-3 with a solo home run and a walk in Wednesday's loss to the Blue Jays.

Santander produced the first run of the contest with his solo shot to right field in the second inning. He's gone deep in three of his past five contests to push his season total to 12 long balls. Santander is also working on an eight-game hitting streak during which he's gone 11-for-30 (.367 average) with three homers, six RBI and seven runs.

  • Orioles' Albert Suarez: Continues solid pitching as starter

Suarez allowed two runs on five hits and one walk while striking out four batters over five innings in a no-decision against Toronto on Wednesday.

Suarez remained in the rotation for a third straight start and did a good job of keeping Baltimore in the contest with five strong frames. The only damage against him came in the second inning, when he surrendered two runs -- twice as many as he had allowed in his previous two starts combined. Suarez has posted a 1.93 ERA across 14 innings since rejoining the Orioles rotation May 25. He figures to get at least one more start, and possibly more, since Dean Kremer (triceps) has not yet begun a rehab assignment.

  • Orioles' Cade Povich: Starting Thursday

The Orioles will recall Povich from Triple-A Norfolk to start Thursday against the Blue Jays in Toronto, Steve Melewski of MASNSports.com reports.

Povich joined the Orioles' taxi squad Wednesday and will now be called upon to make his MLB debut in Toronto, with his addition providing right-hander Kyle Bradish with an extra day of rest between starts. The 24-year-old Povich has spent all season with Norfolk, posting a 3.18 ERA and 1.12 WHIP to go with a 75:21 K:BB through 56.2 innings across 11 starts. Given the amount of talent the Orioles already have in their rotation, it's unlikely the left-hander's stint with Baltimore extends past Thursday.

  • Orioles' Connor Norby: Not in Wednesday's lineup

Norby is absent from the lineup for Thursday's contest in Toronto.

Norby started the first two games of the series and cranked his first major league home run (and hit) Tuesday, but he'll begin Wednesday's festivities on the bench. Jordan Westburg will play second base while Ramon Urias gets a start at third base.

  • Orioles' Austin Hays: Absent from lineup

Hays is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game in Toronto.

Hays went 3-for-7 with two home runs and a double in the first two games of the series, but he'll be given a breather for Wednesday's contest. Kyle Stowers will take over as the Orioles' starting left fielder.

  • Orioles' Colton Cowser: Exits starting lineup

Cowser is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game in Toronto.

Cowser has struggled over the last few weeks, producing a .431 OPS in his past 15 games. He'll be given a day off to regroup while Kyle Stowers starts in left field and Cedric Mullins covers center field.

  • Orioles' Kyle Bradish: Start could be pushed to Friday

The Orioles are considering pushing Bradish's next scheduled start back a day to Friday in Tampa Bay, Danielle Allentuck of TheBaltimoreBanner.com reports.

Cade Povich will join Baltimore's taxi squad and looks in line to be called up from Triple-A Norfolk to start against the Blue Jays on Thursday, which had been Bradish's turn. Bradish doesn't seem to be battling any physical issue, but rather the team is simply looking to give him a little extra rest. Bradish is coming off his worst start of the season, having allowed five runs on seven hits and three walks over 2.2 frames against the Rays this past Saturday.

  • Orioles' Cade Povich: On taxi squad, could pitch Thursday

Povich is headed to Toronto to join the Orioles' taxi squad and could be called up from Triple-A Norfolk to start Thursday's series finale versus the Blue Jays, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports.

Kyle Bradish is on turn to start Thursday's series finale in Toronto, but the Orioles are considering handing that assignment to Povich and giving Bradish an extra day of rest. If Povich gets the nod Thursday, it would mark his MLB debut. He's had a dominant 2024 season with Norfolk, posting a 3.18 ERA and 75:21 K:BB over 56.2 innings covering 11 starts.

  • Orioles' Corbin Burnes: Snares another win

Burnes (6-2) picked up the win Tuesday against Toronto, allowing one run on four hits and one walk across seven innings. He struck out five.

The lone run against Burnes came on a George Springer solo homer in the seventh frame. Burnes hasn't allowed more than three runs in a start this season and has logged eight straight quality starts. On the year, Burnes owns a 2.25 ERA with 76 strikeouts across 79.2 innings and is tied for the league lead in quality starts. Burnes is scheduled for a road start against the Rays on Sunday.
