Dodd is among the top candidates to make a spot start for Atlanta on Tuesday against the Astros, David O'Brien of The Athletic reports. Dodd had a tough start Thursday night for Triple-A Gwinnett, allowing five earned runs across 4.2 innings while allowing six hits and two walks to go along with five strikeouts. However, he pitched well in two prior outings with Gwinnett, putting himself in the conversation for a promotion. His start Thursday notably puts him on turn with the vacated spot in the big-league rotation. Darius Vines and Bryce Elder are also vying for the job, and they are scheduled to pitch Friday and Saturday, respectively, for Gwinnett. If either is scratched, it could be an indication that they will get the call in place of Dodd.... See More ... See Less

Braves' Dylan Dodd: Headed to Triple-A
Dodd was optioned to Triple-A Gwinnett by Atlanta on Monday. Dodd is a good bet to make some starts with the big club this season, but as things stand right now there's no room for him. The left-hander held a 7.60 ERA over seven starts with Atlanta last season.... See More ... See Less -
Braves' Dylan Dodd: Hit hard in finale
Dodd (2-2) allowed five runs on nine hits and a walk while striking out one over six innings Sunday against the Nationals. He did not factor into the decision. Dodd gave up a four-spot to the Nationals in the first inning and then allowed another run to score in the second. He was able to settle in the rest of the way, allowing three hits over the next four innings and exiting with the game tied at 5-5. It was just the second time he's lasted six innings this year and it was the fourth straight start he allowed at least four runs. The 25-year-old finishes the year with a 7.60 ERA, 1.89 WHIP and 15:12 K:BB over 34.1 innings (seven starts) and should be expected to begin next season at Triple-A Gwinnett.... See More ... Braves' Dylan Dodd: Promoted for Sunday's start
Dodd was recalled from Triple-A Gwinnett to start Sunday's regular-season finale against the Nationals, Justin Toscano of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports. The 25-year-old was previously announced as Atlanta's probable starter for Sunday, and he's now officially been added to the MLB roster. Dodd has a 7.62 ERA, 1.94 WHIP and 14:11 K:BB across 28.1 innings (six starts) this season, but he'll receive a chance to end the campaign on a positive note with game No. 162 being meaningless for Atlanta.... Braves' Dylan Dodd: Sent to Triple-A
Dodd was optioned to Triple-A Gwinnett on Sunday. Dodd made his first big-league start since June versus the Pirates on Saturday, but he'll return to Triple-A after he surrendered four runs on seven hits and three walks over four innings. The left-hander has a 7.62 ERA and 14:11 K:BB across 28.1 frames in the majors this season, so he likely won't be atop the list of candidates should Atlanta need another spot starter down the stretch.... Braves' Dylan Dodd: Struggles versus Pittsburgh
Dodd (2-2) allowed four runs on seven hits and three walks while striking out two over four-plus innings to take the loss Saturday versus the Pirates. Dodd's first major-league outing since June 14 didn't go very well. He ran into trouble in the third inning when the Pirates rallied for three runs, and more issues emerged before he got a quick hook in the fifth. The rookie left-hander has a 7.62 ERA, 1.94 WHIP and 14:11 K:BB over 28.1 innings across six starts. Darius Vines allowed one run over three innings in a relief assignment Saturday, so it's unclear if Dodd will be in the mix for any starts beyond this one, especially if Kyle Wright (shoulder) is activated next week.... Braves' Dylan Dodd: Will get start Saturday
Dodd will be called up from Triple-A Gwinnett to start Saturday in Atlanta against the Pirates, Mark Bowman of MLB.com reports. Dodd made the Opening Day rotation, but he has posted an ugly 7.40 ERA in five major-league starts (24.1 innings) and a 6.55 ERA in 69.1 innings at Triple-A. The 25-year-old is a risky fantasy streaming option, even versus a Pittsburgh offense that ranks 27th in wRC+ against southpaws.... See More ... See Less -
Braves' Dylan Dodd: Starts up rehab assignment
Dodd (undisclosed) began a rehab assignment last Thursday with Atlanta's rookie-level Florida Complex League affiliate, striking out four over 3.1 perfect innings. Dodd's appearance in the FCL was his first at any level since June 22. He landed on Triple-A Gwinnett's 7-day injured list shortly after that outing, but based on his performance Thursday, Dodd likely isn't far away from rejoining Gwinnett's rotation. Dodd previously made five starts with Atlanta earlier in the season, but even once healthy, the lefty could find himself behind all of AJ Smith-Shawver, Michael Soroka, Allan Winans and Jared Shuster for a promotion if the big club requires another starter at any point.... Braves' Dylan Dodd: Back in minors
Atlanta returned Dodd to Triple-A Gwinnett following Wednesday's doubleheader with the Tigers. Dodd was called up Wednesday to start Game 2 and ended up allowing all five of Detroit's runs across four innings in a 6-5 Atlanta win. The 25-year-old lefty now holds a 7.40 ERA in the majors across 24.1 innings and will return to Triple-A where his numbers aren't much better (7.07 ERA and 1.73 WHIP through 35.2 innings).... Braves' Dylan Dodd: Optioned to Triple-A
Dodd was sent down to Triple-A Gwinnett on Saturday. Dodd will return to Gwinnett after being recalled for Thursday's start, during which he allowed four runs on seven hits and a walk while striking out three batters over five innings in a no-decision versus the Phillies. The decision to return the left-hander to Triple-A suggests that Michael Soroka is set to make his season debut with Atlanta, though nothing official has been announced.... See More ... See Less -
Braves' Dylan Dodd: Recalled for Thursday's start
Atlanta recalled Dodd from Triple-A Gwinnett ahead of his scheduled start Thursday against the Phillies. Dodd will get another opportunity to work out of Atlanta's rotation despite struggling to a 6.46 ERA through his first 15.1 major-league innings (three starts) this season. He's also been roughed up at times in Triple-A. The 24-year-old southpaw seems like an iffy fantasy streaming bet, even on Thursday's lighter slate.... See More ... See Less -
Braves' Dylan Dodd: Promotion imminent
Dodd will be recalled from Triple-A Gwinnett on Thursday to start against the Phillies in Atlanta later that day, Justin Toscano of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports. Dodd holds a 6.46 ERA and 1.83 WHIP in the majors this season through 15.1 innings across three starts. His Triple-A numbers are similar, but he is coming off a four-inning shutout performance in his last minor-league start. Dodd is still in the process of proving he belongs in the big leagues.... Braves' Dylan Dodd: Sent to Triple-A
Atlanta optioned Dodd to Triple-A Gwinnett on Friday. Dodd pitched well in a spot start Thursday against the Marlins, yielding three runs over six innings, but he'll head back to the minors for the time being. Whether he'll be needed again by the big club soon could depend on how much time Kyle Wright (shoulder) misses.... See More ... See Less -
Braves' Dylan Dodd: Steady in win
Dodd (2-1) allowed three runs on eight hits and three walks while striking out one over six innings, earning the win over Miami on Thursday. Jorge Soler accounted for the damage on Dodd's line, tagging him for a two-run home run in the first inning and an RBI double in the fifth. It was a solid outing for Dodd, who replaced Kyle Wright (shoulder) in Atlanta's rotation for this game. He owns a 6.46 ERA, 1.83 WHIP and 7:4 K:BB over 15.1 innings across three starts this season, but it was confirmed that he was only used for a spot start Thursday, per Justin Toscano of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. Dodd will likely be a candidate to pitch May 16 against the Rangers, the next time Atlanta will need a fifth starter.... See More ... See Less -
Braves' Dylan Dodd: Looks good again Friday
Dodd was charged with three runs on eight hits and two walks over five-plus innings in Friday's Grapefruit League game against the Red Sox. He struck out five. The southpaw performed better than his final line indicated -- two of the runs came on a wind-aided Justin Turner home run, and the third crossed the plate in the sixth inning after he'd left the game. Dodd has likely made his final start of the spring, ending camp with a dazzling 2.00 ERA and 20:4 K:BB through 18 Grapefruit League innings, and he remains neck and neck with Jared Shuster for Atlanta's fifth starter spot. If Kyle Wright's first start of the season gets delayed -- the right-hander got a very late start to his spring due to shoulder issues -- the battle for the open rotation spot could extend into the regular season.... See More ... See Less -
Braves' Dylan Dodd: Another strong outing
Dodd gave up a run on two hits and two walks over 4.2 innings in Saturday's Grapefruit League game against the Phillies. He struck out four. Facing a Philly lineup lacking its big names, Dodd served up a leadoff solo shot to Brandon Marsh before shaking it off and shutting down the opposition the rest of the way. It was the first run the 24-year-old southpaw has given up this spring, and his 0.69 ERA leads all qualifiers. Unfortunately for Dodd, No. 2 on that list is his competition for Atlanta's fifth starter spot, Jared Shuster (0.71 ERA). The duo's spring numbers are nearly identical across the board -- Dodd has a 15:2 K:BB through 13 innings, while Shuster has a 16:2 mark in 12.2 frames -- and with neither guy currently on the 40-man roster, the coaching staff has a very tough decision ahead of it.... Braves' Dylan Dodd: Battling for final rotation spot
Dodd is one of the finalists to be the fifth starter for Atlanta to open the 2023 season, David O'Brien of The Athletic reports. Dodd appears to be one of the final two options for Atlanta to open as the fifth starter after Atlanta sent down both Ian Anderson and Bryce Elder. The left-hander has impressed this spring with an 11:0 K:BB and 0.00 ERA over 8.1 innings in three appearances, and registered a 3.36 ERA over 142 innings at three different levels in 2022. Dodd may not win the job over Jared Shuster to open the year, but there's every reason to believe he'll make starts for Atlanta before 2023 comes to a conclusion if he doesn't.... See More ... Braves' Dylan Dodd: Shines in spring debut
Dodd struck out three batters over two perfect innings in Saturday's Grapefruit League game against the Red Sox. The 24-year-old southpaw isn't yet a big name in prospect circles after being a third-round pick in the 2021 MLB Draft, but Dodd could gain a lot of helium if he keeps pitching like this. He made one start for Triple-A Gwinnett at the end of last season and figures to begin 2023 there, and if the velocity gains he showed last year stick, his potentially plus changeup and strong control could mark him as something more than just a long reliever or swingman in the majors....
