    • Luis Mateo's season ends with Tommy John surgery

      Mets pitching prospect Luis Mateo's season is over, after he underwent Tommy John surgery last week, according to ESPN.com. Mateo appeared in four games between Class A St. Lucie and Double-A Binghamton before suffering from elbow inflammation. This operation will likely keep the 23-year-old Mateo out until at least next June, an unfortunate outcome for the organization's No. 4 prospect according to Baseball America. He has a 2.55 ERA in 29 appearances in the minors since his professional career began in 2011.

    • Luis Mateo activated from minor-league DL

      Mets pitching prospect Luis Mateo has been activated from the minor-league disabled list, ESPN New York reports. Mateo, the Mets' No. 4 prospect per Baseball America, has been out since May 14 with elbow inflammation. He has made two starts this season, pitching 6 2/3 scoreless innings with Class A St. Lucie and allowing four runs in three innings for Double-A Binghamton.

      Mets pitching prospect Luis Mateo will be out of action for two weeks with elbow inflammation, according to ESPN.com. Mateo was pulled from his Double-A debut after three-plus innings. Tests appear to show no structural damage in the 23-year-old's elbow, but he will take anti-inflammatory medication while he is sidelined. Mateo is the organization's No. 4 prospect, according to Baseball America. He grades out with the best slider in the organization, and has posted a sterling 2.34 ERA in 146 innings in the minors.

      Mets vice president of player development Paul DePodesta said there's no resolution yet on the extent of the elbow/forearm injury suffered by pitching prospect Luis Mateo, according to ESPN. Mateo had to leave a spot start for Double-A Binghamton Monday after three innings. "He dealt with some soreness in spring training as well and was better after a little rest," DePodesta said. Mateo is considered the Mets' ninth-best prospect by MLB.com.
