Twins prospect Toby Gardenhire was promoted to Triple-A Rochester on Sunday. Toby is the son of Twins manager Ron Gardenhire. "I'm happy for him, excited for him, pumped -- that's a huge step," Gardenhire said. "He works very hard and he's a good kid. He can do a lot of things on a baseball field." Gardernhire was drafted by the Twins in the 41st round of the 2005 First-Year Player Draft.
Minnesota finalized their 25-man roster on Sunday and the following players did not make the team: OF Juan Portes, 1B Chris Parmelee, 2B Brian Dinkelman, 3B Brock Peterson, SS Toby Gardenhire, SP Anthony Slama and SP Kyle Waldrop.
The Twins have added shortstop Toby Gardenhire as a non-roster invitee to spring training.
The Twins cut 11 players from camp on Tuesday. SS Trevor Plouffe and SS Steven Tolleson were assigned to Triple-A Rochester along with SP Anthony Swarzak and RP Armando Gabino. 3B Deibinson Romero was sent to Class A Fort Myers, while C Danny Lehmann, 3B Danny Valencia, SS Toby Gardenhire, OF Dustin Martin, RP Rob Delaney and RP Ben Julianel were reassigned to minor-league camp and will be placed on teams later.
Toby Gardenhire, son of the Twins manager and a minor-league utility player, had an RBI single in the seventh inning Thursday in an exhibition game against the Netherlands' World Baseball Classic team. He finished 1-for-1 and also scored a run.
