Marlins infielder Gil Velazquez has elected free agency, MLB.com reports. Velazquez hit .277/.376/.309 in 74 games for Triple-A New Orleans and received just one at-bat for Miami.
The Marlins outrighted the following players Monday: pitchers Kevin Slowey, Jose Ceda, Steven Ames and Zach Phillips, catcher Koyie Hill, first baseman Joe Mahoney and infielder Gil Velazquez . Each of the players played some portion of the 2013 season with the Marlins, except for Ceda, who continued to recover from Tommy John surgery.
