  • Yankees' Juan Soto: Set for imaging

Soto (forearm) will undergo imaging on Friday after experiencing forearm soreness during Thursday's game against the Twins, Gary Phillips of the New York Daily News reports.

Soto didn't return to Thursday's game after a lengthy rain delay. The move was framed as a precaution by manager Aaron Boone, though he also disclosed that Soto has been bothered by forearm discomfort for the last week. It wouldn't be a surprise to see the Yankees be cautious with Soto in the short term, though the team has not announced any official plans.

  • Yankees' Juan Soto: Early exit Thursday

Soto exited Thursday's game against the Twins in the sixth inning due to left forearm discomfort, David Lennon of Newsday reports.

Soto didn't return to the field after a lengthy rain delay, though the exact nature or cause of the injury is unclear for the time being. Alex Verdugo entered the game in left field, with Aaron Judge shifting to right.

  • Yankees' DJ LeMahieu: Day off

LeMahieu is not in the lineup for Thursday's contest versus the Twins.

LeMahieu has now started seven of nine games since his return from the injured list but has gone just 4-for-22 (all singles) at the plate during that stretch. Oswaldo Cabrera will get the call at third base for the Yankees on Thursday.

  • Yankees' Alex Verdugo: Sitting out Thursday

Verdugo is absent from the lineup for Thursday's game versus the Twins.

It's a rare day off for Verdugo, who is hitless in eight plate appearances in the first two games of the series, although he did contribute a sacrifice fly in Wednesday's contest. Aaron Judge will slide over to left field Thursday while Trent Grisham patrols center.

  • Yankees' Anthony Volpe: Tallies three hits in victory

Volpe went 3-for-5 with a triple and two runs against Minnesota in a 9-5 win Wednesday.

Volpe was responsible for one-third of the Yankees' nine hits in the victory, and he scored twice from atop the team's lineup. It was the fifth time this season the second-year shortstop has collected three or more hits in a game. Volpe had a 21-game hitting streak snapped May 30, but he's picked things right up since then, building a five-game hitting streak during which he's batted .364 (8-for-22).

  • Yankees' Aaron Judge: Drives in five Wednesday

Judge went 1-for-3 with a triple, a walk and five RBI in Wednesday's 9-5 win against Minnesota.

Judge broke the game open in the fifth inning, lacing a bases-loaded triple to left field to give New York a 7-0 lead. It was the slugger's first triple since 2019 and just the fifth of his career as a big-leaguer. Judge had already plated a run with a groundout in the first inning, and he added an RBI with a bases-loaded walk in the sixth frame to give him his first five-RBI performance of the campaign. He now ranks second in the majors with 54 runs batted in this season.

  • Yankees' Carlos Rodon: Secures sixth straight victory

Rodon (8-2) earned the win over Minnesota on Wednesday, allowing two runs on three hits and no walks while striking out nine batters.

Rodon was staked to a 4-0 lead after the first inning and never looked back, keeping alive a perfect game until Carlos Santana homered with one out in the sixth frame. The left-handed hurler picked up his sixth consecutive win, and he's notched a quality start in each of those victories. Rodon also dominated with 18 swinging strikes Wednesday en route to a season-high nine punchouts. He's bounced back from a disastrous first year in New York last season to post a 3.08 ERA, 1.08 WHIP and 71:20 K:BB through 73 innings during the current campaign.

  • Yankees' Ben Rice: Bumped up to Triple-A

The Yankees promoted Rice from Double-A Somerset to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Wednesday.

The 25-year-old catching prospect will move up to the highest level of the minors after he slashed .261/.382/.511 with 12 home runs and eight stolen bases in 217 plate appearances for Somerset. Rice isn't on the Yankees' 40-man roster and looks to be behind Austin Wells, Jose Trevino and Carlos Narvaez on the organizational catching depth chart, so it may take an injury or two before Rice gets the chance to make his big-league debut.

  • Yankees' Tyler Hardman: Completes Tommy John recovery

Double-A Somerset reinstated Hardman (elbow) from the 60-day injured list May 27 and assigned him to High-A Hudson Valley.

Hardman finished the 2023 season at Somerset, but he'll get some more time at Hudson Valley to regain form at the plate while he eases back into the mix following Tommy John surgery, which he underwent last October. Through his first 10 games at the High-A level, Hardman is hitting .231 with three extra-base hits and a 39.5 percent strikeout rate.

  • Yankees' Gleyber Torres: Pops fifth homer

Torres went 1-for-3 with a solo home run in Tuesday's 5-1 win over the Twins.

He took Bailey Ober deep in the second inning to get the Yankees on the board, giving Torres his fifth long ball of the year. The second baseman has hit safely in five straight games and 10 of the last 11 as he shows signs of emerging from his season-long slump -- over that 11-game stretch he's slashing .297/.372/.514 with two doubles and two homers.

  • Yankees' Luis Gil: Cruises to eighth win

Gil (8-1) picked up the win Tuesday, allowing one hit and three walks over six scoreless innings in a 5-1 victory over the Twins. He struck out six.

The 26-year-old didn't miss a beat after being named the American League Rookie and Pitcher of the Month for May. Gil extended his quality-start streak to seven with the performance, and he's won all seven of those outings with an eye-popping 0.60 ERA, 0.67 WHIP and 50:15 K:BB through 44.2 innings. He'll look to keep rolling in his next start, which is scheduled to be a marquee matchup against the Dodgers in Yankee Stadium this weekend.

  • Yankees' Gerrit Cole: Excels in first rehab start

Cole (elbow) completed 3.1 scoreless innings in a minor-league rehab start with Double-A Somerset on Tuesday, allowing two hits and striking out five batters.

In the first of what is expected to be multiple rehab outings, Cole threw 45 pitches and hit 97 miles per hour on the radar gun, per Brendan Kuty of The Athletic. The veteran hurler surrendered a single to the first batter he faced but yielded just one more hit over the remainder of his outing. The beginning of Cole's rehab stint couldn't have gone much better, but he's still expected to need at least a couple more appearances in the minors before he's ready to join the Yankees rotation. If he doesn't experience any setbacks, the reigning AL Cy Young Award winner could make his season debut for the big club in the latter half of June.

  • Yankees' Gerrit Cole: Needs multiple rehab starts

Yankees manager Aaron Boone said Tuesday that Cole (elbow) will require "at least a few" minor-league rehab starts before returning from the 60-day injured list, Chris Kirschner of The Athletic reports.

Cole will make his first rehab start Tuesday with Double-A Somerset and is slated to throw 40-to-50 pitches in that outing. Assuming he adds around 10-to-15 pitches to each of his subsequent rehab starts, the righty would presumably require two additional outings at a minimum after Tuesday's appearance before slotting back into the Yankees rotation. With that in mind, Cole doesn't appear on track to make his 2024 Yankees debut until at least late June, provided he checks out fine physically during his rehab assignment. Cole is working his way back from nerve irritation and edema in his right elbow.

  • Yankees' Austin Wells: Idle Tuesday

Wells is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against Minnesota.

Wells won't start Tuesday's game despite the Twins trotting out a right-handed pitcher. Instead, Jose Trevino will catch and bat eighth.
