Asencio was promoted to Triple-A El Paso on Tuesday, Bill Center of Padres.com reports. Asencio hit .252/.271/.350 with one home run and seven RBI through 28 games at the Double-A level and will now move up to the Triple-A level to continue his development.
The Padres have altered their 40-man roster. The team purchased the contracts of Tayron Guerrero, Taylor Lindsey and Alex Dickerson . In order to make room for those adds, the team designated both Blaine Boyer and Yeison Ascensio for assignment.
Padres outfield prospect Yeison Asencio has been red hot since his promotion to Triple-A, clubbing two home runs in his first three games. Asencio, who hit 10 home runs in 117 games at Double-A to open the season, has two in his first 10 at-bats for El Paso. He is 7 for 10 overall with three extra-base hits, three RBI and three runs scored since getting the call. The 24-year-old is hitting .292/.331/.430 overall between Double-A San Antonio and El Paso this season.
The Padres assigned Yeison Asencio, Edinson Rincon and Adys Portillo to minor-league camp Monday.
