  • Athletics' Osvaldo Bido: Returns to action at Triple-A

Bido (finger) started Saturday for Triple-A Las Vegas in the club's 11-3 loss to El Paso, covering four innings and striking out three while allowing four earned runs on five hits and two walks.

After being called up from Las Vegas on May 8, Bido started the second game of the Athletics' doubleheader with the Rangers that day but exited midway through the third inning after developing a blister on his pitching hand. He was returned to Las Vegas two days later, but he didn't start last week while he was given more time to heal up from the finger issue. Ostensibly healthy again, Bido should continue to make regular turns out of the Las Vegas rotation but will be near the top of the list for a call-up if the Athletics should require a spot starter again.

  • Athletics' Tyler Nevin: Losing out on playing time

Nevin is out of the lineup for Thursday's game against the Rockies.

Nevin seems to have lost hold of an everyday role in the Oakland outfield; he's now been on the bench in five consecutive matchups versus right-handed pitching. The 26-year-old should at least continue to see regular starts against left-handed pitching as a platoon mate for the lefty-hitting Seth Brown.

  • Athletics' Tyler Soderstrom: Sitting against right-hander

Soderstrom is out of the lineup for Thursday's game against the Rockies.

Soderstrom had started each of the previous six games against right-handers, but he'll begin Thursday's contest on the bench as the Athletics take on righty Ryan Feltner. Soderstrom sports a .689 OPS and 42.1 percent strikeout rate in 11 contests with the big club this season. J.D. Davis will cover first base Thursday in Soderstrom's stead.

  • Athletics' Shea Langeliers: Day off Thursday

Langeliers is absent from the lineup for Thursday's contest against the Rockies.

Langeliers will get a breather for the day game after catching both of the first two games of the series. Kyle McCann will be behind the dish for the Athletics on Thursday.

  • Athletics' Jordan Diaz: Removed from 40-man roster

The Athletics designated Diaz for assignment Thursday.

At multiple points in the 2022 and 2023 seasons, Diaz looked to bea mainstay in Oakland's lineup, but he failed to make the Opening Day roster coming out of spring training and struggled to get going at a hitter-friendly environment at Triple-A Las Vegas, slashing just .204/.288/.327 over 111 plate appearances. He's still just 23 years old, so Diaz could draw interest on waivers from a team that thinks it might be able to help him tap back into the promise he displayed earlier in his career.

  • Athletics' Daz Cameron: Promoted from Triple-A

The Athletics selected Cameron's contract from Triple-A Las Vegas on Thursday.

Cameron, 27, has slashed a robust .307/.424/.577 with six home runs and eight stolen bases over 41 contests with Las Vegas this season. Keep in mind, however, that Las Vegas is a favorable hitting environment, and in 73 games at the major-league level, Cameron has slashed a meager .201/.266/.330. He was called up to take the spot on the 26-man active roster that was vacated by Esteury Ruiz (wrist), who was placed on the 10-day injured list. The right-handed-hitting Cameron could settle in as a short-side platoon option in the outfield.

  • Athletics' Zack Gelof: Rare multi-hit effort Wednesday

Gelof went 2-for-5 with a game-tying RBI single in an extra-innings loss to the Rockies on Wednesday.

After knotting the game at 2-2 in the bottom of the ninth with his timely knock, Gelof also drove in Shea Langeliers with a double-play groundout in the 12th but didn't get credited with an RBI since the Athletics' backstop was the extra-inning-opening runner. Nevertheless, Gelfo did extend his on-base streak to four games with his multi-hit effort, his first since April 21. Despite the recent modest success, Gelof's slash line sits at a paltry .192/.260/.308 across 132 plate appearances, with a strikeout rate that's shot up from a rookie figure of 27.3 percent to 34.1 percent partly to blame for his struggles.

  • Athletics' Esteury Ruiz: Lands on IL with strained wrist

The Athletics placed Ruiz on the 10-day injured list Thursday with a strained left wrist, Martin Gallegos of MLB.com reports.

It's not clear when or how Ruiz suffered the injury, but he'll be sidelined for at least the next week and a half. Ruiz had made just two starts over Oakland's last 13 games and is only 2-for-19 with 10 strikeouts at the plate in May.

  • Athletics' Kyle Muller: Takes first loss Wednesday

Muller (0-1) took the loss in an extra-innings defeat at the hands of the Rockies on Wednesday, allowing two runs (one earned) on two hits over one inning.

Muller was entrusted with preserving a 2-2 tie when he entered in the 12th inning, but he faltered almost immediately by giving up a go-ahead two-run home run to Ryan McMahon with inning-opening runner Jake Cave aboard. Oakland would halve its two-run deficit in the home half of the frame but fall short of knotting the score back up, saddling Muller with his first loss. The southpaw sports a respectable 3.94 ERA and 1.18 WHIP, but he's allowed at least one run in nine of his 12 appearances.

  • Athletics' Miguel Andujar: Rehab assignment continuing

Andujar (knee) is slated to remain at Triple-A Las Vegas for several more rehab games, per the Associated Press, and he went 0-for-4 with a walk in the Aviators' loss to Tacoma on Wednesday.

Andujar put in a full game's worth of plate appearances at designated hitter, and he's apparently set to spend at least a few more days with Las Vegas before activation is considered. The veteran has played four games with the Aviators so far, hitting .357 (5-for-14) with three doubles, five RBI, Wednesday's walk and a run. However, he's only played defense in one of those contests, logging six innings in left field against El Paso on Saturday.

  • Athletics' Joe Boyle: Rehab assignment imminent

Boyle (back) is set to begin a rehab assignment at Triple-A Las Vegas in coming days, the Associated Press reports.

Boyle completed a "two-up" bullpen session Sunday that apparently went well, given the news of a rehab assignment serving as his next step. The right-hander was placed on the injured list May 6 after being lifted from a start against the Marlins a day earlier due to the injury, and he may need only one or two rehab starts before being deemed ready for activation.

  • Athletics' Luis Medina: Lit up in Vegas rehab start

Medina (knee) started Triple-A Las Vegas' loss to Tacoma on Wednesday, allowing five earned runs on four hits, a walk, a wild pitch and a hit batsman over 2.1 innings. He struck out one.

Medina moved up from the Athletics' rookie-level AZL club after opening his rehab assignment there May 15, and as his line indicates, the results were far from encouraging. Medina had a similarly difficult time in his first rehab start against a much lower caliber of competition, so it's clear he has plenty of kinks to work out before a move to the big-league club can be considered. Given Wednesday's results, it remains to be seen if Medina will be shifted to a lower-level affiliate for his next rehab appearance in an effort to allow him to build some confidence and momentum.

  • Athletics' JJ Bleday: Solo homer in loss

Bleday went 1-for-5 with a solo homer in Wednesday's extra-innings loss to the Rockies.

Bleday lifted a solo homer off Austin Gomber in his second at-bat of the game to cut the Rockies' lead to one run, while also extending his hitting streak to five games. It was the outfielder's sixth home run this season and third in the month of May, where he's now batting .250 with 10 RBI and 10 runs scored. Bleday has also scored a run in three straight games.

  • Athletics' Max Muncy: On IL with hand injury

Triple-A Las Vegas placed Muncy (hand) on the 7-day injured list May 17, Athletics Farm reports.

This is Muncy's second IL stint of the season, as he was also shelved with an injury from April 24 through May 10. Per the report, Muncy isn't doing much baseball-related activity, so he might not be ready to return when eligible this weekend. The middle infielder is slashing .274/.379/.438 with two home runs, three steals and a 23 percent strikeout rate in 22 games. Muncy, 21, is the fifth-youngest hitter with at least 80 plate appearances at Triple-A.

  • Athletics' Sean Newcomb: On rehab assignment

Newcomb (knee) allowed two runs over one innings in his first rehab appearance with Triple-A Las Vegas on Wednesday.

Newcomb had his first rehab outing over the weekend with the Arizona Complex League Athletics before moving up to a higher affiliate. Making his way back from left knee inflammation, Newcomb will probably need a few more rehab appearances before Oakland adds him to their active roster.

  • Athletics' Mitch Spence: Lasts three frames in no-decision

Spence did not factor into the decision in a loss to the Rockies on Wednesday, allowing two runs on five hits and three walks over three innings while striking out four.

Spence got knocked around early, surrendering a leadoff single to Charlie Blackmon to open the contest, followed by a two-run shot off the bat of Elias Diaz three batters later. Those would be the only two runs allowed by the right-hander on the night, though he continued to struggle with his command, needing 27 pitches to get through the third inning alone. Spence has been unable to get through five innings in either of his first two starts and also matched his season high with three walks Wednesday.

  • Athletics' Tyler Soderstrom: On bench versus southpaw

Soderstrom is not in the lineup for Wednesday's game versus Colorado.

Soderstrom started the previous three games but will sit Wednesday as lefty Austin Gomber pitches for the Rockies. J.D. Davis will handle first base and bat fifth.

  • Athletics' Seth Brown: Sitting versus southpaw

Brown is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Rockies.

Brown hasn't started against a left-handed pitcher all season, and that trend will continue Wednesday as Austin Gomber takes the mound for Colorado. Tyler Nevin will take over in right field and bat seventh.
