Guilmet threw one inning of relief, allowing one hit and striking out one in Triple-A Toledo's season opener against Louisville on Thursday. Guilmet had a poor spring training performance, allowing seven hits, four earned runs and two home runs in 4.1 innings. If the Tigers need a bullpen arm from the minors, they will likely choose Bruce Rondon or Matt Boyd off the Toldeo roster over Guilmet, but if Guilmet continues pitching the way he did Thursday, his name may come up more.
Guilmet signed a minor league contract with the Tigers on Friday that includes an invite to spring training. Guilmet appeared in just five major league games last season as a member of the Rays and Cubs, allowing nine earned runs in just 7.1 innings of work. He'll be given chance to claim a spot in the Tigers' retooled bullpen when spring training gets underway.
The Brewers sent pitcher Preston Guilmet down to Triple-A after Tuesday's game, the team announced. Guilmet produced a 11.05 ERA over 7 1/3 innings this season. With Guilmet at Triple-A, the team recalled pitcher Tyler Cravy, who had a 3.60 ERA over 15 innings of work earlier this season.
The Brewers have announced that they have claimed right-handed reliever Preston Guilmet off waivers from the Dodgers. Guilmet, who has been with three different teams this season, has pitched in three games and compiled a 5.06 ERA.
To make room for the return of outfielder Carl Crawford, the Dodgers optioned right-handed starter Brandon Beachy to Triple-A Oklahoma City while designating reliever Preston Guilmet for assignment. Beachy was 0-1 with a 7.88 ERA in two starts this season, while Guilmet had been claimed off waivers by the Dodgers on July 10, his third team this season.
