SALT LAKE CITY (AP) Chandler Hutchison had a career-high 34 points, Marcus Dickinson scored 10 of his career-best 12 points in the final 12 minutes and Boise State overcame an 11-point second-half deficit to beat Utah 73-68 on Tuesday night in an opening-round game of the NIT.

Zach Haney had five of his seven points, five rebounds, three blocked shots and two steals in the second half for Boise State (20-11), which has won at least 20 games in each of the last five seasons. The Broncos, seeded sixth in their bracket, will play No. 2 seed Illinois in the second round.

Kyle Kuzma's layup with 17:39 to play gave third-seeded Utah (20-12) 47-36 lead, which matched its biggest of the game. Hutchison answered with a 3-pointer that sparked a 7-0 spurt and back-to-back layups by Dickinson trimmed Boise State's deficit to one with 10:35 remaining. A bucket by Kuzma made it 61-56 nearly four minutes later, but Utah missed its next nine, and 14 of its next 15 shots. Hutchison sandwiched a pair of layups around a 3 by Dickinson to give the Broncos their first lead, 63-61, with 4:06 left and spark a 16-1 run that made it 72-61 with 45 seconds left.

Kuzma had 21 points, nine rebounds and three blocks for Utah. David Collette scored 15 and grabbed a career-high 11 boards.
