  • Rays' Isaac Paredes: Plates two Wednesday

Paredes went 2-for-4 with two RBI doubles and a run during Wednesday's 5-3 win over the Marlins.

Paredes did his damage early, tagging Braxton Garrett for RBI doubles in the first and third innings Wednesday. With the pair of doubles, Paredes extended his hit streak to seven games. During that stretch, Paredes is batting .310 with eight RBI and five runs scored.

  • Rays' Pete Fairbanks: Perfect for Save No. 8

Fairbanks picked up the save Wednesday against Miami, striking out one over a perfect inning.

Fairbanks tossed a perfect inning for the second consecutive night and extended his streak of appearances without an earned run to 12. He's allowed just seven hits and two walks during that stretch with 11 punchouts. Despite a nearly three-week IL stint, Fairbanks has eight saves in nine attempts and owns a 3.32 ERA overall.

  • Rays' Zach Eflin: Goes four innings in return

Eflin didn't factor into the decision Wednesday against the Marlins, allowing two runs on three hits and no walks across four innings. He struck out three.

Eflin was activated from the 15-day IL for Wednesday's start and was yanked on 55 pitches. He was expected to be under a pitch count after only being stretched out to 40 pitches during his recovery from a back injury. The 30-year-old had to shake off a little rust, allowing all three hits and both runs in the first inning before retiring nine straight batters to close out the start. While Eflin will likely remain limited for the next few starts, he's worth a look in his next projected start, which is scheduled for Tuesday against the Cubs.

  • Rays' Jonny DeLuca: Sitting versus lefty

DeLuca is not in the lineup for Wednesday's game in Miami.

Southpaw Braxton Garrett is starting for the Marlins, but the right-handed-hitting DeLuca nonetheless finds himself on the bench. It's the first time in six games versus lefties since DeLuca was promoted last month that he hasn't been in the lineup. Randy Arozarena, Josh Lowe and Harold Ramirez will handle outfield duties for the Rays on Wednesday.

  • Rays' Richie Palacios: On bench against lefty again

Palacios is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Marlins, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

The Rays are facing a lefty (Braxton Garrett) for the third straight game, and the lefty-hitting Palacios has been on the bench for each of those contests. Palacios appears to be a strict platoon player for Tampa Bay, with right-handed hitters Harold Ramirez, Jonny DeLuca or Amed Rosario typically replacing him in the lineup when the Rays face left-handed pitchers.

  • Rays' Jose Siri: Not in lineup

Siri is absent from the lineup for Wednesday's game in Miami, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

Siri has driven in eight runs over his last seven contests -- including one in the first game of the series Tuesday -- but he'll begin Wednesday's tilt on the bench. Josh Lowe will patrol center field for the Rays.

  • Rays' Justin Sterner: Moves back to Triple-A

The Rays optioned Sterner to Triple-A Durham on Wednesday.

During his first stint in the big leagues, Sterner made a pair of two-inning relief appearances for Tampa Bay and struck out four while giving up two runs (one earned) on five hits and one walk. The 27-year-old will cede his spot on the 26-man active roster to right-hander Zach Eflin (back), who was reinstated from the 15-day injured list ahead of his start Wednesday in Miami.

  • Rays' Zach Eflin: Activated for Wednesday's start

The Rays reinstated Eflin (back) from the 15-day injured list ahead of his scheduled start Wednesday versus the Marlins in Miami.

Tampa Bay optioned right-hander Justin Sterner to Triple-A Durham to clear the way for Eflin's return to the 26-man active roster. Eflin missed just over the minimum 15 days while recovering from lower-back inflammation, and the Rays signed off on him returning from the IL without a rehab assignment after he completed a 40-pitch, two-inning simulated bullpen session Sunday. According to MLB.com, manager Kevin Cash suggested that Eflin could face some limitations with his workload Wednesday, but the Rays will wait and see how the right-hander fares as the game unfolds before making any decisions on whether to cut his start short.

  • Rays' Zach Eflin: Slated to start Wednesday

Eflin (back) will be activated from the 15-day injured list to start Wednesday's game against the Marlins, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

As expected, Eflin will slot back into the rotation for the series finale in Miami after missing just over the minimum 15 days while recovering from lower-back inflammation. Because Eflin didn't head out on a minor-league rehab assignment while he was on the shelf, manager Kevin Cash acknowledged that the right-hander could face some light restrictions with his workload Wednesday, per MLB.com. Eflin threw a 40-pitch bullpen session consisting of two simulated innings Sunday, so Cash suggested that the Rays would wait and see how Eflin is feeling around the three-inning mark Wednesday before deciding how much longer he'll end up working.

  • Rays' Isaac Paredes: Six-game hitting streak

Paredes went 2-for-5 with two RBI and two runs scored Tuesday against the Marlins.

Paredes delivered a two-RBI single in the fifth inning and came around to score in the same frame. He extended his hitting streak to six games with the performance, driving in five and scoring four runs in that span.

  • Rays' Brandon Lowe: Drives in five vs. Marlins

Lowe went 2-for-4 with a three-run homer, a two-run double and two total runs scored in Tuesday's 9-5 win over Miami.

It was a big night for Lowe in his first start this year against a left-hander -- the second baseman tied the game 3-3 with a three-run homer off Jesus Luzardo in the fourth inning before adding two more RBI with a double in the fifth. The home run was the second of the season for Lowe and his first since March 29 after spending over a month on the IL with an oblique injury. He's now slashing .203/.320/.406 with 13 RBI and eight runs scored across 75 plate appearances on the campaign.

  • Rays' Pete Fairbanks: Up to seven saves

Fairbanks earned the save in Tuesday's 9-5 win over Miami, striking out a pair in a perfect ninth inning.

Phil Maton originally got the call in the ninth with Tampa Bay up by four runs. However, he'd allow the Marlins to load the bases on three straight singles, forcing the Rays to turn to Fairbanks, who proceeded to strike out Bryan De La Cruz and Jake Burger before coaxing a game-ending groundout from Josh Bell. It was an impressive performance from the 30-year-old right-hander, who hasn't allowed an earned run in his last 11 innings. Overall, Fairbanks is 7-for-8 in save chances with a 3.50 ERA, 1.39 WHIP and 21:10 K:BB over 18 innings this season.

  • Rays' Ryan Pepiot: Settles in for fifth win

Pepiot (4-2) earned the win over the Marlins on Tuesday, allowing three runs on six hits over six innings. He struck out eight.

Pepiot got off to an ugly start Tuesday, allowing three runs in the opening frame. However, he'd proceed to blank Miami over his final five frames while allowing just one additional hit while the Rays rallied for a 9-5 victory. The 26-year-old Pepiot now has 15 strikeouts over his last two starts (11.2 innings). His ERA sits at 3.96 on the season with a 0.96 WHIP and 59:16 K:BB across 10 outings (52.1 innings). Pepiot is currently in line for a home matchup with Baltimore early next week in his next start.

  • Rays' Josh Lowe: On bench vs. southpaw

Lowe is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Marlins.

Lowe was reinstated from the 10-day injured list Monday after missing time with an oblique issue, but he's not in the lineup for his first game back since lefty Jesus Luzardo is starting for Miami. Randy Arozarena, Jose Siri and Jonny DeLuca will start across the outfield while Harold Ramirez serves as the designated hitter.

  • Rays' Jose Caballero: Out of Tuesday's lineup

Caballero is not in the lineup for Tuesday's game at Miami.

Caballero started the past four games but will head to the bench Tuesday after he went 4-for-15 with a homer, two RBI, five runs and a stolen base during that stretch. Amed Rosario will take over at shortstop and bat sixth.

  • Rays' Josh Lowe: Activated from injured list

The Rays reinstated Lowe (oblique) from the 10-day injured list Monday.

Tampa Bay is off Monday, but the club went ahead and officially put Lowe back on its active roster ahead of their series against the Marlins, which begins Tuesday. Lowe has been limited to just 14 games this season because of a pair of oblique strains, but he's ready to roll after going 4-for-12 with a triple, three runs and two RBI over three rehab games with Triple-A Durham. He'll likely see most of his playing time in right field for the Rays but could also play some in center.
